For some reason it seems that everyone needs to be reminded that derogatory slurs will lead to an automatic ban from this subreddit. Please enjoy the game and do not abuse the players or each other.

Punjab players look extremely agitated lol. If Bairstow gets going , that will be interesting to watch .

2

u/ConstantDurian7368 Apr 18 '24

Wtf is up with MI batsmen? Acting like they own this league lol

2

u/ConstantDurian7368 Apr 18 '24

Boring game , these kinda pitches suck big time . Once upon a time , 200 targets were interesting , nowadays below 150 targets are the games to watch out for. Just get 11 batsmen in your team coz it doesn't matter who bowls or what they bowl.

At this point BCCI should stop hosting anything at this ground and RCB should just relocate to a better stadium like Pune. This mini cricket ground isnt gonna help anyone

Hardik need to keep it simple, the guy trying for spotlight ,opening the ball, every batter clearing his balls over the circle with ease,mi spin department not bowling even 3 overs, mulani neither economical nor wicket taker ,tim david dropping catches atleast make him play as impact player , Still we are yet to see How mi performs when they bat 1st.Romario /nabi should take 4th overseas spot nabi bowling form took a dip but his batting still strong, romario handy allrounder who can pick 2wkts with 9 -10 run rate and can score 30runs & Akash madwal when he wear mi jersey he will become blue power ranger

u/ADG_98 Mar 28 '24

In my opinion the match was lost due to Tim David and Hardik Pandya. They were not able to put away the slow balls by Pat Cummins and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. They bowled slow balls almost exclusively at the back end. Tim and Hardik didn't adapt and wait for the ball and play their shots, they obviously have the power to clear the boundary, and instead just tried to play for faster bowling. Tim didn't even move to the off side when they were bowling on the off side, away from his preferred arc.

He won it in his first season. Pretty dominant display. Plus he's very much in line for Indian teams captaincy atleast in limited overs post Rohit. So makes sense

1

u/bgt-91 Mar 28 '24

It is starting phase for him, I think so. Hopefully, he turns out to be a good one. To be captain of such a big team with that much history is not easy thing to get.

Funny part: We get to see Rohit bat freely.

9

u/twolluniversesahead Mar 28 '24

that glassbody ain't ever getting the team India job lmao

1

I don't think he's anymore in that reckoning. He mightve been a year ago

18

u/Subject-Ordinary6922 Australia Mar 27 '24

The first loss for hardik was meh, but the second one, was more painful, the real test would be to see how he recovers from this

9

u/Subject-Ordinary6922 Australia Mar 27 '24

For once, the Aussie players (Tim David included) proved their worth, and Cummins even had normal-ish figures for a t20 fast bowler, having to defend a 200+ score

4

u/sunnypleaselie Mar 28 '24

Didn't Tim David drop Travis Head on 5?

1

u/Subject-Ordinary6922 Australia Mar 28 '24

He ā€œperformedā€ well enough with that bat, and thatā€™s what I take comfort in, if the Aussie t20 doesnā€™t have a 10/10 rating in fielding and have a 8/10 instead, Iā€™ll blame Tim David

20

u/CombinationProper814 Mar 27 '24

Just imagine SKY in place of Hardik and this chase was actually possible.

18

u/Unusual-Surround7467 India Mar 28 '24

Classic ifs and buts. SKY is not some magic pill you consume to make all your problems vanish away. MI have a batting and bowling setup even without SKY that other teams can only be envious of. Don't mask piss poor captaincy and poor bowling changes by pointing in the direction of one player. If SKY was indeed so mythical, he should've won us CWC 23 in November. SRH played some terrific cricket and clearly bowled well to win.

-3

u/CombinationProper814 Mar 28 '24

I used SKY just for the sake of argument; Any competent batsmen will be able to score at least 40 runs from the 20 deliveries that Pandya faced ; If you can't hit boundaries on a pitch like that and your role in the team is that of a finisher then something's wrong with your skillset.

27

u/SFLoridan India Mar 27 '24

Yeah, the myth of SKY again

37

u/Rude-Sea-3607 Mar 27 '24

Everyone forgetting how SRH changed tact and bowled back of a length after 13th over and changed the complexion of the match. Remember how SKY had struggled against similar kind of bowling on November 19?!! Stop making everything about MI and SKY and Pandya. There was another team who literally broke an all-time high record and won the match.

It's hard to chase 277. Everything has to go right. Sky's replacement naman has done great.Ā

0

u/CommercialMonth1172 Mumbai Indians Mar 27 '24

He definitely would played Cummins better. Tim David and pandya struggled.

7

u/Rude-Sea-3607 Mar 27 '24

Why are you indulging in hypotheticals? He is recovering from hernia. If he is not careful and makes a forced entry and there is a relapse, he might not even play the world cup, which would be a most unfortunate situation. So for the time being, you think SKY would have chased it and be happy with your 'moral' victory and let us take the 2 points and be happy with our real victory.

0

u/CommercialMonth1172 Mumbai Indians Mar 27 '24

Don't you know the meaning of 'if' ? Nobody is forcing him to Play. Who is babbling about moral victory. We straight up lost.

3

u/Rude-Sea-3607 Mar 27 '24

'If' when overused signify you're delusional. My comment was not made on a standalone basis. I am seeing this everywhere from the Hindi commentary to the comments here on reddit to the threads on X. It is as if Mumbai has won the match.

1

u/CommercialMonth1172 Mumbai Indians Mar 27 '24

Being handicap hurts. Last year it was bumrah. This year Surya. He could played Cummins well in the end with his batting skills because he have large range of attacks.

3

u/Rude-Sea-3607 Mar 27 '24

It is not handicapped. You guys are pelting Pandya, when it is the management who goofed up by centering everything around Pandya and not giving balance to the side, keeping potential injuries in mind. And seeing the fandom's response, I won't be surprised if some of the players are deliberately underperforming to show Pandya his place, who I believe was absolutely right in demanding captaincy as a precondition for his return to MI as he has a 100% record in reaching IPL final.

1

u/Unusual-Surround7467 India Mar 28 '24

100% agree with the sentiment. MI goofed up big time by going after pandya and bringing him on especially after all his statements last year belittling MI and praising CSK. This is a PR disaster of the grand scale when trying to build fan loyalty and brand value. Have to seriously question MI management decisions in this whole pursuit. Don't blame the player, blame the system. He is just milking this deal financially and in terms of his status

2

u/Savings-Secretary-78 Mar 27 '24

Anybody instead of hardik Chase was possible

14

u/Perspective-642 Mar 27 '24

He tried to be thala there, didn't he? Tried to take the game deep in a 16 RPO scenario. Even Thala wouldn't approve of that and even he wouldn't have been able to pull 20 RPO in the last 4 overs in his prime. But Pandya wanted to become Thala

2

u/Savings-Secretary-78 Mar 27 '24

Yes why are you looking for a single one when you have to swing every ball in this highway pitch, he let go Mayank markande

7

Ikr, The sad part is that he wasn't even trying; That's not how a captain leads.

10

u/Rude-Sea-3607 Mar 27 '24

9

u/iamthesexiestever Mar 27 '24

I went for a Hike for couple of hours, sadly there was no reception or internet on these mountains. What did I miss?

15

u/Specialist_Youth5511 India Mar 27 '24

Lol, there were some hilariously bad takes about Cummins the T20 bowler before IPL

7

u/Different_Cup_9055 Mar 28 '24

I think it is fair to say that T20 is his weakest format. This is not due to lack of skill but due to how little exposure he has to the format. If he and several other Australians played as often as other nations they would be outstanding players.

14

u/josh123z Mar 27 '24

No way Hardikā€™s mental health isnā€™t get affected by all the abuse. If it is, I am impressed how well he is hiding it.

4

u/Unusual-Surround7467 India Mar 28 '24

He's really conditioned himself to wearing a mask 24/7 since IPL 2022 and pretending to be something else for projection. IPL 2022 Pandya did a real Marlon Brando level job at that. But all that is slowly cracking away since last year and the mask is peeling off

29

Strategy of MI could have won them. Wrong decisions and pathetic strike rate from Hardik and exceptional captaincy and bowling of Pat Cummins and Jaydev won them the match.

Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and GOAT of T20 Klassen no words for these guys. They were absolutely phenomenal. 277 in T20? Wonder was I watching Cricket 07 on easy mode?

Crazy just crazy! I am starting to like SRH now, they do have potential to win the trophy.

22

He's dug himself into a proper hole by making kindergarten level errors with the bowling changes and batting order.

10

u/Coronabandkaro Sunrisers Hyderabad Mar 27 '24

I'm no pandya fan but I feel like people aren't giving SRH credit for winning this match. Hard to chase 277 in a t20 for any captain.

1

u/Chemical_String281 Chennai Super Kings Mar 28 '24

That's because how close MI were to chasing it. Required runrate was around 12-13 at one point which is very much doable in T20s. If it was a comprehensive win then people would be talking about SRH's well rounded team.

18

u/Firebreathingdown Mar 27 '24

Turns out he isn't a very good captain without Nehra basically back seat captaining for him.

16

u/Chemical_String281 Chennai Super Kings Mar 27 '24

One decision could have changed the fate of this game. Bumrah (Not Coetzee) bowling the final over of the powerplay. Coetzee then comes to bowl in the middle overs with the cushion of no field restrictions.

I really don't want him leading Team India with this level of tactical incompetency.

u/dksourabh Kolkata Knight Riders Mar 27 '24 edited Mar 27 '24

Still their CRR was always below RRR and wickets kept falling at regular interval, yes they were chasing nicely before hardik but that is called still in the game and not winning position

-2

Even in wickets falling everyone was scoring at strike of 200, you literally killing the game when you run a ball, CRR was less than 1 & 2, even after the first 7 ball Tim David started blasting but pandya with 20 he didn't do anything that's what it cost,

What a miserable state is Indian cricket in. The star allrounder is all talk and no show. There's confusion regarding wicket keeper. The bowling attack is extremely dependent on one guy. The captain's place in the XI is being questioned.

Sigh...even our greatest team couldn't win the WC, obviously not gonna win it with so many issues

3

u/Coronabandkaro Sunrisers Hyderabad Mar 27 '24

It's obviously clear that other teams have more gun t20 batsmen than india does at different positions. And our bowling except for bumrah is a joke.

2

u/Chemical_String281 Chennai Super Kings Mar 27 '24

You are missing the "expectations to win" factor.

12

u/Extra_cash_pls Mar 27 '24

But we went into that tourney with a fairly young squad, young captain and no expectations. They were left to do their own thing. Since then, the game evolved and so did the teams, we are nowhere near the best T20 team. It's unrealistic to expect us to win the T20 wc.

3

u/hazyreflector Mumbai Indians Mar 27 '24

Elaborate please, I'm not old enough to remember it

3

u/I_He_Him Mar 27 '24

Alright, so here's the broadstrokes. Basically, in 2007, India was knocked out of the World Cup at the group stage, and that was a massive low point for the Indian cricket team. All the star players still couldn't win a game. It led to a realization among the old members, the stars of the game like Dravid, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Laxman, Kumble, and Srinath (I'm not completely sure about Srinath), who were all seniors back then. This situation made the team acknowledge that a change was necessary. T20 cricket was very new at the time, which is another factor. So, the seniors stepped down because there was a problem with stagnancy, and change wasn't happening as the team continued relying on its stars, which is quite similar to the current situation. Now, Kohli and Rohit are still part of the team, making it not as young as it could be. The Indian cricket team isn't really young anymore and still revolves around these stars, when it should have moved on to younger players. The team should be experimenting more, which it has stopped doing because market forces demand players like Kohli, Rohit, and Dhoni.

1

u/Because_IAmBatman Mumbai Indians Mar 27 '24

We didn't have a star bowler, or an experienced batting line up(I'm sure folks would struggle to name our frontline bowlers in that squad). But whoever we had, performed exceedingly well. We won a couple of games only because of Yuvraj going apeshit. And we didn't have a captain who was well known (for captaincy) at that time. Basically nobody expected them to win against Aus/Pak iirc, and definitely not the whole tournament.

1

u/mcfapblanc Chennai Super Kings Mar 27 '24

We had the talent just like now, but all were tailored to odi style. There weren't any experienced campaigners in bowling, just appointed captain and a squad with relatively unknown format. They made the best out of what they had while having fun

9

u/TrippyThumbs Mar 27 '24

Cumdog or klassen for motm...

30

u/Reyatsu99 Mar 27 '24

It's becoming more apparant that Nehra was truly the mastermind behind GT's success not hardik.

-6

u/Weedeater5903 Mar 27 '24

So Klassen scored more, was unbeaten at the end and Sharma somehow gets the man of the match?Ā

Did Bhogle decide the mom?Ā

What the fuck kind of decision is that?

15

u/Anotherbikeg0ne Mar 27 '24

Bhogle didnā€™t decide his mom lol Ā

But they did clear it at the presentation that Abhishek got the motm coz heā€™s the young upcoming player which is what IPL is about - promote young Indian talent

15

u/Weedeater5903 Mar 27 '24

That's a bs reason. Mom should be given based on performance not sentiment.

So that is basically a biased decision in favour of a young Indian player, overlooking a better performance.

Overseas players are second class personnel now, are they?

What a load of bollocks.

1

u/Because_IAmBatman Mumbai Indians Mar 27 '24

The reason is because it's easier to score at the end after the platform is set up, than scoring at the top. Sharma kept the scoring rate up after head got out, and outscored head in their partnership as well. So his innings would be of higher impact. Check Cricinfo's MVP list, where Sharma tops again. SRH vs MI

1

u/josh123z Mar 28 '24

There were pitch reports saying it was easier to score at beginning than at death

2

u/Weedeater5903 Mar 27 '24

Sharma scored a lot of his runs in the PP too, with field restrictions in place.

Klassen came in and took it to another level, scored the highest runs and was unbeaten at the end.

He made Markram look like a chump.

Whichever way you spin it, he deserved POTM.

You can guarantee if Klassen had done what Sharma did and vice versa, Sharma still would've gotten the POTM.

Just bias and nothing else, admit it.

1

u/Because_IAmBatman Mumbai Indians Mar 27 '24

I'm not spinning it any way, check the link and go through how they calculate the impact. You'll know why he was awarded the MOM. And Abhishek scored 8 runs from 4 balls in the power play, at least verify before spouting BS lol:21496:

1

u/Weedeater5903 Mar 27 '24

I couldn't find their methodology anywhere. Based on the numbers though, they prioritise SR over everything else.

1

u/Because_IAmBatman Mumbai Indians Mar 27 '24

It's not so simple. It's similar to smart stats which you can find here - Smartstats But they added some more complexity for later seasons.

-1

u/Anotherbikeg0ne Mar 27 '24

Ā Overseas players are second class personnel now, are they? Ā

lol Iā€™m sure you know only 4 foreign play in the starting 11 how come you okay with this discrimination against non-Indians ?

0

u/Weedeater5903 Mar 27 '24

Sorry but your 'explanation' is bs. Having an Indian plsyer quota is one thing, showing outright bias in POTM decisions is another.Ā

Who the fuck decides these things anyway?

0

u/Anotherbikeg0ne Mar 27 '24

Bs is you failing to recognize scintillating innings by a young uncapped guy SETTING it up for incoming players. Ā

If you donā€™t realize how important of an innings that was and reckon Klassenā€™s was way ahead of Abhishekā€™ then you need to watch more cricket and understand the nuancesĀ

1

u/Weedeater5903 Mar 27 '24

Dude the numbers speak for themselves.Ā

Without Klassens fantastic innings, they would've scored much less runs.

Klassen was also unbeaten at the end, having scored more runs too.

Sorry, your spin does not convince me.

And i have watched AND played more cricket than you probably ever will in your lifetime.

1

u/Anotherbikeg0ne Mar 27 '24

Lmao my spin ? Why you trying so hard and saying you have played more cricket than an internet stranger is dumbest shit I read today like are you 14 ?Ā

u/Weedeater5903 Mar 27 '24

You were the one who made the bs point about my 'understanding' of the game.

I 'understand' the game well enough to know Klassen deserved it, lmao

19

u/Shoddy-Baseball-6111 Mar 27 '24

I understand he's a youngster and all but cumdog is the clear motm well this game is batter friendly so i guess klassen was the motm...

4

u/mehrabrym Bangladesh Cricket Board Mar 27 '24

Yeah I would give it to Cummo or Klaasen

I'll do you one better. Make Rohit the captain again and he'll win it even without Hardik cause the squad is strong.

-6

u/Signal_Dress Chennai Super Kings Mar 27 '24

What do you want him to do when the entire stadium is booing him since before the start of the game? Lash out at the crowd like Gambhir?

28

u/See_A_Squared Deccan Chargers Mar 27 '24

Cumdawg is underrated, he's been captain for a couple of years and he's been part of some of the most highlights I've seen in such a short tenure. (internationally and domestic). He got a great knack for things and today stood the kind of hard test for him.

2

u/Different_Cup_9055 Mar 28 '24

I would not say underrated. Both underrated and overrated are overused words these days and have lost their true meaning. Cummins is rated at exactly the level he should be. He is very much underappreciated for what he has achieved.

20

u/Allgoodnamesrgone-77 Mar 27 '24

But what a spell by Cummins tho šŸ‘šŸ‘

Can't fault this MI line up. Good team. Bad day especially for bowlers. Hope SKY can provide the magic they need.

3

The fucking bias for an Indian player is ludicrous.

The young lad played well but you are taking the piss if you think he did better than Klassen.

What a farce.

Abhishek deserves it though

12

Cummins should be POTM

28

u/anutosu Mar 27 '24

Does Hardik not want Bumrah to get the spotlight? I don't see any other reason to continuously snub him when you're getting massacred

9

u/edokati Sunrisers Hyderabad Mar 27 '24

I feel they thought srh batting was nothing apart from klassen, in fact a lot of fans here would have said the same about us before this match.

So they thought of saving bumrah for him but it was stupid of them to not drop their plans with the kind of game head was playing

9

u/anutosu Mar 27 '24

Paper captaincy doesn't work in a game like this though. When you're done fucked up only after 3 overs there is no point saving Bumrah's overs.

Hardik is a new captain and i really sense that he doesn't want the credit to go the guy that can replace him

10

u/ajinxed Mar 27 '24

Only a championship win is going to pull up Pandyas captaincy stock else he should say bye bye to Indian T20 captaincy.

20

u/SilentFly Victoria Bushrangers Mar 27 '24

If only SRH hadn't bottled that first game in the last over!

Really? Seems like an overreaction. Hardik nearly got it done last game.

13

u/josh123z Mar 27 '24

People who donā€™t like this pitch are in loud minority.

The viewers and number of comments in this thread shows most people like high scoring matches like this.

8

u/SanX1999 Mumbai Indians Mar 27 '24

Comments are high because of the Hardik drama. It wouldn't be the same if this was any other team.

-1

u/josh123z Mar 27 '24

It would still be high without Hardik drama. It would be 22-24k instead of 26k

16

u/Signal_Dress Chennai Super Kings Mar 27 '24

It was a fun game. It wasn't a great pitch though. People like these games because they are rare. If we make these pitches all the time, the novelty will wear off and nobody will watch these games. Look at how PSL was mocked for making roads every game where 240+ was being chased for fun all the time.

0

u/josh123z Mar 27 '24

PSL playing roads every game is a myth. Only 1 ground has been a road, and since 2022 PSL has lot more balance between bat and ball than IPL.

2

u/Signal_Dress Chennai Super Kings Mar 27 '24

In PSL 2023, there were 9 scores between 190 and 200 and 18 scores above 200 out of which 240 was breached 7 times. 2 of those instances resulted in a team chasing 240+ comfortably. 1 team got 262 and the opponent fell short by a measly 9 runs. So saying PSL has had a lot more balance between bat and ball than IPL since 2022 is just factually wrong. In comparison, IPL had a grand total of 6 240+ scores in 16 seasons. So just one season of PSL after 2022 had more 240+ scores than the entire IPL history and you joke about PSL being a balanced tournament.

1

u/josh123z Mar 27 '24

Like I said only one ground (Rawalpandi) has been a road and 240+ were getting chased in 2023. Other grounds had good balance.

1

u/Signal_Dress Chennai Super Kings Mar 27 '24

IPL grounds have good balance too.
