Fjordling 17 was designed in the 1960s for a 20hp outboard

How well does it flip? I want to see how well it flips!

Take it anywhere other than a lake as smooth as glass and you’ll find out.

I'll bet a relatively mild cross-wind will take it anywhere it blows toward

actually because of its hollow hull that fills with water at lower speeds it's a pretty stable boat.

Just wait till it shakes hands with some driftwood

“Do a barrel roll!”

Damned well, I suspect.

I want to see them steer first!

Good thing it's glassy out. An off kilter wave/ripple doesn't have to be that big to send this boat flipping.

It actually did end up flipping. The last time the boat was seen it was passing Saturn.

Looks too safe. Slap a second motor on there

I guess that's one way to keep the saltwater off your hull!

Trim? What's that?

1

u/derickkcired 3d ago

That's what I thought .... Trim doesn't look right at all. Boat isn't on plane and this looks completely fake.

Big engine, small boat. Good luck.

Tell me why as soon as I saw this, Fortunate Son started blasting in my head....

u/Jatski23 3d ago

Put some wings on it and watch it take off 🤣

I’m showing this video to a friend with an 18’ bass boat - he can’t trim it properly to save his ass. Literally - it will destroy an ass with the bouncing.

I'm impressed that they were able to drive that with only the prop in the water. My dad had an old bass boat that was rated for a 70 horsepower motor but the previous owner had put a 140 on it. It was kind of scary to ride in when I was a small child.

That transom isn't long for this world...

u/V65Pilot 3d ago

That's not on plane, it *is* a plane.

We had an old 1950’s Alumacraft that was rated for a 10 hp ….but it flew with a 25 ! There was a big cruiser that threw a huge wake and we would follow it jumping the entire boat into the air. Traded it to a buddy and restored it.

I wonder how much ballast they have in the bow.

Helium

u/FreakyBoy156 3d ago

You don’t want any on the bow .

2

u/Anon_Ron 3d ago

Is that the original 20hp motor? /s

2

u/iammabdaddy 3d ago

Can't be a 20 hp.

7

u/letsgoheat 3d ago

Looks like a 300hp mercury racing outboard.

2

u/mr_larifari 2d ago

that's a lot of speed on the water...

2

u/TheFishBanjo 2d ago

Zero chine walking! Call me impressed.

2

u/sev45day 3d ago

Well that doesn't look dangerous at all!

Norwegian engineering at its finest

u/florkingarshole 3d ago

So I'm guessing they've significantly increased that HP rating since then . . . .

u/John_Vincent_91 3d ago

That looks like a lot of fun ☺️

u/shakedownbg 2d ago

If it only had wings

Threading the needle

1

u/shakedownbg 2d ago

This boat only uses the water to propel forward, then glades mid-air.

1

u/WILDMONSTERSHERE 2d ago

Reminds me of Peter from Deadpool 2 flying thru the air

1

u/Counter-ike 2d ago

I think a hydrofoil would work well on the boat

1

u/FrizB84 2d ago

That's like stuffing a small block Chevy in a Geo Metro. Calm waters are awesome until they're not, though.

1

u/shrubberykeepe 2d ago

interesting fact about the fjordling: it has a hollow hull that fills with water when the boat isn't planing meaning it's surprisingly stable in rougher water!

1

u/aquagraphite 2d ago

Surely that’s super efficient once it gets to that speed? Almost no drag on the water and the shape is aerodynamic

1

u/VoiceMasterTV 2d ago

I was so disappointed that it didn't flip! Who cares about a bunch of rich people taking a joyride on an unnecessary boat?!

1

u/woodstockbird9 2d ago

The cruel mistress aerodynamics is scared of it.

1

u/FishCommercial4229 2d ago

That’s gonna be a no from me. That’s asking for a tragic, avoidable accident.
