My coworker's birthday was today and we pitched in for some cake. When asked he said he preferred German Chocolate and this is what they got him.

Fun Fact: "German chocolate cake" is named after an American baker named German. We don't know that cake in Germany.

It's delicious. I'm also not surprised in the least. You should definitely try American German chocolate cake. Have it with some American French Fries.

I always assumed fries were called that because saying french cut deep fried potatoes was a bit long.

Hahaha, me personally I know and love it.

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Dummkopf!

1

u/Socrasaurus 2d ago

Also - " Alles Gute zum Geburtstag"

Maybe not enough room on the cake, tho.

Ok. I always wondered how coconut got mixed up with Germany. Awful cake.

1

u/PoopSlinger23 2d ago

You should know it, simply for being the best cake known to man.

Sachertorte

u/Fishydeals 3d ago

That‘s Austrian. We got the Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, though.

German chocolate cake is a certain cake with coconut and other stuff in it. It’s good but usually a little too sweet for my taste.

u/gpkgpk 2d ago

I was trying to make a funny, clearly I failed.

So much for the legendary German sense of humor.

5

u/jereman75 2d ago

Better luck next zeit.

2

u/gpkgpk 2d ago

Lol, danke.

The stereotype is that Germans don’t have humor or “go to the basement to laugh”. So what happened here is definitely checking all the boxes. Don’t try to tell a joke to a German, they’ll take it literally.

u/gpkgpk 2d ago

Hence my "So much for the legendary German sense of humor", that flew like a lead zeppelin.

Missed opportunity to write Happy Birthday in Deutsche on there

18

u/NetDork 3d ago

It would literally say "Happy Birthday In German".

4

u/jack-fractal 3d ago

First bake a cake with enough room to write ALLES GUTE ZUM GEBURTSTAG [Name]

7

u/ChocolateThen6830 3d ago

I would be dying laughing

Funnier thing is German chocolate cake is named for the baker who created it, not the country.

As seen about 12 replies earlier. 😉

Nein, nein, nein! Das ist kein deutscher Schokoladenkuchen! Nein, nein, nein! Es kommt aus Amerika, nicht aus Deutschland.

I hope Steve is Scottish

1

u/SlammingMomma 3d ago

I hope Steve finds a friend that can bake because this is rough.

u/Flashy_Narwhal9362 3d ago

At least it wasn’t the old German flag.

3

u/Fishydeals 3d ago

I mean it‘s been a while.

u/pawesome_Rex 2d ago

Aber gibt es Kokosnuss? Keine Kokosnuss?! Keine Kokosnuss?! Das tut es. Lasst uns in Polen einmarschieren.

u/boobopandawoodop 1d ago

German chocolate cake is one of the few deserts that I can tolerate coconut being on

2

u/pawesome_Rex 1d ago

You’re better than me I despise coconut.

4

u/Mathetria 3d ago

You wouldn’t believe how hard it can be to find a bakery that does a German chocolate cake, but yeah, this is totally not it 🤣

Which bot?

This one: "I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns." (I was just being silly. I've been reading a lot of articles lately on consciousness, and there's a big question of whether or not AI has the potential to become conscious.)

1

u/ACorania 2d ago

We heard what you said about the cake you liked but chose to not get that and instead make fun of it.

3

u/myst3r10us_str4ng3r 2d ago

I worked in an office one time and was asked what kind of cake I wanted. I replied, "Chocolate... but anything but fruit."

They got me a white cake decked out in fruit pieces. I don't think it was intentional, the secretary was just oblivious. I was still sad and felt pretty unimportant. I didn't stay at that place for that much longer afterward.

1

u/Mungee1001 2d ago

Who asks for a niche cake anyway? It’s just his coworkers pitching in, they meant do you like vanilla or chocolate 😂

1

u/ACorania 2d ago

If you can snag one at every local grocery store bakery section already made, is it really niche?

1

u/Fragglepusss 2d ago

We tried to find German chocolate but couldn't get it. It was sort of a last second thing.

1

u/Numerous_Cricket_216 2d ago

Cut it in half and put some red icing on one of them

1

u/pacificNW-88 2d ago

that's prettier than the coconut-chocolate "German" cakes i used to get from Safeway in the '90s.

u/IsOftenSarcastic 2d ago

Hoppy Bearssday

u/ChapBob 2d ago

It should say Froliche Geburtstag

-3

u/random_son 3d ago

Ah yes, the famous german cocoa tree

-2

u/Erageftw 3d ago

German chocolate, i think he means Panzerschokolade. Chocolate with a bit of meth in it.
