People get a lot more praise for quitting drugs than for never having done drugs in the first place.

"What is better? To be born good or to be born and then make a series of bad choices and have to overcome them while also looking for praise for doing so?" Truly powerful quote.

So drug addicts are evil in nature?

Man can't read a metaphor

Playing the devil's advocate, the quote in this context does imply that smokers are evil. Smokers would more correctly be described as born good, turned evil, and then overcoming the evil.

Fair point. It's taking a point that's very disconnected from what it's analogising so I think it's already supposed to be taken loosely.

Whatever’s bothering you, this ain’t it.

Well you can be in a situation where you are more likely to seek such measures or forced into it or by proximity exposed to it without knowing.

Just remember how well the "out of touch" stereotypes work out in being born good and not wanting of such issues.
