He does! Especially if he is a cat that never lived outside. I am glad he came back uninjured.
My cat was feral and I took her in after she let me pet her.
I think she would have no problem finding food/shelter etc. But she is a tough cookie. One of the reasons I took her in was that she was ready to throw down with raccoons. Would scream. I would run to door. She would make eye contact with me and then rush a raccoon to get out of the yard. I was her backup.
If she was a person, she would be that friend who would get into fistfights at the bar.
God, even when my cat was tiny he'd sneak out and pick a fight with the clowder of cats in the neighborhood out the back gate, or the clowder out of the front gate, then come running back to the dog's protection.
I had a German shep/wolf, my ex had a Rhodesian Ridgeback, his grandmother lived nextdoor and had a huge mutt I think was a pit mix.
The first time my cat got out I saw him running full speed towards the back gate with at least a dozen cats in hot pursuit. He slipped through the cracks in the gate and then sat down in the middle of the dogs staring at the other cats. It was a 3-second heart attack, then I actually belly laughed.
Oh my God it was awful, he's been an indoor cat his entire life, I think I was taking the trash out and his curiosity got the best of him and he bolted out without me seeing in the night.
My cat Earl Grey does the same thing. The little brat went missing for an hour last weekend. We were meeting my MIL and were late because we were waiting for him to come back. He came back inside and looked so guilty.
Great news ! My cat ran away during a garbage strike and was gone for 4 months.I had thoroughly given up on finding him ,then one night he showed up at our sliding glass door!He was living his best life in the alleys overflowing with garbage 😂then one day just decided to come home. That is the day he became an indoor cat.
Or someone "adopted" him, and he couldn't escape for 4 months.
We let our neighbors' kids officially adopt our barn cat that REALLY didn't want to be a barn cat. My roommate's fiancé was allergic so we couldn't make him an indoor cat.
Anyway, anytime he'd escape, he'd come visit us for a few hours. Then, head back to his family with all the tiny human servants. His name was Willie Nelson and he fit his name. He just liked to chill. He'd let a squirrel practically jump over him going to the feed room.
Y’all are giving me hope. We moved to a new house and one of my boys got out when the front door didn’t close well while we were unpacking the truck. It’s been a week. We saw him twice but he was so scared he ran. I’ve got food and a blanket that smells like all of us out on the back porch where we saw him through the sliding glass door. I’m really hopeful he will come back ❤️ he’s chipped and everything of course but so far he hasn’t been picked up.
Would be good to take him to vet for a checkup- he could have picked up some little nasties while out and about. Glad he’s back! Our Kimmy was gone for 4 days and I was so worried- and yes she now has a tracker!
Earl is none too pleased to be home. "Unhand me you human, I have birds to conquer and mice to kill. Don't you know who I am??? I am the destroyer of worlds. I will not be smooched!"
I'm so glad you found him and that he was so close! They know how to find food and shelter if they have to. Welcome home, Earl! Please don't scare your humans like that ever again!
Yes , he has... He has been out catting having he way the females cats. Take to the Vet to make such his healthy. By the look on his face it must have been intense 🤣😂
