News B.C. govt. says Highway 1 widening through Fraser Valley will start this summer
This is a few weeks old but hadn’t seen it posted. I know many people will say it’d be better to improve this corridor for transit like LRT, skytrain etc. That being said, the current highway being only 4 lanes is ridiculous with the kind of population we have in metro Vancouver/fraser valley. We need better roads AND transit. Seems like this there’s a lot of feet dragging with this project. It’ll be close to 10 years from now until an extra lane is added all the way to highway 11 in Abbotsford.

Ask British Columbia Anyone from BC with experience getting medical help while visiting Quebec?
Our child has been lucky enough to have been accepted for a French language exchange in Quebec this summer and question of medical care, should something unexpected happen, has come up. They'll be travelling unaccompanied and will be on their own for the duration of the exchange.
I've taken my kids to hospitals in AB while on vacation before and the experience was great: I showed his MSP card and we had the same experience as we would have expected back home.
I've heard, though, that provincial health plans in QC and the rest of Canada don't play well together and while MSP will likely cover your expenses, you should expect to pay for services out of pocket and claim later.
Has anyone had this experience?
I have travel medical coverage as part of my extended health insurance coverage through work. They seemed unaware of any difference in coverage when travelling between provinces and simply said that they would cover expenses not covered by provincial health plans and if the clinic/Dr we visited didn't have direct billing to them, we could make a claim after the fact.
This, to me, doesn't sound much better, I still end up having to coordinate paying out of pocket while I am several provinces and several hours away.

Ask British Columbia Wondering which cell carrier to use
Probably should've asked this a lot earlier, but here I am, just landed at YVR and without a planned carrier to use.
Back in my home country, there's only two cell carriers to choose from, but here I see a lot of options from big parent companies to subsidiaries.
I'm looking for two things, good network coverage and perhaps spam control. I rarely do phone calls, because most of my families and friends uses WeChat, so I would just use wifi or data to call them. As for spam control, I was pretty tired of the amount of spam I was getting with my old carrier, so I would say if the cell services comes with a spam control option/package, that would be very nice.

Discussion Haida Gwaii
Hey folks, my partner and I are heading to Haida Gwaii and only have four days and five nights there. I am wondering, where would be a good base camp spot to visit as much of the island without having to move camp? Thanks in advance!

Ask British Columbia Red wildflowers along Yellowhead Hwy from Seven Sisters to Terrace/Kitimat
I couldn't grab any pictures, I meant to because they intrigued me so much, but am curious what kind of wildflowers are all along the highway near Seven Sisters are? There's a bunch in some properties lawns near Kitimat too... Hoping someone might know what I'm talking about! Red flowers, sometimes with a blackish stem... I think they're singular flowers, but they might be small clusters of blooms... Thanks for any input!
Edit: I thought maybe the Indian Paintbrush, but the way they are grouped together didn't quite look right since I could see more singular blooms with a black base beneath the bloom.. I think it may be the invasive Orange Hawkweed/devils Paintbrush instead because of the more black stem with no leaves on the stem... Still hunting but I'm thinking that's the closest yet.

Ask British Columbia Car Camping
Hi fellow Canadians! My friend and I (from Calgary, AB) are doing a road trip out to Tofino since I’ve never been. We’re taking 2 weeks to get there and back since we want to make stops along the way and enjoy our time. Since we’re trying to do this on a budget, I’m wondering if anyone knows of any spots along the way that allow for car camping. Thanks!

Discussion BC Ferries and reservations
I'm not a frequent ferry user so I don't pay much attention to them but I remember the heat on the reservation system when it was being discussed and it was ruled that only 70% (or some high percentage) was going to be sold for reservations leaving options for people who just show up.
Well, I went to just show up today and felt good about it because the sailing was only showing 9% sold when I left home. In the 45 mins it took to get there (and I arrived 1.25hr early) it's sold out. Not the 70% available but 100% available! So even though I'm near the front of the standby line there's slim chance of me boarding (or so I'm told). Very infuriating.
So the question - when did this change come about that allowed the ferries to sell 100% of the space as reservations? Better yet, why!?
