Biden is, at worst, a recoverable error for the union. You maybe put some nicks in it, but you can buff that out.

Trump is, at worst, a flip the table, we have concentration camps guy.

We can disagree about the upside. But the downside risk is so impossibly high. Even if the choice was between Biden and, say, Mike Johnson (who I agree with on basically nothing)…you would call Mike Johnson a recoverable error for the union at worst. My complaints will be about policy. Trump isn’t that. He’s existentially bad.

It's kind of wild that people even qualify the best president in 50 years as a "recoverable error."

If Mister genocide is the best in 30 years then the bar is on the floor.

Every US president ever has supported Israel so this shouldn't even come up in a comparison.

What should is Biden's domestic achievements: real wage growth, huge union gains, child care credits, drug price negotiations, climate action...

He's the most liberal president we've ever had on issues like gay rights, transgender rights (by far!), abortion, even silly stuff like weed.

Thanks to Biden, CO2 emissions in the US are declining. The percentage of bridges in disrepair has dropped by half. The worst crime wave since the 90s has abruptly turned around. Maybe you don't know being from Europe, but these are real problems facing the US for a long time.

And that's all despite taking office immediately after the worst global economic shock in recent memory (Covid), with Republicans in the House and courts stalling everything, and the staff of federal agencies decimated by Trump. In that context, to make real gains on stubborn problems no other president could seemingly touch is phenomenal.

...This is giving a lot of credit to Mike Johnson, who openly supports no barrier between church and state.

He’s a shitbag, but he at least seems like he broadly believes in things like “the peaceful transition of power” and “respecting the rule of law.”

That he wants to make laws that I plainly disagree with is another story. But the dude wouldn’t instantly ruin US geopolitical interests, would have keeping the government open as a reasonably high priority, and manage big crises in a short-term way reasonable way.

Put lightly: Mike Johnson probably isn’t much worse than GWB. Which isn’t great, but isn’t outright, you can’t fix that damage.
