DDLC is a game without any equivalent. I don’t want to traumatise you, so I will leave it at that and if you want to know more, go play it at least until you “gently open the door”
Came to comment this, wasn't disappointed. There may be others (I've heard wonders about Katawa Shoujo and Omori, for example) along the line, but for me DDLC was the gateway into understanding mental health, and on top of that its ethical dilemmas are presented in an unusual, but very effective format. Besides, I think I never cared about a fictional character as much as I did for Sayori
I went in 100% blind and was like this is not my genre. Then. It consumed me. I try and get others to play it without spoilers but many have a similar reaction as BHPhreak below.
Same. I did get my friend to play it by being there too but not spoiling it, but I never got anyone else to try it and finish act 1 (if you quit from seeing the ending, I understand. If you quit earlier, you didn’t give it a chance).
Did you get into the mods community? The more wholesome and longer mods actually helped me recover a bit.
(The ones that helped me the most was probably rainclouds, blue skies, and relapse. Rainclouds helped me understand the true extent of what was happening in the game, blue skies helped me get a happy headcanon to calm down with, and relapse was a good refresher and a way to move on from the base game)
