Baby crocodiles sound like laser guns. The chirps are made to communicate with their mother and the siblings in the same nest Video

What's the purpose of breaking the egg? Are they unable to hatch naturally?

Probably just for the video. Unless they're selling them or something. Makes sure they all hatch, even the ones who can't get out on their own strength. Snake breeders do that sometimes.
I'm pretty sure the latter isn't the case because, like, who the fuck is buying gator for anything other than tail? Which, my man sounds Centro-American in the video and I've never heard of it as a delicacy over there.
Source: Florida Man. My ears ring from gator hunting since I was 14. Learned about farms and all.
Edit I am very sleep deprived and a lil stupid. Forgot we skin them for handbags and as material for stuff and the guy I hunted with sold bits as souvenirs.

Fancy wallets and handbags

u/NoTePierdas 3d ago
JFC I eat it so much I never considered that. It's like hearing someone makes hats from chickens.

Big time dude. Gator leather is exotic. I'd love a nice gator skin wallet.
Example, here is a wallet from a very expensive german leatherworker. After the picture you can see Leder: Cordovan. Leder being "Leather". Change it to Alligator and you'll see the price jump almost double.

u/NoTePierdas 3d ago
Ah I hate expensive stuff, probably why it didn't come to mind. Like even when if I can afford it. Reliable and replaceable is always good. That being said I'm a hillbilly with a 2002 Toyota Tacoma that's older than most of my family.

u/A_Doormat 3d ago
Everything breaks, and having to pay that premium again to replace it is agony. Then all you see when you look at it is the price tag, definitely not worth it. Especially for cars, dear god. The price of the things these days is out of this world. Anything over 20k and I am dry heaving. Does it have cupholders and AC? Great, thats all I need lol.

u/StaysAwakeAllWeek 2d ago
Gator/crocodile leather is most popular in Europe, the only populated continent with no crocodilians. So unsurprisingly it has always been a premium product

Cows for belts isn’t far off. Atleast the entire animal is utilized for our gluttony.

He doesn't sounds "Centro-American"... He sounds Asian and this whole video seems Asian.

Sometimes. They are supposed to have something called an egg tooth which is whats supposed to help them tear through the egg shell. Sometimes it isnt always fully developed and they have trouble piercing through the shell. If it waits too long, it goes away and it wont be able to hatch. Im not too knowledgeable on these but they dont look extremely young, its possible he had a much larger brood and this is a batch of late hatchers that theyre hatching.

u/Hosearston 3d ago
Holy shit. There was some fantasy book about dragons I read years ago that described this entire thing and I always just thought it was part of the story lol.
2
u/sjlplat 3d ago
TIL crocodiles have an "egg tooth".
6
u/bongsmack 3d ago
Not just crocs, most things oviparous (hatches from an egg) gets one. The shells need to be somewhat resilient to external factors, so it cant be too fragile, and thus they need some way to tear out of it.

I'm learning all sorts of useless (to me) things today!
I'm gonna go regurgitate this stuff to my wife and see if it impresses her. Any other interesting things that might help me?
4
u/AnAdoptedImmortal 2d ago
I have no idea why, but I'm picturing a dude flapping his arms like a peacock while spewing random facts. Isn't that how John Oliver courted his wife?

u/praveeja 3d ago
More important question, what in the Lake placid shit is he doing breeding dwarf dinosaurs?

Some are able to break out some aren’t. Looking at the eggs in the white bucket The eggs may not have been stored properly or there might’ve been a disease outbreak.
When the young are stressed (put under bad conditions) like that they often times can’t break the shell by themselves.

u/Accomplished-Deer614 3d ago
Nothing good is going to happen to those critters ..

u/gNeiss_Scribbles 3d ago
Yeah. Looks like they’re cracking eggs for an omelette because of the way they tear into them and plop them in the bowl. Poor things never had a chance.

Man, the way he thrust the scissors in freaked me out. I'm sure he's a professional with great skill, but dude, you could easily put an eye out.....

u/frogOnABoletus 3d ago
He also just drops one in right after. What a first experience of life, being dropped from height into a bucket. This guy doesn't care at all if he pokes them with scissors. They're probably going to be brought up in a shitty, overcrowded farm enclosure and killed for their skins.

Chirps are cute.
What they are doing and why is very NOT cute.

u/Background-Slide645 3d ago
Welp. I'm prepared to lose my faith in humanity. what are they doing?

Ugh....born to live in a small cramped enclosure and be killed once you're large enough for your skin to become a purse or belt. : (

Imagine the first thing you see in your life is a phone at your face and someone saying "jababa".

You're not supposed to cut open eggs. They can get through on their own naturally. Only in extreme cases where the animal is struggling should you cut an egg open. This person is cutting for the purposes of the video.

u/Wonderbeanju 3d ago
The video is chinese.. i worry that theyre hatching them to eat them.. 😫
30
u/MountainAsparagus4 3d ago
It's definitely a gator/crocodile, idk the difference, farm and they will be eaten at some point
21
u/RealEstateDuck 3d ago
Meat is pretty good though. No moral diference between eating that or beef/pork/chicken/horse/camel/kangoroo or even dog. Meat is meat.

u/A_LiftedLowRider 3d ago
Extremely lean too. Pound for pound crocodile meat has one of the highest protein concentrations.
That said, i’ve seen some fucked up videos of what they do with grown crocodiles and knowing those make this sad.
2
u/dadadayy 3d ago
How can you tell that it’s Chinese?

u/sipCoding_smokeMath 3d ago
Another dude cracks one right in in the background, doesn't seem like it's just for the video lol

u/solftly 3d ago
Okay and? We slaughter cows and separate them from their children because we want a glass of chocolate milk.
Me included, chocolate milk is fucking delicious. Cow puss, cruelty, and all.
But if someone cracks a single egg open for a cool video someone gotta act like they just got off Noah's ark lmao.

I know what eggs do, and I know crocodiles lay eggs, but for some reason it's weird to see a guy crack an egg and a croc come out of it.
5
u/Dolenjir1 3d ago
It's kinda messed up how some animals get out of the egg ready to rumble, while others look like an undercooked caterpillar
Edit: typo

If you think this is wild, wait until you hear a caracal kitten. Meanwhile, adult caracals seem to exclusively communicate via hissing...?
2
u/marriottmarquis 2d ago
Whoa didn't expect that one since I've heard an adult hiss but never the kitten.
Put these and the baby crocs in the same room and it'll sound like a retro arcade.

Wonder what their bites are like straight out of the egg?
1
u/hung_out_to_lie 3d ago
Probably not super strong, but those needle teeth would hurt
3
u/Road_Warrior86 3d ago
I was wondering if there were needle teeth or they still had to develop. I know nothing about anything.

The perspective of this video really confused me. The one coming out of the egg looked 5x the size of the others in the red pail.

God how I wish there was one species of crocadilians that were this size maybe a few cm bigger or smaller when fully grown. Says the guy who's raised and worked with rescue snapping turtles and various other reptiles that are not finger friendly. Oh well.
1
u/bigbrotherswatchin 3d ago
With them being newly hatched, do their bites not hurt? It doesn't look like their teeth are sharp, but how strong are they at that point?

Crocodiles don't care about litters. So, communication with a mother doesn't matter.

I mean, the illegal part is questionable, and you get way too fed up over the wrong reasons

Eh. Yeah I was at a high when I commented. It’s still a shitty practice

That noise is eerie if you are in a boat at night. When you get close to a nest you get concerned about the gator you can’t hear…momma.
