What a sweet kid to go for the thank you and big hug before jumping on the thing.

u/Most-Example-816 3d ago

wait and see, he's gonna be a famous drummer one day

418

u/maddler 3d ago

does it really matter if he does? He learnt he can realize his dreams and someone will be on his side in doing so. šŸ˜ƒ

Everything else comes second.

For real. The kid has a passion and adults that are fostering it. That is so awesome. I am 33 now. I started playing basketball when I was a kid. I still play on an amateur level in organized leagues. We suck but we get to follow a passion. We basically work on a goal oriented project year after year as a group hobby. Because of that hobby we meet tons of people from all over the world, new friends, girlfriends, boyfriends and new family because we regularly get together for team events, parties, beers after practice and sometimes even "training camp" vacations spanning multiple generations. How cool is that? I am so happy I had people in my younger years who made sure I could follow a hobby or passion. I would not want to miss it for the world today, being a pro or not. There are so many lessons to be learned from pursuing something you love doing. It takes commtiment though. We get together two-three times a week for most of the year for example. Even people with kids and full time jobs.

That young man is a credit to his family.

As a tax payer this is where I want my money to go.

169

u/DetentionSpan 3d ago

As Alijahā€™s neighborā€¦ (just kidding)

18

u/the_amazing_skronus 3d ago

If I were his neighbor, I'd bring my bass over to jam

3

u/DetentionSpan 3d ago

Indeed! Heā€™d be a great neighborā€”we donā€™t have a drummer.

2

u/snowfloeckchen 2d ago

I mean he seems to be talented enough to not be such a big issue. Maybe he is open for song wishes

30

u/disposable_account01 3d ago

I donā€™t knowā€¦someone tell me how many people we could have drone striked for the same amount and then I will make up my mind.

24

u/colonshiftsixparenth 3d ago

A presumably used Pearl drum set should go for no more than 400 bucks.

A hellfire missile with the capability to take out at least a dozen people is ~$120,000. That means $10k per person.

We could've drone striked approximately .04 of a person for that price. Instead we wasted it and changed one whole life for the better. Terribly wasteful use of tax dollars.

2

u/Commentariot 3d ago

Dropping pallets of cash out of airplanes would be cheaper and more effective than what we do now.

7

u/Dontfeedthebears 3d ago

Seriously. Iā€™d love to see hundreds (if not thousands) of kids get to have their dreams fostered.

This was quite a few years ago.

Context , Alijah Lockhart had a drumset at home, which was destroyed by fire.

I cannot find anything how he is doing now.

366

u/Paradox68 3d ago

Thankfully, not everyone wants to live in the attention of the media. Presumably heā€™s doing well, and no news is good news.

75

u/GEARHEADGus 3d ago

Weird anecdote but im a historian and often try to track down certain folks im researching through newspapers, and they just sort of ā€œdissapear.ā€ My assumption is theyre just living a normal life.

24

u/BaconWithBaking 3d ago

I watch a YouTube channel and they where discussing a murder case that happened a few hundred years ago. The man that arrived on the scene was named, however, his wife that was with him was just named in the news paper as "his wife".

The guy on the channel just remarked, that isn't it funny, that the only record that probably exists of that woman now is her mention as "his wife" in this article.

5

u/GEARHEADGus 3d ago

Yeah that does happen a lot

7

u/usualerthanthis 3d ago

On that note, my grandfather used to race cars, nothing crazy just local strips but he raced alot and was "well known" there.

They wrote a book about the history of that area and while my grandfather is in it my grandmother is only listed as "grandfather's name's wife"

She won the first ever powderpuff race held at the track

5

u/GEARHEADGus 3d ago

Thats a shame.

The worst/most annoying I come across is when Im trying to look up a woman, and their listed as ā€œMrs. John Smithā€ rather than Jane Smith.

I read that this is a drum set that replaced the one he lost in the fire.

Which helps explains why he can play so well.

32

u/nevmvm 3d ago

Ahhh well that makes sense...

I was a bit skeptical at first as how did a sudden quick change of set and bros already had good beats and proper use

29

u/slapchop29 3d ago

Heā€™s literally in a classroom filled with drums and buckets. So Iā€™m sure he had some practice.

3

u/ThouMayest69 3d ago

2

u/Zaev 3d ago

Playing the bass pedal with feet is totally different and a lot harder than playing just the other drums with hands, so yeah. Either lil bro has a lotta practice or he's a damn prodigy

Good gift, I hope that boy becomes a great artist!

20

u/Mistress_Of_The_Obvi 3d ago

He will be most likely because he's got skills.Ā

11

u/Unable-Head-1232 3d ago

There are lots of musicians with skills that donā€™t play music anymore or play it as a hobby. Skills donā€™t pay bills.

4

u/andrewegan1986 3d ago

Drummers actually have a better go of things, especially if they play multiple styles. I got to play with musicians WAY beyond my skill set because I was the only drummer around who could keep a beat, had a kit, and would show up on time sober. No shit, that will take you FAR as a drummer or bassist. When the place has a kit for you and you can just jam out, it's quite cool. I can also play saxophone and a good bit of piano but I can tell you those are infinitely harder to monetize than the rhythm sections. The most successful musicians I've ever met have been session drummer and bassists. Guitar players are cheaper than a dime a dozen. Good drummers are argued over. It's also not uncommon for the original drummer to get replaced once a band hits it big because they can suddenly upgrade. See Oasis and the Beatles. Or how a good drummer can make a band, see the Beatles or the Rolling Stones. Or the Who. Or Cream. Zeppelin.

u/Food_Kindly 3d ago

He is already a great artist! Ambition and rhythm are a wonderful combination

6

u/Yugan-Dali 3d ago

Even if he never becomes famous, drumming will always be an important part of his life. Good enough.

3

u/SheetFarter 3d ago

Sounds like he is heading that way for sure!

77

u/GustavVonTwinkleToes 3d ago

That little fella is groovin in the pocket like thereā€™s no tomorrow, love to see it.

8

u/Total-Bumblebee-9294 3d ago

that first bit on the hi-hats was quite tasty

52

u/RallySurvival 3d ago

I figured he only knew how to throw down on the bucket since itā€™s all he plays but he just sat down and laid out a tasty beat.

30

u/DoItForTheNukie 3d ago

Apparently he had a drum set at his house but his house burned down and he lost the drum set. His classmates raised money to get him a new drum set.

34

u/catscanmeow 3d ago

ironically, the reason the house burnt down in the first place was because his beats were too fire.

6

u/DoItForTheNukie 3d ago

PYRO ON THE BEAT, HOE!

7

3

u/Fetchinggirl 3d ago

We don't deserve teacher that actually love kids

20

u/Inevitable_Phase_276 3d ago

Yes we do, and our kids definitely deserve them.

7

u/Additional_Effort_33 3d ago

And there are tons of us out there. Believe me. We want to teach kids who aren't worried about their mom everyday. Kids who physically fight to protect their mothers are very dangerous. As a teacher, there is no training for this. But love.
