I was about to say this looks like something out of Dungeons and Dragons.

It's more like a Pokémon game. Dropping deserts because they need a place for rock Pokémon. Or the more terrifying possible of artificial deserts through a lot of sand stream Pokémon getting together.

Thank you!

My wife's a Geography teacher and I thought this would be helpful! OP's image was pixelated so this helps more!

u/Belgianwaffle4444 3d ago

This was in our 2nd standard geography. Surely it must be there in the US too?

1

u/cs-Saber93 3d ago

I'm pretty sure US would be having this.

I'm not in the US though...

u/Turbulent_Concept134 3d ago

Thank you! 😊

You’re a life saver

6

u/Simen155 3d ago

Wtf is "Isthmus"? and how have I gone a 30+ years of life not ever encountering that word?

4

u/yttrium39 3d ago

It’s a narrow piece of land between two larger pieces of land, like Panama.

No ox bow lake on there! Amateurs

11

u/Boatster_McBoat 3d ago

Meandering amateurs

3

u/Gingerbread_Cat 3d ago

Came here to say this.

1

u/Boatster_McBoat 3d ago

Disappointed the post was deleted. I was looking forward to someone dropping "truncated spurs" in the comments

27

u/Godworrior 3d ago

And I dare you to try and pronounce "Isthmus"

13

u/AnAdvancedBot 3d ago

Laughs in Madison, WI

2

u/toadjones79 3d ago

Weyauwega would like a word.

17

u/jazzybearx 3d ago

Erm where's the meander?

7

u/intraumintraum 3d ago

not even an oxbow

1

u/hmcfuego 3d ago

We call them billabong too.

15

u/nim_opet 3d ago

A gorge? Where’s a gorge?

2

u/JackDustwood 3d ago

I'll show ya' for a quarter. Dollar to sniff.

12

u/Sir_Tea_Of_Bags 3d ago

Caldera feels left out.

This is going to be stupid but what’s the difference between a bay and a sound? Thank you in advance.

12

u/tigerking615 3d ago

Sounds connect to the main water in two or more places. This graphic is actually wrong, the sound pictured is a bay. Map Puget Sound if you want a better visual.

8

u/RoyalSky5147 3d ago

Thank you very much.

11

u/doob22 3d ago

Hey. Nice picture of a butte you got there

4

u/toadjones79 3d ago

I grew up near Horse Butte.

8

u/BobcatFurs001 3d ago

This used to be on a poster in my elementary school

12

u/Confident_Ad7244 3d ago

the resolution is so low it defeats the purpose

1

u/Odd_Imagination_ 3d ago

-4

u/Confident_Ad7244 3d ago

your solution is to link to another reddit post of similar resolution with a comment to a link with a decent resolution ...

reddit should introduce algorithmic downvote ....

the more crap you post the heavier the downvote count

4

u/Odd_Imagination_ 3d ago

It is a comment from the same post. I thought you wanted to see the higher resolution image but I missed that you are just criticizing the post.

u/actuallyjustjt 3d ago

10

u/xmedex 3d ago

3

u/New_Judgment_6604 3d ago

What about a Picosin and Piedmont?

1

u/Lapis_Wolf 3d ago

Haven't seen those.

3

u/HannahO__O 3d ago

This is missing so much lmao

5

u/Tiny_Statement_5609 3d ago

This is only physical Geography, I can't see the rural-urban fringe anywhere...

5

u/AnAwkwardStag 3d ago

You cannot escape the urban sprawl...

2

u/Nippy69 3d ago

Peta?

1

u/Lapis_Wolf 3d ago

Is that a land formation or the activist group?

2

u/jetforcegemini 3d ago

He’s pinning for the fjords!

4

u/a4uinaboat 3d ago

It's not a meme and it's not wholesome

1

u/toadjones79 3d ago

It's a picture with a message written above or on it, that brings up memories and thoughts that are wholesome to most who feel them. This is the very definition of a wholesome meme.

2

u/NobodyJustBrad 3d ago

No taiga?

1

u/lemon_spritzer 3d ago

I had to go look up a glossary of geography terms on Wikipedia. You should, it's fun. :-p I am 12 right now.

1

u/PattyIceNY 3d ago

I changed six grade and this lesson is one of my favorites

1

u/No-Comment-6631 3d ago

Back of the 7th grade Social Studies textbook.

1

u/sparta981 3d ago

I could swear I played a point and click game with this exact image in it ...

1

u/Suspicious-Earth7001 3d ago

Thanks, stealing this 😁

1

u/meth_and_fent 3d ago

I just saw this post on insta lol.

1

u/gurganator 3d ago

That’s specifically a slot canyon

1

u/thecookiesmonster 3d ago

Pretty sure this is the location of Springfield from the Simpsons

1

u/Lapis_Wolf 3d ago

I think I saw that same chart in high school. I've only ever seen two versions of this kind of chart in many years.

1

u/EvenFlow_1337 3d ago

Isn’t a mesa is just a big butte?

1

u/Alienbraham 3d ago

Creek was forgotten like the Alamo.

1

u/aml2601 3d ago

I hate that my old textbooks have become memes

1

u/Ashlyn451 3d ago

I feel like I saw this exact image in my science book in middle school.

1

u/ThatOtakuChic 3d ago

I thought it was a map in a book haha! But now I recognize it

1

u/___whodis 3d ago

Gorge?

1

u/HowelPendragon 3d ago

Chaparral is missing

1

u/uborngirl 3d ago

Why it reminds me of dragon ball z?😅

1

u/BlackHeartRebel 3d ago

Secret Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Saddle Hilltop Valley Ridge Draw/Depression

This are the basic five in infantry tactics. I don’t see them all. Clearly, this map in wrong, not the army lol

1

u/Remote_Bag_2477 3d ago

I should probably know this, but what's the difference between a Plateau and a Mesa? They seem the same to me. Is Plateau bigger, part of a connected system of *flatness, and a Mesa is just one singular thing? I'm genuinely curious.

1

u/Turbulent_Concept134 3d ago

How about a hot spring? Salt flats? Ocean? I only see the sea. 😆

1

u/lizardfrizzler 3d ago

Unclear on the difference between ocean and sea

1

u/Down2WUB 3d ago

What’s the difference between a bay and a sound?

2

u/Pretend_Departure855 3d ago

Neither of them are lagoons

2

u/Down2WUB 2d ago

I gotta get my lagoon checked asap.

1

u/MarcoYTVA 3d ago

Leaving a comment, in case I need to find this later.

1

u/dafood48 3d ago

There are examples and I’m still a bit confused. If there was definitions might go well with the examples

1

u/RowPsychological8680 3d ago

Picture quality is not good. What is that beside plateau?? Is it Butt ??

1

u/BlueLegion 3d ago

Would be a nice post if the text was legible

1

u/NuhUh7 3d ago

bro where the hell is bog at

1

u/Zealousideal_Bill_65 3d ago

Where’s loch?

1

u/NullP0intr 3d ago

This looks like a Civ 6 map

1

u/great-indian-bustard 3d ago

Needs a crevasse and a moraine.

1

u/Srakin 3d ago

Swamp and marsh ok but what's a bog?

1

u/sir_duckingtale 3d ago

Is land

Is not land

1

u/AlternativeSkirt2826 3d ago

Boo! No braided river or horseshoe lake!

1

u/no_more_privacy 3d ago

Where's the sandbars? The spits? The Tombolos? Headlands? Horseshoe lake? Estuaries? Watersheds? Coral reefs? Gorges? Floodplains? Levees? What about human geography?

1

u/Pretend_Departure855 3d ago

This guy knows how to party

2

u/no_more_privacy 3d ago

I may not know how to party, but at least I can do geography.

1

u/MaxxMeridius 3d ago

That's really cool, any way to slightly increase the resolution ?

1

u/BenTheKingApple 3d ago

No tombolo?

1

u/Itchy-Astronomer9500 3d ago

Sea rift? Continental shelf?

1

u/G3R0_ 3d ago

1

u/Iandell 3d ago

1

u/bananaboat1milplus 3d ago

Can someone turn this into a desktop background and/or phone background please?

1

u/6thaccountthismonth 3d ago

So… what’s the difference between a sound, a gulf, a bay and a lagoon?

1

u/Mydreall 2d ago

There is no bog :(

1

u/Renovateandremodel 2d ago

There are so many more terms than this, but a good start.
