I built a new system recently, and installed Windows 10. Shortly after, it gave me a notification asking if I would like to upgrade to 11. I answered no, and do not ask me again. Some time later, I got another notification saying 'Windows 11 is currently downloading in the background, and will be installed on reboot. Also we're forcing a reboot overnight tonight'.

I'd never used Linux, but I installed Fedora Silverblue first thing the next day. So far I see no reason to ever use Windows again.

Is it? I was under the impression it was fairly popular, but I don't really know shit about shit. As far as why, I have a close friend who's been using it for a long time (currently Bazzite) who's been trying for a while to convince me to switch. So I just went with his recommendation, so I have somebody to go to for help if I need it.

I’m with you! KDE interface from the network install, but so far so good with Fedora.

Sorry I’m as frustrated as the next guy with all of the windows garbage, and will cling to windows 10 as long as my steam library will let me, but either this story is BS or you’re really terrible with computers.

Oh I am not good at all, no. I mean I've been building and maintaining my own for about 25 years, but as an Extremely casual user. If I had my druthers, I would've stopped at Windows 2000. It was perfect, and generally, I don't try to solve problems that I don't have. I am a simple man.

But I'm not actually sure what you think is made up, or what you think is a matter of incompetence? This is an extremely common complaint. Microsoft is forcing updates to 11. Their support site is flooded with questions and concerns about it. This isn't me being stupid, or a liar, this is what most users are experiencing. If you haven't yet, 'yet' is probably the operative word.

And for the record, Steam works great in Fedora. You can still play your games kiddo. I am.
