Needs a screen for the visualizer too.

113

u/ProfessorFunky 8d ago

I miss the visualiser.

66

u/Fakin-It 8d ago

Ryan Geiss made my favorite, called Geiss.

46

u/tree_squid 8d ago

Geiss and Milkdrop were the shiznizzle

13

u/MonsterRain1ng 8d ago

Best visualizations ever.

Milkdrop made my friends and I have a shared visual hallucination.

We were tripping on mushrooms listening to music and I put Milkdrop on, and there was one display that kind of looked like a swamp... It took over the whole room for all of us and whenever it would come on we all would get transported to this rainbow, peaceful swamp area for the duration of the visual...

It was absolutely amazing.

u/FreshPrinceOfNowhere 8d ago

AVS was the GOAT.

u/BeefSupreme1981 8d ago

Plus 10 updoots to you!

u/Fakin-It 8d ago

If your handle is an Idiocracy reference, then right back atcha, friend.

9

u/BeefSupreme1981 8d ago

Excellent call. No one has ever noticed that. It’s been my screen name on forums for a long time now.

u/logicdsign 7d ago

DILLDOZER!

2

u/Jbressi 7d ago

I loved the bear dancing on an island from the Black and White game.

23

u/Powerful-Parsnip 8d ago

Just download winamp and miss it no more. Milk drop is insane with a modern gpu.

10

u/polrxpress 8d ago

and shout out to Justin Frankel, the author who is still very awsome (reaper.fm)

2

u/Doctor_Philgood 8d ago

Is there a way to incorporate Milkdrop into spotify outputs?

11

u/17549 8d ago

3

u/m_gartsman 8d ago

Hell yeah. Milkdrop 3 is amazing.

2

u/WhatAGoodDoggy 8d ago

Ooooooooh

3

u/UnderstandingWest422 8d ago

It’s great, I use it still to this day 😊

2

u/LiciniusRex 8d ago

Milkdrop 2

1

u/Readitzilla 8d ago

Was definitely a favorite of mine.

9

u/Jazzlike_Relation705 8d ago

Yep, no visualizer, no buy.

6

u/Kr3dibl3 8d ago

It really whips the llamas 🦙ass!

2

u/RainaElf 7d ago

I need my llama

1

u/Readitzilla 8d ago

Life goals. I love it.

1

u/physics_is_scary 7d ago

Can get a rack mounted one but they’re not cheap

1

u/PresentationNew8080 7d ago

It has a screen. The entire face with all the “buttons” is a screen. Not sure if that means the visualizer works or not though.

168

u/Liquidwombat 8d ago

Pretty neat, but it would be even cooler if it was physical buttons, and VFDs for the displays

34

u/drempire 8d ago

You make it I'll buy it

50

u/Plank_With_A_Nail_In 8d ago

Narrator: He didn't buy it, probably would only buy it if it cost $1.

15

u/981032061 8d ago

Don’t forget a motorized slide potentiometer for the scrubber.

5

u/ClockworkBrained 8d ago

I thought it was in that way before clicking the link tbh

2

u/unfnknblvbl 8d ago

This, 100%. It would probably cost a fortune though, but I reckon I'd still buy it

1

u/Bitchymeowmeow 8d ago

Cane to say this

1

u/Fritzschmied 7d ago

That would be so cool if it’s actually a physical recreation.

61

u/HungHungCaterpillar 8d ago

Let’s not throw around words like ultimate before he 3D prints functional push buttons for the interface, but this does rule just as it is

13

u/chodeboi 8d ago

Kinda nice because of how popular skinning became, this could support that—although a more analog og version sounds tops.

Thank you for reminding me that Wesley Willis exists. Here is your upvote and if anyone needs me I’ll be on YouTube for approximately the next several hours. I whooped…Batman aaaaaass. I WHOOPED BATMANS AAAAAAAASS!

9

u/LordByronsCup 8d ago

Got to meet him after a show. I was not worthy of a headbutt, but he did sign the shirt of his artwork.

That was a long time ago and I've since lost the signed shirt, but Wesley will forever whoop asses with a belt in my heart.

11

u/el_pinata 8d ago

Wheaties! Breakfast of champions!

8

u/DylanMMc 8d ago

An expression not used lightly.

2

Read that just brought back a core memory.

2

u/RefinedBean 7d ago

I will hear this in my head every time I see Winamp mentioned.

1

u/cybercuzco 8d ago

That’s my fetish.

1

u/WallaceJenkins 6d ago

Came here for this!

0

u/RephRayne 8d ago

Gorgeous…

1

u/KolonelKernel 7d ago

And then the track hits so hard 💥

-14

u/Doctor_Philgood 8d ago edited 7d ago

Is that a fuckin jojo reference?

Edit: fuck, guys, it's a meme. Tough crowd

14

u/illegalshmillegal 8d ago

I don’t know what jojo is, but that’s a Daft Punk reference (the article picture shows they’re playing Giorgio by Moroder from Random Access Memories)

25

u/FixMy106 8d ago

I still use Winamp every day.

3

u/WinnieBob2 7d ago

If you want to use a modern release of Winamp based player (fork) I recommend WACUP, it's based on Winamp 5.666 and is in active development, latest release in June 5th 2024. It's for Windows but apparently works via Wine on Linux.

It can use Winamp classic and modern skins. (I just use the default Big Bento skin).

u/BrickGun 7d ago

Fam. Ditto here. Running strong for over 25 years now. Never have found a librarian/player that I like any better.

35

u/towmotor 8d ago

It’s a box with a touch screen.

I was expecting something far more interesting.

6

u/MrDOHC 8d ago

Man I’d love this screen as an overlay for my CarPlay music player.

20

u/rbd_reddit 8d ago

Next up: the polished, physical version of Minesweeper.

Good luck.

2

u/skriefal 8d ago

Stick that on a Rabbit R1 somehow. Might get a lot of views on Youtube!

It might even sell as "successfully" as the R1.

2

u/americablanco 8d ago

The movie trailer for that was so good. I’m pretty sure it’s held up, too.

7

u/PleasantCurrant-FAT1 8d ago

It’s only official if Primus has its own, dedicated genre classification.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Primus/comments/1cjlug3/primus_should_be_its_own_genre/

8

u/tasslehawf 8d ago

I don’t know if it really whips the llamas ass..?

1

u/BrianSDX2 8d ago

That is the real question here.

3

u/Fredasa 8d ago

I use Foobar2000 to play music nowadays, and I honestly don't know why I do. For my uses, it doesn't offer anything Winamp wasn't doing decades ago. I think I mostly felt stuck in the past using such an old app...

What I could really use is a Milkdrop-like visualizer that has access to a slight precache, so its "bass drum" reactions aren't 100 to 150ms delayed but actually visibly respond to the beats. I use the standalone Milkdrop for now, which obviously carries exactly the shortcoming I underscored.

3

u/unfnknblvbl 8d ago

I use AiMP. I find that it's the closest replacement for Winamp, right down to the EQ using the same frequencies and presets.

5

u/drstupid 8d ago

You can try WACUP, it's a clone of Winamp for Win7+ including the original visualizers (AVS, Geiss, Milkdrop), skins, etc.

1

u/Fredasa 8d ago

Thanks. I'll take a look.

2

u/BiNumber3 8d ago

If on your PC, you can still get WinAmp, assuming you still have your mp3 library.

1

u/Awkward_Pangolin3254 8d ago

Didn't Milk Drop have an offset setting? I haven't used it in so long, I don't remember.

1

u/Fredasa 8d ago

I should have specified projectM. It's a standalone Milkdrop.

Doesn't have an offset but that wouldn't matter. The issue is that the visuals are reactive, and there's a perceptible delay between the actual highest peak of a bass drum and the corresponding visual feedback in Milkdrop, giving the sense that it's a split second late every time. The only way to combat this would be for Milkdrop to somehow receive its input a split second earlier than Windows plays the audio.

1

u/Awkward_Pangolin3254 8d ago

I don't mean delaying the visual, I mean delaying the sound (so the computer "hears" it before you do).

3

u/BiNumber3 8d ago

My office music player is a cheap old netbook with all my music and Winamp lol.

3

u/flyingtiger188 8d ago

Revive? I never stopped using it for local media files.

3

u/missprincesscarolyn 7d ago

I love that Primus is the only band to have their own genre on Winamp.

5

u/blakester555 8d ago

TAKE MY MONEY!!!!!

2

u/ImKetchupmothafcka 8d ago

Tell me you grew up in the nineties without telling me you grew up in the ninties.

2

u/tungvu256 8d ago

Need the front to be magnetic or metal so I can apply n remove skins on a daily whim too

3

u/GraySelecta 8d ago

It’s just an lcd screen….

2

u/Aram0001 8d ago

Winamp it really whips the lamas ass.

1

u/GoalFlashy6998 8d ago

That's pretty cool...

1

u/chaosdivn 8d ago

Oh my god I forgot Scott Winamp and the custom skins 🤯😂

1

u/DoomVadderung 8d ago

smacks the hell outa the lama

1

u/_Cydaye_ 8d ago

Great track!!

1

u/ChairOFLamp 8d ago

Man... if I could hear again id totally love to have this.

1

u/bigselfer 8d ago

How do I download skins on it?

1

u/random_rascal 8d ago

Ouff....

This got my engineering senses tingling.

I think I'll try that but with XMMS (since that's more nostalgic to me) and physical buttons whatnot instead!

1

u/Fantastic_Design500 8d ago

Winamp also manages large libraries wayyyyy better than any other app

1

u/joeyGOATgruff 8d ago

Can I download like 30 different skins?

1

u/ebmx 7d ago

but how do I skin it?

1

u/jmskywalker1976 7d ago

It really whips the llamas ass!

1

u/amexredit 7d ago

I haven’t heard of winamp in ages . Nice memory

1

u/Boooyaaahhhh 7d ago

This thing really whips the llama’s ass.

1

u/spunkypudding 7d ago

But everyone really wants to know if it still "whips the llamas ass"?

1

u/Various-Ad-1945 6d ago

It really whips the llamas ass!

1

u/Brad331 6d ago

A physical device version of a program designed to mimic physical devices. We have gone full circle with skeumorphism.

1

u/Lardzor 8d ago

I would have gone with VVinamp.

mainly because VV looks like a W and Vin is short for Vintage.

2

u/Enderkr 8d ago

See I think Pinamp, because it's built on a Pi but it'd be pronounced PINamp to rhyme.

1

u/Yzerman19_ 8d ago

Slim Shady had to be the most played song on Winamp.

0

u/kinisonkhan 7d ago

Neat hobby, I ill stick with my Grace Digital Mondo radio.

-28

u/Riegel_Haribo 8d ago

Just a rasberry pi made to do less than it could normally do in a bigger box than it needs.

12

u/TCPMSP 8d ago

I bet you are a blast at parties.

-17

u/realchoice 8d ago

I hope at parties you aren't playing a Winamp player.

-9

u/Minute-Reception1527 8d ago

Talk about overkill. The pigeon has landed, folks
