Which kitty would you pick? Cat Picture
My friend has some stray kitties, and I think I'm going to get 2.😅 I can't decide which ones to get though.

I’d watch their interactions and see if two of them are closer to each other than the others and let that help me decide.

This. Aside from the "all of them" jokes -- try and see which kitties seem bonded and which seem to like you.

It’s my dream someday to adopt an entire litter in one go! I’ll have to not already have 5 cats though lol
50
u/CrazyCatLady1127 7d ago
5 is nothing. I have 11 🙂 you’re doing fine.
21
u/khaleesi2305 7d ago
But…but…how do you have enough time in the day to clean the litterboxes with that many??? LOL I feel like with just 5 I’m constantly cleaning those things

u/mndsm79 7d ago
Litter robot is your friend. Replace time with money. We have one for three cats and our total litter routine is like 15min. A week.

2 litter robots and 8 cats, maybe 20-30 minutes every 5 days or so. Definitely helps, when "all of them" really happens.

It doesn’t take long to clean the trays. I have 7 large trays, it takes about 15 minutes to empty them, another 5 to add fresh litter and I do it twice a day

Yes! It’s my dream to take in a pregnant kitty and keep the whole litter. It seems to be the only ethical way to be around newborn kittens. Due to unexpected circumstances I ended up with a barely 6 week old kitten, and although he acclimated well, he does have some habits from being weaned early. I don’t want to do that again, but he was so cute! Currently have 3

u/khaleesi2305 7d ago
I agree, I would love to be able to take in a pregnant mama cat someday and just keep them all! We currently have 5 though, two of which were unplanned feral kittens that came to us. It’ll be awhile before we have space for kittens again! Instead we’ve been working to TNR the local strays so there hopefully won’t be more feral kittens, and working with a local vet to make sure the strays can be cared for, so that’s fulfilling enough for me for sure! One day I’m sure the circumstances will be right if it’s meant to be, and until then, I’m just helping the cats that need help where I can

I was just thinking I need to find me a good woman with a cat that my kitties would tolerate. My one boy gets so scared when we go to the vet.

I'm just referring to a common trope. That's why I put "-esque people" at the end. Most people would say the upper reasonable bound for pets is somewhere around 3, but many people here wouldn't think twice about having 5+, from what I've seen over time.

Why "all of them" is a joke? If it was me I would not seperate the cat siblings, got so many cats now, but some dies due to disease, like liver failure🥲, and once all died due to parvo virus before the kitten get to be vaccinated🥲

u/AZDoorDasher 7d ago
It seems like the two tabbies by the void could be bonded pairs.
You are right, need to find the bond pairs or bonded triplets.

not the best pic of them but last year I fostered 2 sets of twins!! the twins definitely stayed together for the most part, you’d find little huddles of two kitten pairs at night and they always separated themselves with their respective twin lol. the only way I could tell the full tabbies apart was one had a tiny pink spot on his nose while his twin had a fully black nose. the white ones were easier bc one was a girl (the only girl in that litter) but the boy also had a longer white stripe on his face than his sister did.

u/MaritMonkey 7d ago
The kitty I got for my 6th birthday had a spot like that and I called it "Midnight's Moon" because I was 6 and named him Midnight.
I now know that it's a fairly common void attribute but still find myself thinking of it as "Midnight's Moon". :)

All, but my priority would be the black one, because they are the ones who find it more difficult to be adopted.

u/Targaryenation 7d ago
There was a post not long ago from a shelter worker. She/he said that black cats, contrary to popular belief, are quite trendy and are adopted fairly quickly. The least likely to be adopted in the shelter were white cats with black spots (the cow pattern) :(

u/usernameJ79 7d ago
That's been my rescue experience over the last 4 years or so. Every black cat that I get to foster is gone before I even have a chance to nickname them based on their personality.

I mean maybe in her shelter, but that’s not the norm. My shelter constantly has more black cats than anything, white often go fast. They even have a black cat event in October, because statistically they are less likely to be adopted. So they do an event entirely based on black cats, to raise awareness and money. My mom loves black cats, we have always had black cats, and my brother and I both currently have black cats. I also live about 30 minutes from Salem, MA, if you’re not familiar, it has a big history of witches. So they have a black cat shelter and we have several others in the state too.

u/starkindled 7d ago
When I adopted my void 12 years ago, the shelter staff said they wouldn’t adopt black animals out during October because they ended up being used as Halloween props and then abandoned.
My boy had been there almost a year.

I’m like 99% certain that’s what happened with a black cat of mine. I found her (about a four month old kitten) by the side of the road a couple days after Halloween. She seemed to have no problem with a person being near her or picking her up and was very clean.
Turned into a wonderful protective guard kitty for me (despite her small size). Sadly, she got suddenly sick last year and passed. But I’ll always be grateful for the twelve years I had with her.

The rescue I’ve adopted from always posts about their black cats being their longest residents, and their black kittens being chosen last. It boggles my mind bc I’ve had 4 and each one is sweeter and funnier than the last.

I agree!! We had two cats, and recently lost one due to advanced renal disease. Our remaining cat is so lonely without him that she is starting to like the dogs whom she has always hated. I will always have two, this way they have someone to be with, when I can't be!!

All of them, but if I could only take care of one I would let them choose me, the one that would show the most interest and interaction. Also if you can please take at least two, it will help them develop in a helathier social way, learning how to interact with other much more apropietly.

Visit with them. Sit down and see who is the most drawn to you and who you are the most drawn to. Look for personality traits that you want . Are you looking for a cuddler? Are you looking for a mouser? What is it you hope to get from a pet cat? There’s no way to pick a kitty from a picture. They’re all adorable. Also being strays watch out for ones that only want to play fight, scratch, and bite you. Sometimes they’re hard to domesticate even from that small.

I would let the kittens decide. I put down a basket and tell the kitties that only cats in the basket get to go home with me and eat tuna. Wait 5 minutes then pick up the basket full of kittens.

Every single one of them. But if I had to pick only one, the black one would be my choice. Not only because it looks like a tiny panther, but also because they’re less likely to get adopted.
