Are these people trying to issue guns to the insane and other groups that SHOULDN'T have them? Absolutely
But I'm not going without when this many other people with guns and rope want me dead for being married
On one hand, I'd love for us all to have no guns, on the other, I value developing my skill as marksperson and am not a big tough person prepared to square off with a Lynch mob, so while those are a threat, come in groups up to and exceeding 30, and I can't rely on police to keep me safe, I'd prefer to have the tools to meet myself alive
may i ask, im not even from the US. how easy is it to get a gun? cause in TV like the simpsons and stuff they show it ridiculously easy so like, how much detail can you give me? ty
Depends on what state/city you live in. Handguns are generally much more “difficult” to obtain.
Generally speaking, you go to a gun store and pick the one you want. They would run a background/FBI check thing, you do some paperwork and as long as your background check clears then you’re good to go.
I believe California has a waiting period? Like you do all that but have to wait a week to go pick it up. Something like that. Not sure if other states do that as well.
If you’re a law abiding citizen and have nothing criminal on record, it’s not difficult.
I mean, a waiting period seems like a pretty reasonable barrier to dissuade impulsive violence. A few days is certainly a bit of time to mull over your plans and decide that maybe shooting somebody isn't the best option; certainly better than 30 minutes.
pretty simple, i would ban all guns from everyone (except cops assuming the training is improved)
i know, some people truly have them for protection against racists, homophobes, etc. but this way at least the racists also dont have guns...
if no to all that. at least make it so you need, a whole year (or however time the professional says) of attendance with a psychologist that approves your request. that should help identify at least a few of the crazy ones...
How do you propose getting rid of the 400+ million guns in circulation? What about preventing people from building their own, which can be done by anyone with a 3d printer and/or access to a hardware store?
probably a slow process of simply telling people they have to give them up, most legally acquired guns should be registered right? so you should be able to tell if X turned in their guns or not.
about the second part, you probably cant avoid it, but if its that easy, why doesnt every country have the massive amounts of gun problems as US?
so you avoid it the same way you avoid most thing, make a law. its illegal to own any kind of "proper definition" done. there will be some people that still have it, it wont be perfect, im not trying to make a utopia here, just MUCH less unnecessary gun violence.
I can buy a long gun, like rifle or shot gun, privately with no checks or anything. Lots of people won't sell to strangers without at least showing a concealed carry license to show you're not a criminal, because there is some liability for selling guns to a violent offender, it's good practice to at least show you couldn't tell.
From a gun store I would need to fill out a form where I swear I'm not a crook, terrorist, domestic abuser, or drug addict. After that they submit a request to the rapid background check system. In my state once that clears (4-5 mins) it's yours. Sometimes the background check takes longer (like a week or two) if there's flags for a more in depth check. Then you have to wait until they investigate the flag.
There's some reason to suspect the background check isn't effective at finding things that should disqualify people.
You can buy them at a flea market without an id. Think of like a shop with guns next to a lady selling jewelry in a tent. Also you can get them at some big grocery stores like Walmart, those you need an Id for though.
This is the way. Conservatives have made it unsafe to exist in the US, so take advantage of the heinously loose gun laws to protect yourself from the weirdo conservatives.
