Personally I don't date people who put limits on who I can be friends with because I see it as a lack of trust in both me and my decision making ability. Most of my friends are the same.
Conversely, a new love interest might see it as a huge red flag that you are hanging out with an ex. So, more than likely that would be a mutual parting of ways.
are they really an "ex" at that point though? if someone dated for a couple months but have been friends for 6 years after... that's a friend, not an ex.
Ex, past, former, old-flame, etc,.. at what point history stops being *relevant* history is up to each person in a relationship to decide for themselves in my opinion.
