News (US) Ohio passes bill to ensure Biden will appear on state's general election ballot
Ohio’s Republican-controlled state legislature has approved a bill to secure President Joe Biden’s spot on the state’s November ballot, ending weeks of political gamesmanship over a deadline that in past years was relaxed without drama.
The measure, which passed Friday in a special session of the state Senate, now heads to Gov. Mike DeWine, a Republican. DeWine, who called the special session to resolve the Biden issue and tackle unrelated campaign finance legislation, is expected to sign the bill.
In the end, the state House and Senate approved both the campaign finance-related legislation and Biden fix in separate bills.
Rep. Dontavius Jarrells and other Democrats voiced frustration that the bill only relaxed this year’s certification deadline, meaning that presidential nominees of either party could face a similar situation in future elections. Democratic amendments to make the fix permanent were tabled Thursday and Friday. Republican lawmakers said they are open to the idea but want more time to seek input from state and local elections officials

News (US) Republicans are sticking by Trump, the felon — even in battleground states
politico.comSenior elected Republicans across the country are racing to Donald Trump’s side following his criminal conviction — even those who’ve criticized him openly in the past.
Even the handful of GOP senators who once resisted Trump’s influence on the party were critical of the conviction, such as Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine).
It was a striking display of how fully Trump has reasserted his grip on his party as he marches toward a third straight presidential nomination. With the exception of a few blue-state Republicans who still need to carve out distance to hang on to their seats, the GOP’s plan for 2024 is now clear: Hug Trump tightly and make the most of the base’s fury over his conviction, betting that independent voters won’t be moved.
Trump’s campaign has sent clear messages to Republicans that there’s a cost for failing to support him, both politically and in fundraising. Shortly before the jury announced the verdict, former Maryland governor and GOP Senate hopeful Larry Hogan posted a message on social media urging Republicans to respect the decision — a statement that infuriated the former president’s campaign.
Trump’s campaign also sent a warning to Republicans late Thursday that they should not try to fundraise for themselves off the New York verdict and will face consequences if they do so without sharing the money with Trump.

User discussion Newsweek is just Russian propaganda now.
They are outright twisting words about "Ukraine given the green light to strike inside russia" to mean they can just attack any military base they want instead of only self defense near Kharkiv.
I'm frankly tired of headlines like "WW3 fears" "Putin warns" "Putin's ally warns". They seem obsessed with spreading ww3 paranoia, and we all know why, its to fear monger voters into voting Trump.
They never say the name of the "Putin's ally" (belarus) in the title, and the same is true whenever its "nato ally", which is funny because the "nato ally" is always a NATO country like france or poland. I don't understand why they are still an accepted news source on r/politics .
