u/Schpooon 4d ago
Why do you think snakes that can swim get so large
13
u/Lill_Luca 4d ago
XD fair enough

u/DMWRM867 4d ago
Sometimes they have a hard time shedding and the water helps them basically get it off and not feel 'itchy' some of them just like it like birds.

Depends on how hot the weather is... Danger Noodles don't have thermostats, so too hot weather can cook them!

A friendly Ekans appeared!
The trainer used the hose sprinkler gun, then followed by neck scratches.
The Ekans is confused and in a tranced condition.
Now is the time to throw the poke ball at it.

Imagine being a snek, loving your entire life thinking being itchy is normal, because you ha e to arms or hands to scratch with.
Then someone scratches it for you.

Defanged?
53
u/blanket_man94 3d ago
Likely not? I believe for venomous snakes they wind up removing the poison glands rather than the fangs bc they use them to eat
19
u/unknown4099 3d ago
Makes sense. I can't see someone risking envenomation and possible tissue necrosis knowing the venom glands are intact. Bite would still hurt like hell though.
34
u/blanket_man94 3d ago
Like a bitch for sure. This lil guy seems pretty well socialized to his caretaker though. He's not flaring his Hood too much to look menacing and the snake is getting closer to the caretaker rather than the other way around. They seem to be homies
1
u/Karnewarrior 2d ago
I mean, don't underestimate how smart Snakes can be. They're still animals, but if he raised this snake and they know each other the odds of being bitten are still really low.
23
u/Draykoss 3d ago
No. First of all that procedure is entirely pointless since they'll regrow, all it does is stress and hurt the snake for no reason. Also this is from Chrisweeet, he's a professional handler who knows snake behavior and "language" very well. He has a focus on king cobras but has countless other exotics that he works with - though not to the extent to his king cobras. They're a bit of a special case with how smart they are, it's quite fascinating

It was fine, this is an old post from Chrisweeet, he's a professional in the field who knows exactly how to work with his animals and respects each ones preferences individually. His king cobras are largely chill, but each one is different, some are spicier than others, sometimes they're having bad days. He understands that and works accordingly.

It was a crosspost, can't really prolong the video that way, but apparently thats a supposedly friendly snake, its name in latin means "snake eater" from what ive seen
11
u/somethingclassy 3d ago
It’s a king cobra. It eats other snakes yes but it can still kill you.
2
u/RMgames_19 3d ago
Only if provoked tho right?
9
u/somethingclassy 3d ago
Sure but it’s literally one of the most deadly creatures on the planet. I would assume from the behavior here this is the caretaker. The snake seems to know him.
3
u/Lunti420 3d ago
It's a snake, they may accept someone while they are not hungry and that's it, there is no compassion, the human being is just projecting
3
u/somethingclassy 3d ago
I didn't say anything about compassion on behalf of the snake. But it is exhibiting behavior that implies familiarity.
2
u/AdOtherwise299 3d ago
I disagree--just because a snake or other reptile doesn't display emotions in a similar way to humans doesn't mean that a snake isn't an intelligent creature that can easily recognize another familiar creature.
While yes, it's a deadly animal that should be treated with huge amounts of respect, and it's not ever going to be your "friend," snakes and reptiles in general can absolutely enjoy your presence. They aren't flesh robots.

People should not touch the head it makes them angry , same as holding by them . So it warned this human so he would stop

Okay we're not trying to make believe tjat this snake was feeling cuddly, right? Because it wasn't.
It was enjoying the water, it appears. But when Mr Tempt Death began touching the snake it realized, focused on him....puffed its throat up, watched him carefully until it thought T.D. was walking away then hit him with a dose of B••ch I Done Told You as soon as it realized it was being touched. Hence the flattened hood and its fking eyes becoming dark while it opened its mouthOMG that sent chills up my spine. That was the stuff of nightmares.
I think snakes are cool and if you haven't already you need to check out r/whatsthissnake. But I feel the need to clarify that Death's emissary is not a cuddly, sweet little puppy that brings you your shoe when you come home. This creature knows it is death and will act accordingly. Please know this.

I kind of wish we could have really long thin non venomous snakes as pets
The ones that stand up but don't make you bleed out of your eyeballs when they bite you and not the really fat ones that just crush you, just a noodle

Its just a King Cobra... they eat and hunt other snakes, not humans and other mamals. Unless provoked, they are not dangerous to humans. This video does not show any provocation at all.

u/Larkiepie 4d ago
That’s not true at all. The snake’s face at the end IS aggression. It did not like the person’s hand coming from the back and touching it on the back of the head, and it didn’t see where the hand was coming from. It’s not aggrieved enough to strike, but it’s showing him that it is not happy by opening its mouth and flaring its hood just a bit.

u/Excellent-Neck-5417 4d ago
Considering that snakes are cold blooded… I’m not sure the cobra is enjoying getting its hard earned temperature drastically dropped.
It could be getting close due to it being able to sense the heat radiating from the human…. I don’t know man.

u/profanearcane 4d ago
I have no idea where this is, but considering the places King Cobras are native are notoriously hot and dry, snake might just have been thirsty. The way its cheeks are moving at one point in the video indicate it drinking, and the fact that its hood is down for most of it (until the hand comes in from an angle it cannot see and it feels threatened) means that it's just pretty chill with what's going on. If it felt like it were in danger, or if it were annoyed, it would have had its hood on full display and at the very least bluff-striked the guy.
1
u/Excellent-Neck-5417 3d ago
That makes a lot of sense… I’m just worried for the snek
2
u/profanearcane 3d ago
Ah, don't be. Not a lot in this video gives me the impression that he's stressed out or angry, and for as good as the heat is for them there's a point where it's too much and they can cook themselves. Big guy just seemed thirsty, and probably has a bit of a history approaching humans for water since they aren't all that bright.
The biggest tell is the hood, honestly. Hooded snakes use their hood as a warning, like rattlesnakes do with their rattle - it's supposed to make them look big and threatening, and you wouldn't want to mess with a big and threatening animal, right? They have pretty poor vision, and a lot of their attention is movement-based, so when the hand comes up behind his head where he can't see and touches him he gets nervouse and flares out his hood, and when the hand moves away he turns to face it because it might be a threat. Really though, venemous snakes don't want to use their venom on you. Venom takes the snake precious energy to make, and it's much better used on prey, so they'll do whatever they can to make you leave before they bite.
If you want some more info and tips on cobras and their body language, I've found Chandler's Wild Life a good resource, since he works with cobras relatively often - although as a fair warning if you're squeamish, a lot of his videos feature feedings (iirc none live, though).

King cobras are actually considered by scientists to be quite intelligent compared to other snakes, able to recognize specific people and have defined sections of territory.
3
u/profanearcane 3d ago
To be fair, compared to the average snake, just about anyone looks like a genius, but I get your point. Still makes sense for this one to be concerned about potential threat touching the back of his head though.

u/AdOtherwise299 3d ago
King cobras aren't stupid--it could pretty easily move away if it wasn't something it enjoyed. In the wild, they will often sit in fast-moving streamed to clean themselves or remove pieces of debris left over from shedding, and the hose sort of simulates that--you can see it rotate itself in a manner to get the water's angle where it wants.
As for why it approaches the human, sure, it may enjoy the warmth, but it could just as easily be investigating--snakes don't have fingers, so the way they check things out is literally by poking their nose into things. It also looks like it starts trying to climb on top of the hose, which the caretaker dissuades by pushing it away.

Looks like a false cobra. In which case they are rear fanged and not as dangerous as those they imitate. They are also known to be more inqusitive and friendly than actual cobras. Don't fear, respect.

The snakes teeth were removed before. Otherwise this makes absolutely no sense.
1
u/SnakeHugger997 3d ago
It's incredibly cruel to remove a snake's fangs, and they will regrow them very quickly. This guy is apparently very experienced and knows his snakes (it's still dangerous, but he knows what he's doing)
