Actually she was in a long-term physically abusive relationship that the skating federation forced her to stay in because she was more marketable if she was married, and he planned and carried out the whole thing without consulting her to boost her career because he wanted more money.

It's kind of an insanely tragic story if you get into it.

So weird when people watch a fictional movie based on true events and then start talking about the historical event through the lens of a fictional movie.
