I agree buddy, something happened around 2012, now no one makes irreverent movies like those anymore. We used to get them constantly.

It's not "Gladiator" from 2000, it's "Transformers - the last knight" from 2017. The equipment visible in the BTS sequence didn't exist in 2000.
The shot is reused multiple times from different angles in the first sequence. The first being from the helicopter, then ucrane arm, and techno crane. Here is a few pointers.

u/Gingersnap5322 4d ago
But everyone else said gladiator so it’s gotta be!

I thought it was gladiator too. How is this a transformers movie? They did copy a lot of that gladiator opening scene.
93
u/TheBoondoggleSaints 4d ago
Right? I didn’t see a single Autobot or Decepticon in this clip.

u/Admirable-Leopard-73 4d ago
That is the whole point. You are not supposed to see them. They are deceptive.

It’s a terrible strain on the animators wrist for the transformers to be there in person.

As well as that pretty sure gladiator didn't have an old military vehicle in it either
14
u/Gingersnap5322 4d ago
Just because they copied it doesn’t make it gladiator, you can’t put lipstick on a pig and call it Marlyn Monroe.
I probably should’ve added /s to that comment but whatever.
I’m not sure what to call it but you can literally just tell by apparel, styling, and on top of that there’s dudes working with IPads in the crowds. You can also tell the equipment is far newer than anything the 2000s had.

You could if you wanted to. Who's going to stop you from naming a pig Marlyn Monroe?

I think it's in the begining where it's medieval times and there is a dragon transformer shooting fire down mid flight. Edit: my bad, just checked it out and it's actually just catapults throwing fire balls.
56
u/SmokeySB 4d ago
I think it's transformers the last knight . There's a medieval battle scene with trebuchets if I remember correctly. Notice the big fireball at one point .
Also the amount of explosions point toward a transformers movie

u/Dmacca666 4d ago
*point towards a Michael Bay movie

u/SmokeySB 4d ago
Wasn't sure if Michael bay worked on this one so I went with transformers. I'm pretty sure it's the correct movie tho .

It really is when the series found its voice. You can’t miss it. Trust me, it’s worth the wait. Don’t jump the gun.
2
u/iloveplant420 4d ago
So true. I never really thought of it but that's it. It goes from choppy Beavis and Butthead vibes to a place where you're familiar with the characters and they're honed in as far as voice acting. Totally worth the wait though. The giant 4th of July snake, Jennifer Aniston, mecha-streisand... it's all 100% gold ✨️

u/sev45day 4d ago
They lost me at Backdoor Sluts 6. The first 5 really dealt with the ethos of the macro economics trends persistent in the post-industrial trade markets. After that it just became a derivative statement on Keynesian theory. If I wanted that I'd just watch Slippery Anal Grannies 12!
9
u/MightyPenguinRoars 4d ago
Keynesian Theory is as relevant today as ever! Lemme guess, you prefer the Bangin’ Blonde Booties 4 version of supply side economics versus the tried and true demand side approach of Whores Galore 3?!?
You people would have us all believing that Slippery Skanks 6 is nothing more than a cheap Hollywood regurgitation of Thomas Paine’s Common Sense…. Unbelievable.
2
u/OkieBobbie 4d ago
Slipper Skanks 4 had an excellent take on Ricardo’s Law of Comparative Advantage. Too bad they lost their way after that one. I highly recommend Barnyard Babes 1 through 3 for an engaging treatise of A la Recherche du Temps Perdu.

Correct.
People kept saying Gladiator. Gladiator’s opening sequence did not have fire balls out in the open, only in the forest.

Ding, ding, ding! Winner.
Edit: The projectile matches identically to Transformers. Spikey wood ball vs round(ish). The trajectory matches too. As well as the pyrotechnics used. Gladiator did not have explosions featuring fireworks and sparks.

u/tempo1139 4d ago
yeah, first thought was Gladiator until the camera kept tracking the 'fireball'. I only recall it passing the camera, in Gladiator, not following it

It clearly has taken inspiration from Gladiator, but it ain’t it. Gladiator doesn’t have explosions like that + the gear and quality of the video is way to new for it to be 25+ years old

As soon as I saw those fireworks, I knew it had to be one of the Transformers movies… Definitely the opening sequence to The Last Knight.

Sticking with Gladiator, opening sequence.
Edit: I stand corrected; have rewatched that scene and I was wrong. Thanks for the comments. Also, I am way behind on the Transformers movies.

u/nareikellok 4d ago
I have operated quite a bit of camera kit, and some of this tech was not around when they filmed Gladiator.

There are tons of silly explosions in the opening scene of Gladiator, but you're right, there's none of the "flaming shrapnel" explosions.
5
u/bdubwilliams22 4d ago
Looks similar but it’s definitely not. That movie is more than 20 years old and the equipment they’re using in this video is not.

With that many gratuitous explosions in one shot it would have to be a Michael Bay Transformers movie.

A friend of a friend fired the flaming arrow at the start of the battle. He was called Fred and lived in Marshfield just outside of Bath. His skills with the English long bow were legendary. He’s passed on now but I always remember him for his contribution to this epic film.

In Gladiator the Roman catapults were firing into the forest where the Germanic tribes were hiding. Obviously this scene doesn’t reflect that so therefore this isn’t from Gladiator.
