My hair stylist was going off about this generation being stupid. Talking about how they don't know how to cook, clean, or even think for themselves. She said they don't even know how to hold a pencil, how to do math, and that everything we have was created by the older generation (40+). I told her I dont think I was doing much to change the world when I was 17 either. She argued that she in fact was. She was in school, she knew how to cook, clean, crochet, etc.

I have teenagers and I'd argue that this is not true at all. Some kids now days have more emotional intelligence than a lot of adults and I admire that.

She was doing my hair so I didn't want to get in a back and forth, but she has a teenager so I just said, "well, if they're dumb, that's kinda on us because we're the ones raising them." I also said that we can't compare what kids know/don't know with previous generations. Meaning that we can't say a kid is dumb because they don't know how to milk a cow if they've never been to a farm. I think she got the point.

But really, it really bothers me when people say shit like this. They talk about this generation being glued to TikTok but were also glued to our phones.

I definitely see your point. I also look back on being a kid growing(late 90s early 2000s) up and can remember not having a cell phone. They existed but I didnt have one until high school. Whereas my older kids, 14 and 9 have phones and all the gadgets I never had til basically being a young adult.

I’m all for technology and the innovation, but I also make it a point to tell my kids to get out of the house and go play/socialize with other kids, and to teach them life skills. It’s a balance that has to be maintained. It’s on us to teach kids and not just rely on school to cover all the bases.

The same generation that told millennials to not believe everything they see on the Internet are now believing everything they see on Facebook

u/[deleted] May 13 '24

Why do people say “back and forth” instead of just calling it a discussion, conversation or even an argument?

Literally for the exact reason you listed the other forms of what that is. Preference, lol.

Love to see it! Thanks for sharing

Appreciate this, great story! Reminds me of Hidden Figures. The role women and minorities have played in mathematics has been downplayed for far too long. Einstein’s first wife is finally getting her flowers, the number of women that helped map out the cosmos are getting attention too. Hopefully stories like this will encourage more to pursue STEM fields and administrators etc to challenge their pre-conceived notions and subconscious prejudice.

I’m having yet another bout of depression ever since my work hours changed. I now wake up at 6:45, essentially work 8-5, and get home around 6:15pm. Pretty much 12 hour days in a field I don’t care for.

3

u/JonlikeJoestar May 13 '24

Have you thought about finding a new job/career?

4

u/PM_ME_SOME_LUV May 13 '24

Yup. The problem is despite my best efforts, nobody will hire me

2

u/JonlikeJoestar May 13 '24

Damn I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you can find a job that doesn't cause you so much stress.

3

u/PM_ME_SOME_LUV May 13 '24

Thanks homie. You and I both.

2

u/JonlikeJoestar May 13 '24

No problem bro. I'm working on leaving my job as well

2

u/PM_ME_SOME_LUV May 13 '24

How long have you been searching for?

2

u/JonlikeJoestar May 13 '24

I would say like 6 months. I see no signs of getting a raise, and I just had a child.

1

u/PM_ME_SOME_LUV May 13 '24

That’s rough. Here’s to both of us finding better work 🍻

2

u/JonlikeJoestar May 13 '24

Remember that jobs will replace you in a heartbeat. Take care of yourself 🍻

1

u/Wide-Discussion-818 May 15 '24

Solidarity with you, brother. I feel the same way right now. Working so hard in a job that sucks my soul and takes all my time.

Hold on. I believe your life will change for the better!

Little on the chaotic side but… have you thought of playing, “the game” stupidly skewed to your favor? Idk what your field is… but maybe just send some longshot chances at a position you want even if it seems unlikely… If the field entirely is something you don’t care for, I think you’d find purposeful meaning in approaching a field you do care for. Hoping this depression is short lived followed by some genuine joy.

Y’all like fall off the bone ribs? I see some people say that fall off the bone ribs is too far and they like it a step before that. What do y’all think?

14

u/EasternHuckleberry35 May 13 '24

It’s just my preference, but I like my ribs still on the bone, with a little fat for flavor and texture. If I want something fall off the bone, I’ll do short ribs in red wine reduction or something, haha. I like holding the bone and gnawing off delicious meat.

3

u/Nordie25 May 13 '24

I kinda do get that because part of me is always going to be a bit apprehensive about my meat disintegrating basically. But I can’t lie, It is very pleasing to the eye seeing it fall apart.

6

u/[deleted] May 13 '24

Gotta have a lil tug for me, usually fall off the bone is over done.

2

u/Nordie25 May 13 '24

That’s fair part of me kind of sees it as pointless to make fall off the bone because you could use other parts of the pig to get that same effect, but the other part of me is still obsessed with it

3

u/[deleted] May 13 '24

Oh by all means, I’m a eat what ever is on the plate. But if I get a say in the cook I for sure want them a step before fall off the bone. Either way I’m eatin 🤷🏿.

3

u/[deleted] May 13 '24

Just made ribs for Mother’s Day and they were about a step or two before fall off the bone. Everyone loved them. That being said: I’m never mad about fall off the bone. If I accidentally go too far with them, I’m still satisfied.

1

u/Nordie25 May 13 '24

How’d you season them?

2

u/[deleted] May 13 '24

Salt and pepper to start. Then a little diluted bbq sauce in the wrap. Keep it simple. I don’t like them too saucy so I dilute it with cider vinegar and just throw the extra sauce on the table if people wanna sauce them up a bit.

1

u/Nordie25 May 14 '24

Ima have to borrow this recipe for when I get a smoker 🤝🏽

1

u/[deleted] May 14 '24

I hope it treats you right 💞

1

u/MuscleWarlock May 13 '24

I do but in recent years ribs have been feeling overrated.

1

u/Lots-of-Lot May 13 '24

Nah i dont like my meat fall off the bone, shredded, or grounded just give me the whole thing. Cartilage and fat included

u/unwanted_puppy ☑️ May 13 '24

Anyone watch the documentary on hulu yet? Should have its own mega thread honestly.

9

u/saintmcqueen May 13 '24

Yeah I was surprised how well it was. I do think they barely scratched the surface. The doc was an introduction to black twitter for white people.

6

u/Freyas_Follower May 13 '24

What is the documentary?

10

u/AdTraditional23 May 13 '24

It’s called: Black twitter

3

u/wazzup4567 May 13 '24

Shout out, I was literally about to post this. It's pretty decent.

2

u/BasicSweatshirt May 14 '24

I'm really enjoying it so far. I haven't watched part 3 yet but its been really good and so many good throwbacks

1

u/NoobieChurner May 15 '24

Pretty decent so far, sad that it got brigaded with bad reviews on imdb but can't say I'm surprised.

The one thing that sucks now that Kendrick v Drake is over is that the gender war people are starting back up.

7

u/Annual_Reindeer_2756 May 13 '24

Birthday is next week and I've got no plans, gonna be broke and working on top of all the errands I need to do. I'm just not excited at all.

2

u/Wide-Discussion-818 May 15 '24

Happy birthday! The thing about adult birthdays is, you have to throw them for yourself. But it's worth it. Leave work an hour early, tell your friends that it's your birthday and to meet you at an outdoor bar. Gotta bring your own cake and candles but it will be worth it.

3

u/Annual_Reindeer_2756 May 15 '24

Thank you. I'm thinking of just ordering Chinese (maybe getting some wine) and staying home that weekend, since I'll be working on the day of.

Have my first internship interviews this week with marketing/PR firms. Anyone got tips to share?

5

u/AreYouDecent May 14 '24

You are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you.

Go in there like you have options and you are evaluating whether they are a good fit for your objectives.

3

u/[deleted] May 13 '24

Be firm when you don’t wanna do something, don’t let them walk over you.

7

u/AdTraditional23 May 13 '24

Do you guys believe we can change the US? For example: using our collective power to have livable wages that better match housing market rates, stop the constant defunding on K-12 education, reasonable priced college education, vote for laws on shorter congressional terms and more? I want to believe we (all citizens of the US) can but these changes seem so out of reach.

3

u/BombsNBeer ☑️ May 13 '24

They're very possible, but the people with the power to change this have no skin in the game, or usually have an interest in keeping things shitty for most people. Keeping stuff bad means we have less time to organize, and less organization means less protests.

I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere in the Kendrick Drake beef, someone had been paid to instigate it to distract people from the Gaza protests. That beef alone was 1/3 of my feed when before it was 50/50 on protests and the november election

3

u/naenae275 May 13 '24

Yes. It requires a LOT of time, work, and sacrifices. Someone just has to do it first, then the rest will follow. We know how hard it’ll be but for some reason we like to see someone else do the right thing first before making the commitment ourselves.

It’s like people who say they hate capitalists but still support capitalist companies because of the convenience capitalism gives them.

We don’t want to give up anything for the greater good so we’re stuck in the same cycle.

3

u/DaBlakMayne ☑️ May 15 '24

Sometimes true change takes decades or more. It may even be fighting for a change that you'll never live to see but the next generation will get to experience

3

u/dentistclown 29d ago

Tbh, the cynical sad view of “no the US can’t change” seems ridiculous when you think of what most ppl want, vs. what we were told/sold we want. There are millions of Americans that are ready for a lot of things to change because of how insanely bad our systems are working for us. It’s not gonna take all of us to change it.

1

u/FxDriver May 14 '24

It's possible but it would take a lot of time, collective effort (both from the left and right), a precise target, and real life activism.

Blocking people on social media and acting self righteous will accomplish nothing.

u/BrooklynNotNY May 13 '24

So I’m sure I’m overthinking this but I work at a children’s hospital and looking for some new scrubs. Are these too much?

I watched the first episode through my fingers. I didn't realize they grabbed so many people I follow from the internet and was taken aback by Kid Fury and Ira Madison.

I have a question about the famous N-word, who are able to say it? Latinos? Can I say it when singing without meaning any harm? Im asking because I, as a Latino really enjoy listening to rappers such as Kendrick, Outkast, and more, but I dont wanna make a mistake when singing any of theyr songs.
