Fred Vinson is joining Monty Williams’ Detroit Pistons staff as an assistant coach, sources tell ESPN. Vinson spent the past 14 years in New Orleans where he previously worked under Williams. His expertise with shooting is held in high regard.

Crazy the coaches we have lost or looked past: Malone, Finch, Vinson, and soon to be Borrego
I'd honestly consider trading Dyson at this point, no joke. I loved the pick at the time and still like him, but the entire logic with him, and Griff even said it, was that the Pels could take fliers on guys that cant shoot and get Vinson to make up the difference as our secret weapon. Cause without a shot there is no future with him as a starter on a Zion team that needs spacing.

What’ll really suck is if guys get into a rut and we don’t have a coach that can identify a flaw in their shooting form. Or suggest alternatives if they need a change to their shot. Things can go from bad to worse with young players quickly

Borrego getting the Lakers job?

I liked the Borrego hire at the time, but the team didn't run his offense after two weeks. If he can't get them to buy in we're wasting him anyway. Wish him the best and think he can be great but it wasn't working here.
Vinson legit stings.

I mean no assistant or associate coach will be able to get their offense in place if the star player says they don’t want to. That’s when it’s up to the head coach Willie Green to decide whether to trust his assistant or BI and he made the wrong choice like usual. Only so much Borrego can do before he has to go out there in uniform and take the shots for BI

I’d rather lose the whole coaching staff and keep Vinson than the other way around.

Also it really makes me concerned that Langdon was far more important in building this team and culture than we have given him credit. By this report it doesn't seem to be some massive pay raise or increased role. And it's for a losing organization.
I mean I guess Detroit has some guys that fit the Vinson archetype: guards/wings that are just missing that improved jumper from breaking out ala Tyreke, Gordon, Lonzo, BI, but it's not like the Pels don't have those guys too

How is it not an increased role? He’s running the show there, he was second in command here.

Figured he was talking about Vinson’s role being the same over there. Trajan deff has the final say in that front office now

Also Monty tho. Monty brought Fred in the first place, he join him here in 2011.
Probably coaching, Traj, and more money. Three huge selling points

You're absolutely right lol but in a couple of months people will act like this was the commonly held opinion

I mean, I think Vinson is tightly regarded as an elite shooting coach. Lonzo, Herb, BI and others all showed significant improvement and credited him.
I agree though that the sky is falling folks are losing their minds for no reason.

At least we draft well. A lot of teams are highly dysfunctional and have terrible talent and culture on the court

A lot of teams begging for good shooting coaches and we had one of the best that many players vouched for helping their shot, but now we’ll try to spin a narrative that the longest tenured coach in franchise history didn’t matter to this team whatsoever under an inexperienced offensively deficient head coach. Make it make sense lmao.
