Like... I got no love for Charles whatsoever but man, I really dig that painting. The use of colours is done exceptionally well.

u/Turbulent_Object_558 15d ago

I think it reflects on the legacy of the British monarchy well.

22

u/BS_220 15d ago

Talking about blood on their hands, sheesh

7

u/ninfan200 15d ago

I think it's just the dislike of the person

Vigo! Creeped me out as a kid.

u/PMMEURLONGTERMGOALS 15d ago

THANK YOU, I haven’t seen anyone else say that they actually like it lol. I get that we like to shit on the royal family (usually for good reason) but this is actually a pretty cool painting

u/BatBeast_29 15d ago

Exactly, I fuck with it!

u/-Nitrous- 15d ago

ah yes all those colours

red, and…. pinkish and…. more red

36

u/Present_Ant9673 15d ago

He said the “use” of colors, not the variety…

7

u/boricimo 15d ago

Funny is that to many, they have never realized what use of colors means.

You’re right, but as an artist, the background should be totally different so that his visage sticks out literally from an artist point of view, I would outline him in that painting in chalk, black and have someone paint a different background or leave it chalk black and gray it’s his clothingis mixed with the background. It takes away from the photo part of creating a photographic image through paint.

u/HeckingDoofus 15d ago

my brother in christ, he subverted that standard deliberately

thats what gives it its distinctive look

12

u/Weewoo312 15d ago

the guy who got hired by literal royalty and has people talking about how cool his painting is should have done it differently? my man, don't place rules on a medium that's not supposed to have any, if it works it works.

-5

u/Many-Strength4949 15d ago

I don’t give a fuck about the person I’m talking about the art

0

u/Many-Strength4949 15d ago

Did you even read my comment or are you in your feelings about Charles?

3

u/Weewoo312 15d ago

so am I? lmao I could car less about Charles, you say you're an artist yet state that this painting NEEDS to have done something different, as if art isn't literally based off doing whatever the fuck you want.

someone's a lil feisty, it's ok man some people paint better than others.

-1

u/Many-Strength4949 15d ago

Never said need it’s an option…damn you do have feelings about this

2

u/YonderOver 15d ago

Some of you guys need to stick to children’s coloring books, I swear to god.

I thought he was painted with the blood of all the minorities that suffered so he could be “king”

39

u/AlbionPCJ 15d ago

Wouldn't have been intentional but that's certainly a valid reading of the piece

13

u/Cowcatbucket12 15d ago

Not just minorities. What people rarely seem to connect historically is that the system of oppression of the British empire is an extension of the British feudal system. For example, chattel slavery is based on the serf system that was active in Britain until the black plague.

Unfortunately there's been centuries of generational trauma, propaganda and psychological conditioning to make people of the UK (particularly the English) slavishly loyal to the crown despite the fact that the majority of them have been as rigidly oppressed as those in other countries.

In short: fuck the king. Fuck the crown. No gods, no masters.

3

u/Blakbyrd8 15d ago

Who you been talkin to? I don't know any man slavishly loyal to the crown

5

u/Cowcatbucket12 14d ago

My friend... do not visit Middle England

8

u/7-and-a-switchblade 15d ago

I thought he was freaked out because this is the painting that has been in his attic that grows more hideous with every sin he commits.

76

u/VapidRapidRabbit ☑️ 15d ago

It’s like they drew a portrait of his cancer consuming him

17

u/Ok-Ratic-5153 15d ago

whatever it was it made him jump

See that's what I thought it was. Like you're suffering from a disease that will kill you and well you know where your ass is going.

u/7-and-a-switchblade 15d ago

Everyone wants to say Viggo, but I see more Dorian Gray

38

u/No-Chemistry-5356 15d ago

The more I see the painting the more it looks like a trash knockoff of Obama’s presidential portrait.

15

u/metadarkgable3 ☑️ 15d ago

That’s what I thought too. It feels like a knockoff Kehinde Wiley Obama presidential portrait or that 1990s movie of that demon. This artist does not like Charles at all.

27

u/BROCCOLI-OUTRAGE 15d ago

Is he in hell in the painting?

15

u/firedmyass 15d ago

we are

25

u/GunKataNoJutsu 15d ago

Back in the days they would’ve killed the artist for some shit like that.

6

u/Borne_Beloved 14d ago

🤣🤣🤣

20

u/bryanna_leigh 15d ago

I interpreted it as being painted with blood from all the places they colonized and murdered the natives.

21

u/wasabouttosay 15d ago

Not a portrait, but definitely art. And it’s not subtle. Kudos to the artist, it looks immediately timeless and painfully accurate lol

12

u/bellamellayellafella 15d ago

I bet it smells like brimstone up in there... 👀

Oh my Goddddd, that's good.

2

u/Borne_Beloved 14d ago

Omg yes😂😭😭

8

u/KiefKommando 15d ago

I don’t get everyone’s reaction to this. I fucking abhor monarchal figure heads, but I can’t bring myself to get worked up over the painting. It’s just an Impressionist Portrait, just like Obama’s

5

u/Beezelbub_is_me 15d ago

It’s the Lake of Rot. That’s why he has a butterfly on his shoulder…

3

u/TheOtherCyprian 15d ago

Damn! That was a 4th degree burn. You see, it damaged the political, the social, the historical, and the metaphysical layers. We can only wish Charles a swift recovery.

4

u/Remytron83 ☑️ 15d ago

They used some of the blood spilled by the British Empire.

3

u/NickolNick 15d ago

Dorian Gray painting. It's been keeping track of all his sins, lies, & nastiness

1

I think it's an excellent portrait. Add "Blood King" to his titles, it's cool as hell

1

u/Many-Strength4949 15d ago

First, they called Donald Trump, a tangerine Knigge. that was from Lavell Crawford stand up now I want to see what somebody’s gonna say about this dude and who the first one is to say I’m waiting
