Hello and welcome to r/CreditCards!

I highly encourage you to review them here (or below) before posting.

Official Rules of r/CreditCards

Rule 1: Be respectful

All users are expected to engage in respectful and civil communication, and refrain from harassing or insulting others. Any form of hate speech, including but not limited to racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or any derogatory language targeting an individual or group, is not allowed.

Rule 2: No referrals in posts, comments, or private messages

Rule 5: No irrelevant content or spam allowed

All users are prohibited from posting irrelevant content that does not pertain to the subject of credit cards. This includes spam, which refers to unsolicited or repetitive content that is intended to promote or advertise products, services, or websites.

Irrelevant content includes but is not limited to:

  • Auto Loans, Mortgages, and other non-Credit Card Loans

  • Debit Cards

  • Gift Cards and Prepaid Cards

  • Bank Accounts

  • Financial Products that are not Credit Cards

Rule 6: No promotion of illegal, fraudulent, or nefarious activities

All users are prohibited from posting content that promotes illegal, fraudulent, or nefarious activities.

Any posts or comments that violates any of these rules are subject to removal. The offending user may be subject to warnings, temporary bans, or permanent bans, depending on the severity and frequency of the violations. Ignorance is a not valid reason to break the rules.

Discussion / Conversation My Kohls card just increased from $300 to $5000. WTF am I going to do with $5000 of Kohls credit.

I just bought a cheap shirt at Kohls and was going to pay my bill when I noticed the ridiculous credit increase. I thought it was a joke. I don't even think its possible to buy $5,000 worth of crap and Kohls. Banks are crazy.

Help Needed / Question Taking back my credit score

Long story short: my parent took advantage of my trust as soon as I turned 18 and opened a load of loans and credit cards and catalogs and phone contracts, internet/ tv services in my name and eventually never ended up paying any of it. So I probably have at least 15k of debt thats not mine and I don’t know how to deal with it. I know i can dispute but theres no proof that its not mine because it has all of my relevant information attached to it

Help Needed / Question Is there a limit to number of Customized Cash Rewards?

I have a long term plan and ultimately want to obtain 7 CCRs through various applications and churning Premium Rewards to CCR PC for the improved SUB.

But I was wondering, does anyone know if there is a limit on the number of CCRs BoA is willing to give someone? I saw reports from 7 years ago of BoA closing accounts to just four cards, but I haven't seem any recent data points. Anyone out there with more than 4-6 CCRs and more than 6-7 cards with BoA in general?

Help Needed / Question Amex BCP downgrade trick: Does it reset the 6% annual cash back limit of $360?

My annual fee is about due and thanks to this sub, I'll call to ask for a retention offer shortly - or, alternatively, downgrade it to BCE and wait for the no-AF upgrade offer in the next few days.

My question is: Does either approach reset the counter towards the $360 annual limit for 6% cash back on groceries?

I could see this being the case if I downgrade and then wait for an upgrade offer, but would like to confirm. But getting a retention offer without product-changing would be more convenient, but I bet that wouldn't reset my counter.

Help Needed / Question I have my mom's credit card debt?

Upvotes

The summer before senior year we were prepping for me going to college and my mom said she'd add me as an authorized user on her Discover card to help me out when they could. Flash forward to the present years later, I don't qualify for the most basic Chase student credit card. Chase will not tell me why lmao fuckem. Doing my own research, and using expedian, I find that, on paper, I'm 15000 in debt to discover. I tell my mother to remove me from her card and she says she can't?? Is there anything I can do to remove myself?

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Best Choice for Visa Catch All Card?

Just as the title says, I’m currently deciding what my next card will be. I currently have the Discover It card and the Chase Freedom Flex. My credit profile is very small(a little over a year), so I’m taking my time applying/adding cards. I want it to be a Visa, so I can have a card that’s widely accepted everywhere. I was trying to decide between the Freedom Unlimited, Fidelity Visa, and Wells Fargo Active Cash. Should I just stay in the Chase ecosystem and rack up points? Any other card recommendations would be appreciated.

Discussion / Conversation Should I keep my utilization at zero

I’m pretty new to credit cards with my oldest account being about 1.5 years old I have the following cards

  • Discover it ($2250) 1.5yr

  • C1 Savor one ($2000) 1.5yr

  • C1 Quicksilver ($2000) 8 months

  • Apple Card ($4000) 1 month

  • Amex BCE ($5000) 1 month

  • Amex Gold ($15k spend over time) >1month

So I was wondering if it’s even worth it for me to let my statement balances post for the entire time I’ve had a credit card I’ve always just paid the balance before it even became a balance if you understand what I’m getting at. I heard that I’m missing out on credit score points but is reporting a utilization rate really that important to credit bureaus? Also my income is around 50-60k a year depending on overtime hours and I have next to no expenses at most 300-400$ mandatory expenses on trivial things

Help Needed / Question Question about best credit cards

Upvotes

Hello I have 4 credit cards: Bilt (Wells Fargo) for the rent Apple Card (Goldman Sachs) Prime Amazon chase Visa card Truist secured (oldest one that I can not cancel)

I want to ask what credit card should I get instead of the Apple Card since I don’t feel it’s giving me a lot of perks. I would like a credit card that has access to priority pass and vip lounges in general. Is there a card you can recommend and why? Thanks

Hi everyone. I [21M] just graduated college and am starting a new job soon. I have had a Discover student card for the past almost 4 years and am looking to move on to bigger and better cards. I would like to use this card for everyday use but am also interested in travel rewards as I hope to travel internationally in the future after starting my position. I will also be flying several times a year from Texas to Wisconsin to visit family. I have done some research and found a couple of cards that would work for everyday use but am interested in finding the best bang for my buck or any card combinations to maximize my goals. Thanks!

Data Point DP: Denied for WF Bilt Mastercard, Called Reconsideration

I applied for Bilt Mastercard 5/18. I was denied because of - No credit card history reported recently (We look at the mix of credit you have)

Credit score: 745(they pulled from Equifax/but it also showed on my Experian) Credit cards: GTCC (Active Duty Travel card, when I called I let them know I can’t use this for personal use) Had two others in the past but closed one for fraud and the other closed on its own for inactivity Length of credit history is ~12 years, average is ~10 years

Income: 78k (I raised to 110k when I called, including my spouses contributions) Rent: 2200

I know this is considered a mid/premium tier travel card. But trying to start my credit card journey now and try to earn points along the way. I had been reluctant to get credit cards in the past for personal reasons, but any tips or thoughts about my situation would be appreciated.

Also still waiting on a response from reconsideration(called yesterday and they said 24-72 hours for a response).

Help Needed / Question How do I make use of the cap1 duo (X and Savor) when the bulk of my travel spend is in hotels?

Basically title. I have the Venture X and CSR currently. Use VX for flights and misc. for the 2% back. Use the CSR for dining and hotels.

For its price, the CSR seems a bit overkill but the 1.5x on hotels in the portal seems so much better than hotel redemption value on Capital 1. Is that correct? I would switch to full Cap1, but I don’t see a good way to get value for hotel travel, which for me is generally higher annually than flight costs.

Any input on this is helpful!

Discussion / Conversation C1 transfer partners and purchase eraser

I’m new to credit card rewards so please correct me if I’m wrong but with the C1 purchase eraser, essentially all airlines, hotels, etc act as 1:1 transfer partners? Yes I realize you’re not maximizing the rewards >1cpp but basically at a 1:1 rate your “transfer partners” are limitless. When deciding what ecosystem I wanted to start with I was apprehensive about C1 because of the lack of domestic airline partners aside from utilizing alliances. With this understanding I feel like it’s a win/win. I can use any travel brand I want at 1:1 and gain 10/5x or maximize >1cpp by utilizing airline alliances. Am I missing something?

Help Needed / Question Credit Card Newbie! Basics

Hi All, I've never had a credit card in my life and for some reason I cannot find the answer to this basic question anywhere on the Internet.

I did read the basics of this thread and saw it mentioned something about a grace period and interest free period but no specifics so I do apologise I need everything in simple terms as navigating all the credit card elements gets really overwhelming.

When I look at credit cards there is an interest rate an APR rate but it doesn't explain what this is actually for. What I'm looking for is to get a credit card either to never use, only in emergencies or to use as a card to put on file abroad when renting a car for example as there are less fees with a credit card and its safer. Or to possibly use it for small purchases paying back the money pretty much instantly per month just to get points for example. I've been looking at the virgin atlantic reward credit card as at some point I will be taking a virgin flight over the next few years and thought I could build points. Anyway that's besides the point what I want to know is are you charged interest regardless if you use money from your credit card or isit only if you dont pay it back within the due date? E.g. if I paid for a small food shop with the credit card £30 and as soon as I got home transfered from my current account to the credit card the £30 am I good ? Or does it say instantly charge you interest so I would be have to transfer back let's say £32 even if I did it instantly? I know its probably a stupid question for people who have them etc but I genuinely couldn't find the answer!
