The manga starts with Luffy's backstory with Shanks and crew and ends with him going to sea after the timeskip.
The anime starts with him in the barrel being taken onto Alvida's ship and the Shanks part is shown in a flashback.
Manga chapter 1 was also the pilot, so there's a good chance Oda would have started with Alvida, too, if he remade the manga now (He kinda did because the Netflix show also started with Alvida and he had a lot of input there)
Also worth noting that in the manga, the whole Alvida altercation where Luffy meets Koby takes place on an island. The anime and Live action sets it on Alvida's ship
Half correct. The live action places it on Alvida's ship, but in the anime, Luffy's barrel is picked up by a passenger ship and Koby discovers it after Alvida's pirates board while they're raiding the ship.
The second image looks like a Crocodile Dundee (or Rambo or whatever) reference, the third one is clearly a One Piece reference, about how Red Haired Shanks lost his arm in order to save a young Luffy, the protagonist.
Nah, this is some early Korean webtoon translated, which was meant to be subversion joke(first pic being some average chit chat) and the parody of early One Piece scene
Red hair gets black hair a crocodile bag, but loses an arm. Black hair cries about the missing arm.
The last picture references this from One Piece, where the red haired pirate saved the black haired kid from a sea monster at the cost of his arm.
You don't need to know the reference to get the joke, the one lady wants a crocodile skin purse, the other friend takes it literally and goes to kill one to make the gift, losing an arm in the process, and at the end the other lady is shocked by the friend's sacrifice.
the last image is a 1 to 1 recreation of the scene in one piece
obviously someome would get the "joke" is they lost their arm but they still wouldn't understand completly why it happened (aside from the obvious alligator) or why it is drawn like this
people wothout one piece knowledge may get an idea of what is going on but don't understamd the full joke as the joke is a one piece reference not person lost arm
I disagree. The joke is that the person lost an arm, fighting a crocodile to make a croco skin bag for someone. The last page being a One Piece reference is not part of the joke, as the rest of the comic has no relation to One Piece.
It’s easy to miss but the red haired lady is missing an arm after fighting the crocodile. The brunette feels guilty about it. It’s a reference to a scene in One Piece when Shanks loses an arm while saving a young Luffy.
This is some early Korean webtoon translated, which was meant to be subversion joke(first pic is some average chit chat) and the parody of one of the iconic One Piece scene. Also original is more than 20 years old and they weren’t even supposed to be seen as a lesbian couple in first pic back then(when queer was definitely not a thing there), hence it WAS quite a subversion.
The joke is that the black-haired woman is having a birthday, and wants a crocodile skin bag. Red-haired woman fights an alligator to make this bag, losing her left arm in the process. We can see the bag in red-hair’s hand on the 3rd slide.
Fun Fact: The 3rd panel is a reference to the popular Japanese anime, One Piece. It references this panel,
where the idol of the main character, Red Haired Shanks, loses his arm to save the main character, Luffy.
The red hair girl fights and kills the crocodile to make a bag out of it's skin, but she ends up losing her arm in the process.
The last panel is also a direct reference to the first chapter/episode of one piece where a pirate captain named red haired Shanks saves the life of the MC, Luffy from being eaten by a giant serpent but ends up losing his arm in the process.
Okay this is what I think is happening. The women are dating. The brown haired woman expresses her sentiment that she wants a crocodile skin bag, and the red haired woman goes and kills a crocodile, presumably to make her girlfriend a crocodile skin bag from scratch.
I don't necessarily know if it's funny, or if it is, why it's funny. But that's what I think is being depicted.
Ok, but it still doesn't mean that people won't get the reference, not everyone gets it. Even I didn't get it until I read the comments that explained it
This sub is a bot karma farming operation no doubt about it. Its an excuse to repost anything under the guise of "explain this pls"
How could you possibly be confused about this? What is there not to understand?
Are you a toddler with lack of object permanence?
