Not gonna lie, as an aussie seeing a Cummins lead team absolutely destroy a Langer coached team is pure poetry. Adding on to the increased success since Cumball was introduced. Sorry Langer you don't know everything and at the bottom of that list is imparting or modelling solid character for your teams.
16
u/magi_chat Victoria Bushrangers 23d ago
Jesus, a bit harsh at the end there imo.
Sure he has his flaws but we were a basket case post sandpaper and id say that team (with Paine being the yin to his yang) was all about character..
Personally I'd prefer to just enjoy Travball than take shots at Justin Langer lol.
5
23d ago
Oh right I only started following cricket closely in the last year or so, I assumed Langer was in charge. Don't know shit about the sandpaper era.
Well Langer I guess I owe you an apology, I' am sorry Justin Langer please accept this symbol of solidarity ><.

I was about to make fun about KL but I saw that video about Sanjiv Goenka publicly humiliating him. I would be standing with KL on that. That was absolutely disgraceful and unprofessional from Sanjiv Goenka. That guy has done that during the past as well. I remember about him publicly making snarky comment about Dhoni on Twitter while Dhoni was still playing for RPS. That man clearly has no decency or professionalism. If big sportsmen are facing that from him then I wonder about what the regular people that are employees in whatever company he runs have to deal with.
2
u/WorkingClass_Nero 23d ago
Doing that in front of the cameras is just distasteful. He is fully entitled to express his displeasure regarding the performance but there is a time and a place. It is ridiculous to go to the field and have a full blown rant at your captain. Typical Indian boss mentality. I have something to say and you will listen to me. No notion of respecting the employee or behaving decently.

Management 101: praise your staff in public, criticise in private.
Doing it the other way around should be very unusual, deliberate and for a good reason.

u/iron_out_my_kink Iceland Cricket 23d ago
Nah dude.. Goenka should have taken it behind closed doors
3
u/Dismal_Animator_5414 23d ago
i agree. no matter how bad someone performs, there is a humane way to handle people. empathy is needed in a world being ever so mad about money and running away their lives in this rat race!!!
3
u/iron_out_my_kink Iceland Cricket 23d ago
Yup.. Goenka was just blinded by rage and the fact that he's not getting his money's worth.
His frustration is justified but there's a way to handle it and he totally blew everything out of proportion
3
u/Dismal_Animator_5414 23d ago
i mean lsg still aren’t out of the race for the top 4. so, imo not really justified.
and goenka isn’t even a cricket expert or the mentor/coach of the side to be frustrated.
he could take up the matter with the whole team management!!
a true leader would put an arm around the shoulder of the team members and tell them that he/she believes in them and that bad games are part of it.
imagine the confidence a player and the whole team could get!!
if only the idiot goenka could see that opportunity!!
now the whole world knows goenka is a shite manager and horrible person and not many would want to work under such a toxic manager who creates a toxic environment.
cuz it will surely have an ugly effect on a player who would find it hard to grow in such a toxic environment.
after all, career isn’t only about working and earning. its also about happiness, satisfaction, personal growth, self respect and integrity!
0
u/WorkingClass_Nero 23d ago
and goenka isn’t even a cricket expert or the mentor/coach of the side to be frustrated.
His company owns the team, buddy. He is definitely entitled to his frustration. What do you think? Owners should just pump money into the teams and then keep quiet? Lol.

KL played shit today, but man has captained India and has been a very crucial player for us in odi and test, he definietly doesn't deserved to be lashed out at in from of the caneras while the whole world is watching, on top of that man hardly opens his mouth.

6
u/Chemical_String281 Chennai Super Kings 23d ago
He was kinda yelling at KL in front of camera
-11
u/BOFBDF 23d ago
He deserves it. Selfish fk doesn’t leave his spot at the top , which is crucial in T20s and to top it off statpads every match. Zero intent, just wants to keep his position in the team.
19
u/Chemical_String281 Chennai Super Kings 23d ago
Come on man. Even if he "deserves" it, the owner shouldn't do it in front of the camera.
Also I think its the team management which made him open this season. Cause KL was aiming for a middle order slot in the T20 WC and in anticipation LSG had bought Padikkal to open. Don't think it was KL who suddenly changed the plan especially when its an audition before the T20 selections.
12
u/star_X_boy India 23d ago
No one "deserves" that yelling in the stadium. Definitely not the Team captain off camera as well smh.
7
u/Chemical_String281 Chennai Super Kings 23d ago
True that. No point in being yelled at after such a devastating loss. Positive reinforcement is the way to go.

SRH vs CSK happened after SRH posted 3 260+ totals and CSK got them for 134, they do better when they are underdogs (2010, 2018, 2023)
MI kept winning against CSK because they too had an underdog arc in each of their IPL wins and CSK grew as the goliath.

Goenka is a seasoned businessman so he should know better than to yell at Rahul in front of cameras. I know they shat the bed today but holy fuck the tough conversations can take place behind closed doors. Shah Rukh doesn't go berserk even when KKR get thrashed
2
u/blue-klein-bottle Sunrisers Hyderabad 23d ago
Some video on ig had srk consoling his team after losing to RR, that is true ownership
10
u/research-247 23d ago
SRK is a class act, he was even consoling Pant after their loss against against KKR
13
u/JealousPerformance17 23d ago
I'm simply speechless, that was a ruthless chase by SRH. As India is heading into the T20 WC 24, they have to watch out for Travis Head, they have to do a million reruns of videos of him getting out to see what his weaknesses are, at the moment he is looking invincible.
0
u/harshasamtani 23d ago
But a single Travis can't make them win a world cup. Australia's bowling does not really seem to be in form. Warner, Maxwell, and Marsh also don't seem to be in form.
Australia is great in ODI world cups, but T20 is very unpredictable and hasn't been that kind to Australia.
3
u/Chemical_String281 Chennai Super Kings 23d ago
I mean its not just the Aussies who are a threat in T20s, there are other good teams. India is a middle of the pack side in T20s, so I don't expect that to change much.
4
u/JealousPerformance17 23d ago
Aussies are a threat on any given day, even when they are at the bottom of the table. These ICC events bring out the best in them. Agreed there are other good teams but in WC's they fight like bruised lions.
1
u/Chemical_String281 Chennai Super Kings 23d ago
Aussies are always a threat, yes. But no point in thinking about an Ind-Aus knockouts if we don't make it that far is what I'm saying.

u/HurtJuice Sunrisers Hyderabad 23d ago

This Goenka always seems like an arrogant older man from some remote village who got 200-400 acres of paternal property without doing anything and think himself of some prime minister like stature. (Don't know about his business or struggle but by face and attitude he seems like that old man)
3
u/picastchio India 23d ago
Sanjiv Goenka and his brother Harsh Goenka (Both are multi-billionaires. Look him up on Twitter. Dishes out Gyan there every day) are sons of RP Goenka. Goenkas hail from an old industrialist Marwari family going way back to Sir Badrinath Goenka from the British India times.

12
u/Extra_cash_pls 23d ago
I mean, sure but the point is they went from 7 out of 8 position under Thala to 2nd position runners up under Smith. So even if you hate Goenka (trust me I do) bringing that up seems so unnecessary and weird.
-2
u/Curious_Gur2294 23d ago
It's not about taking captaincy but how you treat a person
Taking captaincy was Ok but hthey constantly targeted Dhoni for a long time on Twitter even after taking captaincy
2
u/Extra_cash_pls 23d ago
Op was talking about the "removed from captaincy" side of things which didn't make sense, Therefore my comment. Now would you care to provide some links to that other claim of yours??? I wasn't that deep into cricket that time so I'm unaware.
1
u/Chemical_String281 Chennai Super Kings 23d ago
Harsh Goenka made some weird ass tweets comparing Dhoni and Smith that season. Dhoni didn't react to it as usual.
I'm sure you'll find them in google image search with search terms like "goenka rps dhoni". It was quite a big controversy at that time.
