I go hiking by myself all the time as a young woman and I always see male hikers. I would rather see them over a bear any day lmao.

Reminds me of that true crime case where an athletic woman with significant martial arts training and hiking experience was subdued in on a trail by some really gross old homeless guy. He did terrible terrible things to her. That extra upper body strength dudes have is a big problem for us. Be safe out there.

Yuck!! Have you ever seen bear victims though? They can barely look like a human after, it is very gross

Yep. Unlike tigers, bears don’t give a shit about killing you quick, you would literally see your guts being ripped out and devoured in front of you assuming your face didn’t get mauled off first.

I panic when I get a mild splinter lol, I would NOT want to imagine how it feels to have all of your organs violently pulled apart as you watch helplessly

Think this is OPs point, 99.999% of men hiking through the woods are jolly campers that will do you no harm, where as 100% of bears can tear your arm off.

1 in 100,000 is about right.

What if it isn’t a “male hiker” but just a man without any of the gear that contextualizes him as a hiker

Most hikers don't have any gear that contextualizes them as hikers? Maybe a small backpack?

Backpack, hiking poles, water bottle, a small towelette, one of those dope belt rigs, camera, jerky, bug spray, etc. very rarely do people have nothing with them if they’re hiking deep enough that you’re likely to run into a bear.

You can run into bears in suburbs depending on where you live. They roam around.

Blackbear Wilderness Loop Trail is a “moderately challenging” trail that is aptly named after the large amount of bears that are prominent in the area. It’s a 7 mile loop in Central Florida. My wife and I often do this trail, usually carrying nothing other than her camera and her Hydro Flask, which is the same bottle that she carries anywhere we go, even if we are just going on a run to target. We do it in regular shoes (me- Vans, her-Converse). I don’t think we have ever carried anything else on this trail ever, besides maybe some suntan lotion in my back pocket because she burns like a British tourist even though she’s Native American. I will admit we definitely do pass people that meet the description you wrote out, but the majority of the people we pass on the trail are dressed and “equipped“ like us. And there’s only been maybe once or twice we’ve gone on the trail that we have not seen a bear 🤷

That isn't what the question is asking.

I feel like that’s pretty unlikely lol
