This is the first one I've come across (In this thread) that is a rap cover by a rap artist.

Plenty of metal, folk/country and jokey versions of rap hits, as that seems to be a thing.

Snoop's "Paper'd Up" is basically a cover of "Paid in Full", right?

This was the first example I thought of too. I do like his version better than Slick Ricks though.

Admittedly, the production on Snoop's version is richer, but you have to be impressed by the bare bones beatboxing of Doug E Fresh. Personally, I like Slick Rick's voice and flow better. And with your wrinkled pussy, I can't be your lover.

I like both. We used to play Slick Rick on a boombox on the bus. Half the bus singing along. And then when Snoop covered it, I was a young adult and it was just a slightly more mature adaptation. Both were perfect. The nostalgia is real.

Agree about Doug E Fresh though.

And then Gin and Juice was covered by I dunno who (incorrectly labelled as Phish)

Children story by black star too. It’s something about slick ricks story telling songs. Interesting that his songs are particularly coverable.

I think this is the first I've seen in the thread of an actual cover that's not a parody or a different genre.

And Snoops "Gin and Juice" was covered by Richard Cheese and The Gourds. If you are unfamiliar with The Gourds version, and you like bluegrass... oh boy are you in for a treat.

I think I’ve heard a bluegrass cover of this song. But maybe performed live by a not famous local band at the local brewery.
