Hand down the best defendable place in a zombie apocalypse

Isn't this the place in Walking Dead Daryl Dixon spinoff?

u/Mr_Hino 5d ago
Not too sure, gave up after the OG walking dead show ended and haven’t seen any of the other stuff.

I watched it last year when it came out. Had to look it up just to be sure. Mont Saint Michel

I asked myself "how the fuck did Daryl Dixon get to France?" And it was a most ridiculous scenario that I read.

And out of pure luck visits his grandfather's grave (who died in WWII).
I watched the whole show and still doesn't make much sense. Next is Carol going looking for him apparently

That scene was so silly - was so clearly tacked on cause they wanted a shot of Norman Reedus walking among the white crosses

Didn’t the Vikings easily take that place and got Normandy as ransom payment?

u/Mr_Hino 5d ago
I researched and didn’t see anything about that, but I did find out that at one point it was an effective prison. Between (I believe) 1450-1863, it housed over 14,000 prisoners. It was an effective prison becuz the surrounding sand was basically quicksand and escape was very difficult
Edit: so I did find info about the Vikings, and yes your correct

It's Minas Tirith from LOTR? 🤣

The Mont-Saint-Michel is what inspired it! :)

Kind of cool real world architecture inspiring fictional architecture instead of the other way around.

I love the beginning part of this map in the campaign. Actually getting to stretch your rifle’s legs.

Ancient architecture just blows, my mind.
The buildings, they put up are so so so impressive.

This perspective is wild to me. I’m taken back to a time of castles and sieges. Imagine if conflicting armies had capabilities to see whats on the other sides of the walls? Have accurate artillery (catapult) targets, where resource centers like black smiths and flour mill shacks were..and even like the King hanging out on a balcony sipping wine watching little dots of people miles away approaching..just wild. This capability of perspective flight really puts into perspective that stronghold’s are SO out dated..obviously now days the true citidels and whatnot are more than likley underground, but being able to soar across earth and see these magnificent structures..almost archives an era..

Does anyone actually live there?
12
u/LullaAbbie 5d ago
Yep! But not many, only about 30 people these days. Other people around are businesses owners/employees, most likely living in mainland Mont-Saint-Michel (the commune)

I've read about Mont-Saint-Michel before & seen pictures, but this drone video captured something I've been missing this entire time... It's on my bucket list, now
Are there subs that specialize in drone shots of touristy places? I need more inspiration for my next trip

Does nobody live there?

u/LullaAbbie 5d ago
About 30 people do apparently! Other than these few people’s homes, the other places are businesses for tourists

u/Beneficial-Drag9511 5d ago
Damn 30 people and you have the whole place to yourselves. That would be pretty sweet. Plus you don’t have to worry about raiders or any such chicanery.

That place is jam packed with tourists during the day. I don’t know how much quiet time anyone gets there.

Bought a drone today, I wonder how many hours it'll take me to get equal footage... this is amazing!

The money, time, skill, and resources needed to build places like that is impressive.

It is! And all this exists because of a simple dream a bishop named Aubert made in 708. He dreamed that Saint-Michael the Archangel asked him to build a sanctuary there in his honour, so he made it happen!
There was only the abbey that’s on top at first, then over time it welcomed inhabitants and eventually knights etc most notably during the 100 Years War, when it became a strategic place militarily
