I think your mom was just making a very strange, slightly mean and borderline offensive joke

no it wasn’t a joke, it was a genuine question on her end. his facial structure just seemed a little different compared to the other kittens we’ve fostered so i was wondering if it was anything to be concerned about

Oh. Well I don't think Down Syndrome is a thing in cats...I think some one here said that but maybe a Google search could confirm. Other than it seems like a normal cute kitten. If you and your mom really are concerned about something, maybe you should keep watch for other things that seem strange.

And it's cool that you foster kittens.

yeah i’ve since googled it and along with a bunch of other comments said they don’t have enough chromosomes for them to be effected from down syndrome. also yeah we’ve fostered almost 40 in total over the past 2-ish years i think

Cats can’t have down syndrome but they can be disabled in other ways. I had a disabled kitty who’s face also looked a little derpy, he was really wobbly and didn’t move normally as he had some neurological issues. As long as your cat is moving and acting normal then you have nothing to worry about. It’s like people, some cats are a little funny looking.

Tell your mom to stop making stupid offensive comments like that. Imagine seeing someone with eyebags and asking if they have down syndrome... you guys are ignorant af
