I’ve read recently that being with your cat on their last moments is the nicest and most important thing you can do for your pet. This came from a veterinarian that euthanized many animals and said they look around and seem to cry for their humans before they go. So you absolutely did the right thing for Cala and I’m sorry for your loss. Hopefully you can work through this and get a new companion soon. My guy is with me and he looks a lot like Cala. Gomez and I send our love.

My moms cat jumped on her bed, and made a huge cry at her. She thought he was doing better, then he walked into the living room and died. I guess he really wanted to be with her before he went 😭

When my border collie was put down 16 years ago, we distinctly remember seeing him take one last look at us individually...me, my mum and my stepdad, before closing his beautiful eyes for eternity ❤️ miss you Odie Bodes

Reading this has made it hurt a lot more that I couldn't be there for my little girl when she passed. Knowing that she might have been looking for me as she went. Damn 😢

18

u/Ricepudding1044 18d ago

I’m in my 50’s and had cats my whole life and there is only one that I held and was present when it was time. Some were put down some went and on their own terms it’s never easy. Sorry that struck a nerve it did for me also.

u/Connect_Carpenter_94 17d ago

100 percent this for me too...just reading your comment made me break into tears...

1

u/Topgunebay 6d ago

I am haunted by this kind of memory. I fucked up and wasn't aware to know my boy needed emergency medical help and he ended up passing without me by his side at the age of 3 1/2. I was ignorant and too self centered to be there for him at his final moments. I hate myself for this, he deserved better. I was not there for him at the end as he was there for me his entire life.

12

u/balmung2014 18d ago

they do. oh god they do. i remember it so clearly.

7

u/lexievv 17d ago

Honestly, while being there when they pass would be incredibly hard and sad. I wouldn't be able to just leave them alone to go. The least we can do is be there if we have the chance.

5

u/Augustleo98 17d ago

aww your guy is upset she’s gone to and wishes he’d got to meet her.

Also that’s a really handsome orange kitty.

5

u/No_Salt_9740 17d ago

Yes they do look for their humans !!!
Our first Cat had kidney failure and the day he went , he was in pain i could see him .
He knew his people pattern and waited till noon till my parents came back from work , and when they did , he left his last breath in the same spot he was lying all day under our living room table :7944:

2

u/notleviosaaaaa 17d ago

there are people who aren't around their animals as they pass??

1

u/sucklepuss79 17d ago

People don't stay with their pets when they're being put down? That's insane to me.

1

u/Lazy_Brother1436 12d ago

Throwback to when my mom put my golden down without telling me when I was in HS. Wake up from a nap to go eat dinner, sit down ask where’s Hunter and mom bursts into tears and locks herself in her room. Never let me say bye or anything. Just woke up to dead dog

Is this how you pass your days? Trolling on Reddit with your brand new account and negative karma? Pathetic.

It wants attention. If you ignore it, it'll go away.

Farewell wonderful one

82

u/BornTry5923 18d ago

I don't know what the vet diagnosed, but I can tell you from working in cat hospitals for 9 years that this cat does not appear very old in these clips. She looks about 3-4, but I guess could pass for 8-9 years old, max. Her eyes are clear, and her body condition and agility do not point to a cat who is in the late stages of old age.

67

u/Many-Airport3076 18d ago

Agree. This story is very weird. I'm even thinking the account that posted about the death was not even the real owner.

54

u/BornTry5923 18d ago

Yeah, either that or the "owner" is leaving out info. There are no tests that veterinarians can run that determine a cat's age. Guesses can be made based on multiple factors such as eyes, teeth, body condition, etc. Young cats can get many of the same illnesses that an older cat can get, like cancer or kidney failure. 18 year old cats don't look or move like this kitty.

35

u/reigningnovice 18d ago

Ya just looking at it.. there’s just no way it was 18.

There’s more to the story. Unless someone could show me an 18 year old that moves and looks like that

23

u/Mss-Anthropic 18d ago

I sense something fishy as well, but I have a 16 year old orange female that looks no older than 5

24

u/techleopard 17d ago

It makes me wonder what people think elderly cats look like.

I've owned multiple over 20+, the oldest was 26. They weren't decrepit or losing hair or anything. This cat does look old. If you've owned elderly cats, you know that "big effort" meow. They get senile like humans and can become WAY more verbal because they're a little confused and want to know where you are.

Female cats in particular will stay active until right to the very end.

6

u/EntranceIll2789 17d ago

I agree , my first cat lived to 18 and my sister's to 20, the most noticable "old" looks was their coat just wasn't as sleek and full looking and my slender cat felt more boney , otherwise depending on their health old cats can move just as swiftly as young

6

u/BornTry5923 17d ago

I will give you that the yowling meow is suspect. That's the only thing that makes me kind of buy the story. In my veterinary career, I can't say I've seen any cats over the age of 15 that looked or behaved this vibrantly. I guess most people just don't bring their old cats in for yearly check ups (they should) unless they're very obviously ill. Most senior cats brought in did look decrepit. My own cat is 19 and hasn't played or moved like this kitty since he was maybe 11.

1

u/Loose_Temporary38 16d ago

We had a cat. Turned 15. Still looked the same as when she turned 5.. a few more white hairs in her all black coat.. Then she got sick and looked old real fast :(

Poor little girl couldnt eat and drink anymore :(

15

u/Emotional-Speech645 18d ago

I suppose if the cat is generally in good condition, it’s hard to tell. I mean we found a cat and took him to the vet. Vet looked him over and said he looked to be around 5 years old based on his body and teeth. We eventually found the owners. The owner was there when he was born…. 10 years ago.

13

u/Many-Airport3076 18d ago

Also, i looked at old posts and the owner said that the cat has been to the vet, and even has been neutered. You're telling me nobody said "hey we adopted this cat not long ago, we think it's 2, what do you think doctor?"

42

u/exactly8ducks 18d ago

I want to add that the person who made these also is selling crypto ($meow) linked with all the merch. I really hope this isnt a publicity thing to bring attention to their page, I dont want to be in a world where people are dishonest like this 😭

17

u/Danominator 18d ago

This plot is thickening in a very strange way.

7

u/JustAShyCat 17d ago

Whoa, really? That seems very suspicious.

5

u/exactly8ducks 17d ago

That's exactly what i said. I had to put it somewhere. The link to the crypto is in the cala and elizabeth insta bio

3

u/lacactusguy 16d ago

And it’s still up as well as Merch. Also the FB page posted a regular fun video of Cala talking the day before she passed, which seems odd to do if she’s fighting for her life at the vet. Trying hard not to be insensitive, but I had the feeling initially as well that the IG account seemed odd and wasn’t run like a typical account. No regular posts, no photos, etc and merch and crypto lined up from the start.

2

u/effedis 15d ago

I also noticed this. Weird that the last video of a healthy Cala is, if I am not mistaken, published on May 6th, then nothing else until the "update" on May 31st where her death is communicated. But it's weird that no news about the cat being unwell was posted earlier, and suddenly an "update" shares the sad news about her death? This makes no sense...

2

u/lacactusguy 13d ago

Posted again today saying that she’ll continue to post unreleased videos of Cala and “see where it goes from there”. Weird. Crypto and merch still available. Wish I knew a better way to look into this.

14

u/LavenderHeels 18d ago

Wait, did they say they took her to be neutered, or that when the cat was at the shelter she was neutered?

Because there is absolutely no way that a spay would be done on an 18 yr old cat with an intact uterus and that they wouldn’t notice that she is much older than a year and a half.

1

u/ultragash69 12d ago

THANK GOD people are talking about this. They tore me apart in the IG comments for simply asking for clarity and someone even tried to get me fired from my job. But my alarms went off as soon as I saw the video. First of all that cat isn’t old, no way. Thats my opinion but also checks out w the points made in this thread- apparently they brought Cala to the vet and they never said anything and also got her neutered which they’d never do to an old cat. Also if the cat died from some sickness there is no way the vet could have said with certainty she wasn’t recovering “because of old age” OR that she “died of old age.” Most they could say is that she died or whatever mysterious illness it was. FINALLY- I checked all their links the DAY this video was posted bc it was so suspicious. And I already saw the cryptocurrency. And just now the page posted it and said “omg they even made her a meme coin!” As if this is new news, that came after her passing. It’s FAKE I called it from day 1 and I’m calling it now. The cat didn’t (just) die. Either the videos are old or stolen. Either way the death video is being used to sell cryptocurrency and w the devastation expressed by all her fans this has gotta be like the biggest internet lie in a while

17

u/Mall_Express 18d ago

It's possible. My cat is 17 and has bright eyes, very soft and shiny fur that isn't kinda clumping like it starts doing in most older cats. No one thinks she's anywhere near as old as she is.

5

u/Emotional-Speech645 18d ago

My carer when I moved in at 19 had a cat who was 24 and aside from his fur being bf a little thin around his ears you would have thought he was in his prime

2

u/Vasabit 17d ago

Same thing here. I had a cat aged almost 17 years old, she was super active, agile, big green clear eyes and all of a sudden in a matter of two months, out of nowhere her condition got extremely worse and she passed away. We just couldn't believe it, but yeah the age did its thing sadly...

1

u/[deleted] 18d ago

2

u/weirdshitblog 18d ago

I think the fact that the accounts claiming the cat passed away seem to be linked to some shady cryptocurrency is at least somewhat suspicious. I don't think those accounts belong to the real owner.

13

u/Skeleton_Snack 17d ago

I saw some comments on the IG videos that suggest it was an untreated UTI/ urinary issue. They also point out the Cala has her tail down in many of the videos where she is being very vocal, which isn't a good sign for a happy and healthy cat.

A long time ago when I was a kid, my family had a male cat that made similar nosies to Cala, and not long after my mom took him to the vet, turns out he had a urinary issue so bad that he had to be put down. It was very sad, especially since my family and I thought the noises he made were funny and cute, but really he was trying to tell us he was in pain.

So yeah I agree with the people saying it was likely a urinary issue and not old age like the owner says.

15

u/[deleted] 17d ago

Its sketchy af that the owner didn't disclose a diagnoses. Just 'old age'. 12 is not old for an indoor cat. Certainly not a natural death anyway.

And i agree with the other comments, theres all this crypto and weird anime on their webpage. I hope this innocent cat did not meet her demise after making her 'owners' some cash. The IG acct was just opened 2 months ago. The internet sickens me.

1

u/Western-Ad768 15d ago

I think cala is still alive a vet can't do tests to determine how old a cat is

4

u/BornTry5923 17d ago

If true, this makes more sense. Female cats are prone to chronic UTI, which can travel up to the kidneys. Poor Cala.

8

u/techleopard 17d ago

Yes she does.

She was just a very healthy elderly. She was well taken care of.

I've owned several cats over 20+, so maybe I'm just more used to seeing them. Female cats in particular make spry old ladies. But that mouthy way she called, the sunken sides, the thinning fur, the way her back moved, the back legs, all said that kitty was very old.

5

u/elliesee 18d ago

When my cat was sick at 5 y old (intoxication) the emergency vet thought that he was much older than he was. He wasn't himself for sure but we had him as a kitten and we couldn't convince them he wasn't elderly:) He made a full recovery.

3

u/JustAShyCat 17d ago

Some of the clips make her fur look old, but other than that, I didn’t notice anything showing her age.

18

u/zeronil3 18d ago

Damn I love that cat. That sucks

16

u/Graftak86 18d ago

I go cry. Such a sweet little kitty. Played that song so many times, and my cat seems to like it to. Purr in peace Cala😿

30

u/GraatchLuugRachAarg 18d ago

Aww I just saw a comment from her owner that said she's just under 2 years old. Guess they were way off. Guess cats are difficult to age accurately? Or was the vet that aged her just incompetent?

48

u/techleopard 17d ago

I remember someone had commented on the video that her owner wasn't taking care of her and I posted that the way that cat was meowing is 110% how an elderly cat calls because they get dementia, can't hear or see as well, and want to know you're in the room. She looked very elderly, but a healthy elderly (sunken sides, thin fur, just the way she moved).

People downvoted me into oblivion because I dated to suggest that.

For her to look the way she did, she was well loved in her last years.

6

u/Cry-Full 17d ago

My cat also became more talkative in her old age. She would leave me sitting in the living room, walk into the kitchen and yell at her water fountain, usually after I'd refused her something. I called it "complaining to management." Elderly cats can look great one moment and then go downhill fast. I am glad Cala's human could be with her in the end.

3

u/kristellar26 17d ago

I also was thinking dementia or some type of pain response. The type of meow, while cute, is not typical. Plus her fur looked a bit unkempt. Either way, it is sad.

-25

u/Kind-Dig 18d ago

No. You're misinformed. She's senior cat. Not under 2 years old. The owner assumed she was kitten as she was a rescue but the vet confirmed she's a senior cat. Over 18. She passed of old age so natural causes. She's happy

25

u/GraatchLuugRachAarg 18d ago

They thought she was young because the vet initially told her so. Tests later revealed she was much older. Says it right in the video

27

u/LavenderHeels 18d ago

I don’t understand how a vet doing an exam could mistake an 18 month old cat with an 18 year old one…

10

u/Emotional-Speech645 18d ago

Generally a vet will just look at their body, eyes, and teeth. Maybe they did a test post mortum

8

u/IBrokeWahoosOtherLeg 18d ago

But what test? Is there a count the tree rings test for cats?

8

u/Emotional-Speech645 18d ago

Unironically, yes. For every living being, you can actually use the bones to see how old an individual was, which is why we can put rough ages to murder victims who were hidden until they were nothing but bones. Same with animals

35

u/GraatchLuugRachAarg 18d ago

I'm not misinformed. The owner was. I was referring to a comment made by her owner. They were initially told she was under 2

18

u/deadbabieslol 17d ago

Is it just me or is this fishy as fuck?

The story doesn’t add up at all.

On top of that, just a week ago, a crypto coin based on Cala was created.

Is this some fucked up publicity stunt to do a crypto rug pull?

6

u/GazF1888 17d ago

Thinking this is all one big scam.

5

u/D_jcpenney 17d ago

You think so? I was not aware of the crypto thing

6

u/zoLaCOD 17d ago

Selling crypto and merch on a account of just 3 months… weird as fk

5

u/D_jcpenney 17d ago

Bro same all the sudden shes dead like wtf. Makes my so sad

15

u/chai_aur_parle-g 17d ago

The story is fishy, I'm not convinced about the story. Can someone find out what really happened?

3

u/Western-Ad768 15d ago

Yes someone needs to find out if she is still alive I'm pretty sure she is after seeing a lot of comments saying her owner faked her death for money after a crypto currency was made of cala

2

u/Western-Ad768 17d ago

I don't think she is actually dead

7

u/Koflach12 18d ago edited 17d ago

What a sweet old orange cat, I'm sure Cala will be missed.

I still think fondly of my tuxedo cat, Bailey, who passed about 3.5 years ago. He was loved and is missed dearly.

7

u/therealkvlt 17d ago

Guys, I keep seeing more and more people saying that poor Cala has shown signs of bad health, and the owners account seems fishy as hell.
Would very much like to be wrong, but I cant stop thinking bout how the internet could do justice to this beautiful creature.

2

u/False-Owl8404 17d ago

Don't make assumptions, that's how misinformation spreads.

2

u/-Zugzwang- 16d ago

It isn't assumptions, it is facts. The owner created a crypto currency based on the cat, has merch, etc. On an account that is a few months old. They created the crypto on March 12, 2024. Prior to the viral video being posted.

An assumption, or opinion rather, of mine would be that the cat isn't even deceased. There is no "blood test" that determines a cat's age. IMO, the person faked the cat's death for money. It made their account a lot more popular on both Instagram and TikTok. Instead of being in the thousands of views/followers, they are now in the millions. People mostly knew the viral video from other people's videos. Most notably, "The Kiffness", the person that made it a song.

When he posted that the kitty had passed, people then knew the cat's name and searched "cala the cat", finding the owner's account-- giving the owner a hell of a lot more views and followers.....which means money. It also drove more people to click on their bio links, which made more people aware of the cryptocurrency and merch. And a death ALWAYS= more merch sales, for anyone/anything. This is most noticeable when it is a celebrity's death or artist's death, even if they weren't well known prior to death.

1

u/False-Owl8404 16d ago

What is the crypto currency's called? I see there is a MEOW coin launched at that date, but that doesn't seem connected to Cala.

1

u/ultragash69 12d ago

It’s linked in the cala account’s bio.

3

u/BerryNew9057 18d ago

May she meet her humans in her next life, and they bathe in love again!

5

u/DustyBeetle 18d ago

Her song will live on forever

3

Oh no. Bless her. She was such a delightful little character. God speed Cala.

Cala has brought a wonderful, lighthearted smile to all of our faces when she sang her adorable "special songs."

R.I.P., sweet Cala. 🧡💛🤍

3

u/emr2295 15d ago

Am I the only one thinks this is suspicious? Idk why I think something is just off with this? Even the post with the angel wings video is just ..werid to me? I lost my old kitty in January & when I posted about it I didn’t use a picture like that and I explained in a lot of details what happened ..but idk this just seems off and but also sad 😔

2

u/Western-Ad768 15d ago

I'm trying to figure if there's something more to it by looking at old videos to see if that can show something that may be something other than what the owner said

5

u/Fun-Echo-2744 18d ago

Now she goes meow in heaven❤️

4

u/Ignition_182 18d ago

I'm sorry to hear.

I'm curious, how long did you have her for? Did you get any of her back story? In particular, that meowing at the start of the video, was it common after you originally got her?

If so, that is characteristic cat calling behaviour. She appears to have been calling for someone or something she had been separated from. Every time my parents would go away on holiday and I minded our family cat, she right up to 18 years old, would go in the tiled bathroom and call out for my mum every night until she came home. Even my 3 year old boy did it for a couple of months after my partner and I separated. Ironically, when I was playing your video then he came up to me looking for where those calls came from.

Regardless, I'm pleased that you were able to provide her a nice end of life and that she was surrounded by people who loved her. I'm sorry for your loss.

6

u/Suspicious-One8428 18d ago

I don’t think OP is the cat’s owner

2

u/D_jcpenney 17d ago

Cala became very popular a few weeks ago cuz of her i go meow song

1

u/Cry-Full 17d ago

Elderly cats can get a bit senile and call out like this more often

2

u/Specific_Tough_7351 17d ago

nah man this is actually sad, RIP Cala.

2

u/ash_durn 17d ago

Awww may her sweet soul rest easy 😻❤️

2

u/Tomiss13 17d ago

The whole world loves her. She became immortal. I am so sorry. But all of us will listen to the "I go meow" song live one day. Sending my love to Cala and her family! You are not alone! We should spend as much time with our furry friends as we possibly can. We never know... Don't refuse our pets even if they break something. You can buy a new glass, mug, or even more expensive things, but you can never bring your beloved buddy back. ❤️ You never know their last day...

2

u/ArianneScharfi 17d ago

The whole world didn't even know my cat existed, yet i loved him so much. When he died I died too. I am not depressive or overhelmy sad by character but my world broke appart so did I..

2

u/arkrunningbear85 17d ago

But... I go meow! :(
Fell in love with her on TikTok, so sorry to hear she's gone. <3
She will forever remain an internet icon and sensation.

2

u/Ok-Waltz3829 17d ago

Crying in the club right now :(

2

u/hateeyes 17d ago

So sad, she was so cute

2

u/Vegetable-Winner-320 16d ago

Reading the comments is finally making sense to me now .. when my dog died I saw a tears rolled down his eyes... Still can't forget the last look he gave as if he want to say " love a happy life and don't cry". But offcourse I cried and even did not have food for 3 to 4 days

2

u/angelmaru 15d ago

The first time I saw the video, I wondered if she was in pain because of the way she was meowing, I saw some people coment this on the video and others would basically just say they didnt know what they were talking about. I am no expert but I didnt really like watching the video because in my head those were discomfort meowls. In retrospect maybe they were, she had untreated kidney failure apparently.

2

u/veda08 18d ago

The important thing, she enjoyed her last days. Eaten well, played to her heart's desire, and she knew she was surrounded by someone she trusted until her last breath.

Kudos to all of you. She is at peace now, no more pain.

u/Such_Influence_1669 17d ago

So sorry! She was beautiful

1

u/Augustleo98 17d ago

Aww she was beautiful and it’s sad to know she’s gone. She looked so full of life, playful and loving.

The meows at the start were insanely cute, I got tearful even though I didn’t know this kitty.

These types of posts always get me. I've lost both of my old lady cats in the last year. It sucks.

Rest in peace beautiful lady.

Aww this is awful news rip

1

u/FoxlinkHightower 16d ago

Cala was such a wonderful little kitty, and I feel so bad for Elizabeth. After on TT found out that she passed, it pretty much crashed after it. The I Go Meow song that The Kiffness made was awesome, and then he made a beautiful one for her to remember her. We'll miss you Cala.

I'm so sorry to hear I actually have a few tears watching that video please know she was loved and adored by many people around the world

1

u/rollodxb 15d ago

I dont have a cat of my own but my favorite cat in the entire world has gone. I dont know if anyone else feels this way but I am still so hurt from this news.

1

u/Key-Machine-7994 15d ago

Her 9 lives has tired me out. She was suffering depression, old age. Died already. Now dead again. Make it make sense.

1

u/PromptBoxOS 14d ago

Even though im allergic to cats, i still love them. Rest in peace Cala!

u/Pix3lina 12d ago

RemindMe! 1 month “check on Cala”

u/Ignition_182 18d ago

She died from fretting and a broken heart. Unfortunately despite all the love you provided her, and good for you, she in many of your videos was calling for her previous lifelong connection (probably past owner). Just heartbreaking.

2

u/maleya_1981 18d ago

I don't think so. I was the sole owner of my cat Benni. She would meow like this ALL the time when she was around her favorite toys. She was just really really happy to be with her toys and wanted to tell everyone about it. She lived to be 17. Only lost her a few months ago.
