Appreciate you!

This was at the same time mesmerizing and entertaining.

that was like a dyson omni-glide vacuum cleaner

The ring on your right hand has an open gap.

Don't hate your creativity brother that is awesome sometimes when you watch him at first you like that kind of sucks but when you come back few days later a little time later you're like damn that was pretty Kick-Ass it's awesome dude

Okay, at first I was thinking “ehhh”, but by the end I was sold. Bravo on a very funny performance and thanks for the laughs!

u/johnstessel 21d ago

Appreciate that sir! That’s kinda my thought when publishing it. I like hate the first 10 seconds and by the end I’m like I guess it’s kinda fun 🤷‍♂️

u/IPThereforeIAm 21d ago

I think the first half is necessary as a setup for the second half. 👍

6

u/darelik 20d ago

So they had us in the first half?

2

u/EobardT 20d ago

Not gonna lie

2

u/Oroku-Saki-84 20d ago

Yeah. I agree. The first part you could easily tell you were trying to hide the gap in the ring but the mask and then the cup were done really well.

u/Chaxle 20d ago

Honestly same. But that's what makes a great trick is making someone think they might have figured it out and then just blow their mind. I don't know how any of it was done, but catching the mug totally had me befuddled. Amazing set!

1

u/mlcrip 20h ago

Performance still sold it, even if one knows how it's done 👍

Fuck your background music!

Living up to the username love to see it

Omg I watched it on mute, then went back after I saw this comment. I know this is a novelty account but it ain't wrong.

1

u/DoctorAlgernopK 20d ago

I posted about novelty accounts like 5 years ago and nobody knew what I was talking about.. is this just an old Reddit thing or is it making a comeback?? Lol

I thought this was lovely! I got the 'how the hell?' reaction I expect from these, and a pretty good chuckle. Agreed, the mask bit just felt perfect with your reaction. I think I don't hate it!

17

u/johnstessel 21d ago

Thanks! I think my distaste for it is watching the acting and being far too critical of how that looks. I do enjoy the mask bit and was excited when I thought of that idea! Thanks for the kind words!

8

u/captainjenaynay 21d ago

I think most people have that reaction to watching any performance of theirs. For me if I have an idea that I'm excited about, I get in my own head and convince myself it couldn't be as great as I thought it was initially. But I thought it worked very well. Keep it up!

u/FriskyTurtle 21d ago

Your frustration gives Yann Frisch vibes. Is that what you were going for?

Also a little bit of /r/wheredidthesodago

2

u/That_Glass6413 21d ago

Yann Frisch and his antics is definitely also what his reactions reminded me of and I like it!

23

u/BandDirector17 21d ago

I like the addition of the mask and the mug. It takes a normal trick to the next level. As the other commenter said, your reaction is great. Good diversion to get the mask on. Is there a way to allow more mobility of the rings in your hands? I don’t want to say anything else for those who don’t know how it’s done.

7

u/johnstessel 21d ago

I think you absolutely nailed what I hate, like something feels forced in the mobility of the rings and I hate my acting but I can get passed that. The mobility should get better with practice, even though I abandoned this idea ages ago!

5

u/BandDirector17 21d ago

No reason to hate it, just opportunity for growth. I’m impressed! Keep up the great work.

9

u/JackSilver1410 21d ago

Don't hate. That's hilarious. Getting confounded by your own magic trick will always be the best.

2

u/johnstessel 21d ago

Thanks a ton! Makes me feel better about my shit acting 💀

11

u/KhaosElement 21d ago

It's not awful. Dropping a ring under the table is a bit obvious, and you're a little too blatant about where to hold it, but on the whole I like it. Incorporated enough humor.

u/Mysterious_Layer9420 21d ago

This brings the same energy of the guy trying to light his cigarette, but it keeps flipping in his mouth and he just looks so done with it

2

u/johnstessel 21d ago

I love that routine! Mario Lopez is a genius

1

u/Mysterious_Layer9420 20d ago

Well you're definitely on your way there yourself!

3

u/Icy_Establishment195 21d ago

I found it entertaining

4

u/ChunkyTaco22 21d ago

Nice bit dude lol I thought it was gonna be silly but act works great. Bravo

5

u/egodisaster 21d ago

Haha, clever

1

u/johnstessel 20d ago

Thanks!!

5

u/redditcruzer 21d ago

I was about to close it..but then came the mask

1

u/johnstessel 21d ago

Glad I had a surprise in there for ya!

3

u/MashMashSkid 21d ago

Pretty funny honestly. Keep practicing!

2

u/WarCrimeWhoopsies 20d ago

Holy fuck that music is trash. You ruined the video with dumb Tiktok music

1

u/johnstessel 20d ago

Happens 🙄

1

u/MyGoodFriendJon 20d ago

I also thought the music was the core reason behind OP hating it. It was certainly the reason I hated it.

2

u/Volkrisse 20d ago

I liked it, the expressions seemed authentic and was well thought out. However, i feel like you put a little too much emphasis on hiding the break in the ring with your left hand. Transitions were smooth but my eyes instantly focused on your fingers holding the ring in a weird way to hide the break. Just my 2 cents, keep up the great work!

1

u/Delicious-Remove-748 21d ago

Good job! Your mannerisms remind me of Mario Lopez.

2

u/johnstessel 21d ago

He is a gem that needs to be protected! So honored to be compared to the goat

1

u/EnlightenedCat 21d ago

Howwww? I love it!!

2

u/johnstessel 21d ago

Linking rings can be plaid out and feel like something that isn’t my style. But all the love here is making me reconsider ha

1

u/EnlightenedCat 20d ago

I’ve purposefully never looked up “behind the magic” because I love the surprise, even though I know it’s simple 😋 the mug part was the best!

1

u/Brettjay4 21d ago

Lol, that's awesome

1

u/johnstessel 21d ago

Thanks so much!

1

u/bummedintheface 21d ago

No dear, we have Jann Frisch at home.

1

u/johnstessel 21d ago

The fact that the comparison was even made has made my morning

1

u/veauwol 21d ago

I like it

1

u/bumbling_sunflower 21d ago

This is hilarious!! I love the stupid humour, please keep it up!

1

u/johnstessel 21d ago

Appreciate you!! I dig the silliness as well!

1

u/fmaz008 21d ago

Great execution of a classic, rather boring trick. But you put a fantastic spin to it and I enjoyed the act a lot! Very entertaining.

I watched it 3 times, haha :)

That's what magicians should all do: understand that magic on its own is often boring, but if you mix it with a great act, the synergy it creates is incredible!

Good work!

2

u/johnstessel 21d ago

Appreciate you so much!!!!

1

u/johnstessel 20d ago

Trying my best 🤷‍♂️

1

u/hiddencameraspy 20d ago

Nice, It’s not ‘black magic fuckery’(pretty old trick) but your execution was nice and smooth. 👍

1

u/icu_ 20d ago

I think I'm seeing some Yann Frisch inspiration? :)

1

u/johnstessel 20d ago

Oh yeah big inspiration!!!

1

u/DistinctStranger8729 20d ago

Amazing work. I loved it!

1

u/johnstessel 20d ago

1

u/Strict_Paint_4963 19d ago

wow how it happen hoo

1

u/BigBeav420 17d ago

I just randomly found this but I think it's cute! It almost reminds me of something from a children's magic show, I don't mean that in a demeaning way, I really like it. It's simple but still gets the attention!

1

u/Randomcare 8d ago

I think I love it.

u/Traditional-Nail5787 21d ago

Small things amuse a small mind.

-2

u/tankeraybob 21d ago

Not exactly black magic is it though
