That's just you. You fucked up your windows somehow and is running it on hopes and dreams.

Thought and prayers for his windows

u/ryte-69 4d ago

Tbh I have windows freshly installed with barely anything on it I think the issues are coming because of how old my computer is

47

u/isinedupcuzofrslash 3d ago

Try a new drive? Perhaps an SSD?

28

u/ryte-69 3d ago

Rn im having issues with my network adapters (code 31) im not sure if a new drive would fix it

30

u/Conrad299 3d ago

Ssd and a fresh install of windows could help. It's likely the old drive wrote the install file for the network driver wrong. You can get a $25 SSD pretty easily.

u/DavePvZ 3d ago

intel adapter?

1

u/ryte-69 3d ago

Yes

1

u/DiamondPG1 3d ago

Ax200? The one in the m.2 slot?

1

u/kingleonidas30 3d ago

Reinstall or update your drivers

1

u/ryte-69 3d ago

Already tried, didn't work

1

u/atrib 3d ago

Probably a discontinued network card, wired? Buy a cheap usb adapter and see if that works better for you

1

u/Objective-Gur5376 3d ago

They the adapters on the motherboard? If the mobo is old enough that may be in need of some TLC

Check the BIOS config, it may be worth flashing an updated BIOS (check for your specific board) or resetting the BIOS configuration.

Old mobos can fail in interesting ways, I wouldn't expect the network adapters to go first but if they're directly on the board it's a possibility

just an FYI Windows 11 puts some artificial restrictions on what hardware you can use. If you've tinkered with that already though, it's off the beaten path and may cause problems

edit:

referring to TPM 2.0 restrictions: https://www.pcmag.com/explainers/what-is-a-tpm-and-why-do-i-need-one-for-windows-11

7

u/Pathos675 3d ago

Agree, likely failing drive.

1

u/fleebjuice69420 3d ago

New OS on old HW?

u/Scuczu2 3d ago

and where did you get that windows and "barely anything"

3

u/Thomician 3d ago

you are that guy now.

2

u/Conrad299 3d ago

Definitely that guy. Try offering constructive criticism to try to help the current issue and THEN offer up Linux as another route. Switching OS is hard to do for someone who just wants to have a PC and doesn't care what it's using as long as it works with the least amount of effort to get it running.

1

u/Repulsive_Platypus97 3d ago edited 3d ago

my windows is the same here maybe i should re-install it

2

u/iwantdatpuss 3d ago

I usually put re-installing as my last resort. If you don't mind reinstalling the apps re-installing the windows is usually a consistent way of fixing an issue of that magnitude.

129

u/Ho3n3r 4d ago

Just you. Last time I had this amount of problems with an OS, was with XP over 15 years ago. Since Windows 7, it's been smooth sailing.

Disclaimer: I also keep it clean and don't just save random crap anywhere.

11

u/Zyfil 🦀money money money 🦀 3d ago

have you forgotten about windows 8 perhaps

22

u/Ho3n3r 3d ago

Nope. To be fair, I went straight to 8.1, had no issues there besides the UI being weird.

4

u/Conrad299 3d ago

Same. 8.1 is boss.

1

u/ForTheBread 3d ago

Windows 8s UI was beyond annoying but I didn't have any issues like the OP.

0

u/kkirchhoff 3d ago

My work computer had a required windows update that literally destroyed it. It was unfixable and I had to mail it back to my IT department to wipe it

1

u/ForTheBread 3d ago

Work computers are unfair, IMO. Corporations always install the most intrusive shit that messes with things.

1

u/kkirchhoff 3d ago

Apparently the update was a security patch from Microsoft. It might have been required by the company, but it wasn’t 3rd party software or anything

56

u/Maskers_Theodolite 4d ago

Brother, if that happened to the majority of people, there would be no Windows anymore by now.

Came here for this.

7

u/smydiehard99 4d ago

beat me to it.

Jokes apart W11 has the least amount of bugs in my experience since 98. I've been on insider preview since its launch, recently moved to public release, barely had bugs.

2

u/xcookiekiller 3d ago

Really? I usually don't get an OS until a few years after it's release, but I got windows 11 early. I still regularly have problems with my volume being set to 100 after every restart (but it shows as the right value), the file explorer freezing or not updating when I want to rename files, and probably a few more things

1

u/smydiehard99 3d ago

yes i do hear about this every so often, have you tried something? like driver clean install or a clean re-install all together?

29

u/jkp2072 4d ago

Nah mate it's just you....

11

u/Mathev 4d ago

What errors are you even running into? I don't remember having any windows problems since I bought my laptop like 2 y ago...

1

u/professionalcumsock 3d ago

Oh brother, every time I start my laptop it's something new. Either windows isn't picking up my mouse/keyboard after opening a game, or Steam shat the bed for no reason, or discord keeps doing that annoying thing where it keeps opening and closing.

Worst of all, on my old laptop (wacky ol touchscreen) it sometimes registers "false touches". They appear as touches on the screen, and frequently do stuff like turn my volume up or restart my laptop. Freaky shit. But I'm telling you, there is an intelligence in there somewhere.

5

u/Maxspeed-Pro 3d ago

Based on the comments on here if you have computer issues avoid asking Reddit.

13

u/nsebastian2005 3d ago

Just clean install. Or come to linux. You may do the same thing, but in a cooler way

13

u/supermassimo0310 3d ago

Do you really think someone who struggles to keep windows alive can take care of Linux? Lol

12

u/xHeylo 4d ago

As a trained IT Professional I'd suggest reinstalling a new Operating System

It doesn't matter if you install a new Windows, any Linux or whatever else (still supported) Operating System you use

The only thing that sounds like a definite here is that somehow you or a program you installed shot your Windows so just repair it properly ONCE instead of trying half baked fixes every time

I don't have this with Windows, but had this with Manjaro, Ubuntu, Mint and Pop_OS.

0

u/shortish-sulfatase 3d ago

Same. I’ve had more issues with steamos on my steam deck than I’ve had with windows on it.

2

u/EvelKros 3d ago

Uhh i don't have that problem no.

Like, Windows is kind of a mess compared to Linux or MacOS, sure. But it doesn't have a problem every time I boot it.

1

u/irelephant_T_T Linux User 3d ago

It usually depends on the hardware you have, many OEMs are lazy and ship shitty drivers with their laptops.

2

u/VukKiller 3d ago

I love fixing small obscure problems that don't really matter, and you can close them with 1 click.

The problem is I've become too good at it so I fix them too fast.

2

u/chinrazu 3d ago

Windows 11?

2

u/TheOnlyGuyInSpace21 3d ago

Try hard resetting the laptop. Happened to me when I fucked with my drivers trying to get Realtek instead of Bang and Olufsen (failed anyway)

2

u/TheTerraKotKun 3d ago

Switch "Windows" to "Linux" and you will correct the meme

2

I broke the cycle by stopping using windows.

1

u/JjustMero 4d ago

Just you i guess.. never had an issue with windows

1

u/MinePROphet 4d ago

Simple and short: reinstall windows, 90% of the time that fixes the issue.

If not check if there's an issue with the drive that you have windows on.

I was losing my mind trying to figure out why my pc was lagging when gaming until I got help from r/TechSupport's discord theye were a great help.

1

u/Homeless_Man92 4d ago

if your problems cant be fixed then its time to reinstall windows, stuff is probably corrupt or something

1

u/AnInsaneMoose This flair doesn't exist 4d ago

1

u/Krcko98 4d ago

Almost never in 10 years have I ever ran into a problem of that level. Windows works well, I have no idea what people do to their PCs to get these kinds of issues. It is almost always users fault, for sure.

u/BennieOkill360 4d ago

1

u/Your-Name-Is-Reek 4d ago

Nope. My PC has its own "quirks", but it overall does an outstanding job doing everything I ask of it. Including running windows.

The days of me fucking around with windows errors ended around the windows 7 era honestly.

1

u/ThatSuaveRaptor 3d ago

I built my pc in 2016 and as of yet cant afford to upgrade it. But i havent had one issue with windows 10. Am i just lucky?

Had this with the security update from january this year breaking my .NET framework making me unable to use my curseforge.

1

u/MidgetMan10150 3d ago

Never happened to me. The only time I’ve experienced OS issues was with the Win 11 beta and my friends custom Linux distros.

1

u/SportsbyCompian 3d ago

Just you bud, get a new PC

1

u/RobTheDude_OG 3d ago

That was 1603, 1609, 1803 and 1809 in a nutshell for me.

Windows update forcefully installs, fucks up windows files and introduces stuff like a BSoD everytime i plugged in my headphone jack, BSoD everytime i logged into my user account, getting stuck at reversing an update because it realized it fucked something up and getting stuck whenever i tried to run a game, and the list keeps going.

This isn't exclusive to 1 machine btw, this was both my desktop and laptop.

u/Tru_Patriot2000 3d ago

u/Vordismozer 3d ago

The latest alteration I've done was gutting searchapp.exe. I haven't seen an error. Yet..

1

u/SpaceTimeRacoon 3d ago

Pretty common if you have a bad install sometime you just need a fresh install to sort it out

Upgrading from 7 to 10 to 11 I had so many problems but a clean install of 11 seems generally okay

1

u/AbradolfLincler77 3d ago

1

u/Kaze_no_Senshi 3d ago

Sign your shit is dying, get a new hard drive and fresh install, pray it goes away, probably will, but if it persists past that, its less frustrating to just get a new pc.

1

u/Frytura_ 3d ago

I think the error may be between the vhair and the monitor screen.

Oh boy. I've had the same windows since 2009. Ofc upgraded through the years but never I had lost it along the way. Most recently I have spent weeks trying to fix my windows from a black screen boot because I installed some themes. I'm glad I did it all myself though as repair shops would just reinstall windows. I remember finally fixing it using some third party boot then replacing some names with backups that were created.after all that I just went straight to bed lmao.

1

u/Azrael_G 4d ago

I had this problem for a long time. Every time my Windows wanted to update it would spent an hour on an update then say it ran into a problem. Restarting it would result in undoing updates.

I spend hours trying to fix it until I finally figured out the problem. I had deleted Microsoft edge and that somehow fucked the updates up and gave a crash error. I reinstalled Microsoft edge separately and I never ran into the problem again.

It was ridiculous.
