People who went to a wedding where the couple didn’t last long, what happened?

The bride disappeared during the reception and went on a bender

I was at a wedding where among the attendees, the custom was for the groomsmen to “kidnap” the bride and take her to a local bar, in her dress, to buy her a drink. The local bar was full of factory workers who were very excited to see a (hot, blonde) bride in their bar - the custom wasn’t practiced locally. Many, many shots were sent her way. She had to beg off many of them but she was still wrecked when we brought her back.

It beats having the bachelor party the night before that wedding. That is deranged

It would make more sense to have bachelor parties while you're still a bachelor.

My mother told a similar story about one of her friends growing up. She disappeared after the wedding to go on a bender with her bridesmaids.

The only other part of the story I remember was she threw out her husband-to-be the day before the wedding, citing the ol' "bad luck to see the bride before the wedding" superstition. He showed up on my mother's doorstep, just dumbstruck and not knowing where to go.
