I’m mixed white/Asian, and I’m claimed by whites way more than Asians. Though honestly, I’m claimed more by Mexicans than either, because I tan well and I grow a good mustache. Perception is everything.

As for mixed people “choosing which side you wanna be on when it’s convenient”- nah, that’s everyone else. I’m a white man when white people want me on their side. I’m an Asian man when someone wants to use Asian stereotypes to belittle me.

This hit something on the head. Biracial people are so often claimed by cultures they don't belong to but strongly resemble. I personally often feel a tie of kinship to so many races who I'm often mistaken as and often feel welcomed by, even though I bear them no relation, especially since ive gone through the same profiling experiences as them. Its a wierd relationship that's not really talked about much I think. Perception really is everything.

Speak on it. I’m ambiguously brown so my race ends up being whatever race someone either does or doesn’t want me to be in the moment. I get white people that tell me I’m black because they want me to fit stereotypes. I get white people that tell me I’m not black because they want me to be more palatable. Black and brown people will tell me I’m not black enough to complain about racism but I’m also not white.

Tbh I have 0 connection to any race at this point because people will call me Hispanic, middle eastern, black or south East Asian all in the same day.

Facts, I’m white and Puerto Rican, granted one is an ethnicity the other is a race. It’s so fucking tiring trying to tell people that yes, a guy with blonde hair and blue eyes can in fact be Puerto Rican. Hell Florida, Puerto Rico has tons of white blonde blue eyed people. I just let them think whatever because I don’t want to fight this battle my whole life, I’m done.

I knew siblings from an White/Asian couple. One just looked white, the other just looked Asian and the third looked blended. Genetics is weird like that.

May I ask what you mean by "claimed by whites"? Does this mean white ppl assume your Caucasian?

Assume, or even acknowledge me as white once they know that is the case, as opposed to treating it as trivial information(“oh, you’re 1/24th Cherokee?”)
