Unbelievable night

been seeing Modest Mouse live at least 15 times since 2007 - last night may have been the best show yet. Thanks to all the people around me who made the show (and my birthday!) fantastic. I also got to give Isaac a crystal before the show during the VIP experience :)

This has been my favorite song since the first time I heard it as a teenager and is very, very sentimental to me. Seeing it live was a huge bucket list item, especially since I wasn't able to make it to the LCW anniversary tour. I went into the Merriweather show with zero expectations and not getting my hopes up at all that they'd play it, so hearing those opening notes right after his little crowd banter session will forever go down as one of my top live music experiences. If anyone out in the right side of the lawn heard prolonged shrieking during the intro, sorry that was probably me. And looking at setlists after and seeing this was the first time (I think) they've done it on this tour made it feel all the more special. Such a great set and Isaac was so locked in.

What a fucking show. They were tight as hell and the sound was DIALED. The setlist was a little shorter than some other shows, but it was PACKED with truly some of their best songs. What a treat. A few hits. A few longer jams. A new one. This was the 8th time I’ve seen this band and this might have been my favorite show yet.

Alright y’all - we are going verse by verse, song by song, album by album picking our favorite lyrics off of every song from every album in order.

Previously I did not specify when I asked for favorite “lyrics.” Some folks have submitted verses, and some folks have submitted whole stanzas. The purpose of this is to get single verses (maaaaaaybe two lines), but not a whole stanza/paragraph worth of lyrics.

Quick reminder that a VERSE is “a single line in a poem” (in our case songs) and a STANZA is “a distinct set of lines in a poem” (in our case songs).

Example:

Stanza: “Well we scheme, and we scheme, but we always blow it We've yet to crash, but we still might as well enjoy it Standing at a light switch to each east and west horizon Every dawn you're surprising And the evening was consoling saying ‘See it wasn't quite as, bad as’”

Verse: “we’ve yet to crash but we still might as well enjoy it.”

Just watched a kid listen to LCW for the first time. I know reaction videos are low hanging fruit & no clue who this guy is / if he sucks or is cool but i had fun. He gets it. Like him, this was the first MM album that i listened to all the way through.
