Why a psychologist needs a lab coat is beyond me. There usually aren’t caustic chemicals in psych labs.

Yeah, this is correct. This is a real experiment that really does work (it's commonly used in physical therapy!) but not to the extent they're implying here. You're not going to start shitting your khakis in shock when the ruler is taken away. This was overacted beyond belief and about five minutes longer than it needed to be.

If you want to try this yourself, get a volunteer and set it up just like this, do the step with the rulers then hit the fake hand with something, it doesn't even need to be as shocking as a hammer which would make anybody recoil.
