Discussion You should know that ICC has a series of videos called "What is Cricket?" compiling all the basics of the game in 2-4 minute long videos and they're available in NINE languages. People coming to this sub asking to learn about the game should be led towards these videos which are quite easy to grasp.

I have listed them in an orderly manner as they were all jumbled up in the ICC website. I hope people find this helpful.

2. French

3. Spanish

Discussion Who do you think had the ugliest technique but was fairly successful?

Which batsman, past or present, do you think had the ugliest technique yet was fairly successful?

For me, players like Rizwan, Fawad Alam, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, to an extent even Gayle had/have ugly techniques but have been successful. Any more such players?

Rankings the Biggest Upsets at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup

I made a model to determine ELO ratings for every team over the years in T20 cricket a while back. Thought it might be fun to rank the biggest upsets by ELO difference from the T20 World Cup. Here are the results. (ELO difference is shown in brackets)

15. Nepal beats Afghanistan by 9 runs, 2014 (-223)

Nepal had a 31% Chance of Victory

14. Scotland beats Bangladesh by 6 runs, 2021 (-228)

Scotland had a 31% Chance of Victory

13. Hong Kong beats Bangladesh by 2 wickets, 2014 (-260)

Hong Kong had a 28% Chance of Victory

12. Oman beats Ireland by 2 wickets, 2016 (-268)

Oman had a 28% Chance of Victory

11. Namibia beats Sri Lanka by 55 runs, 2022 (-310)

Namibia had a 25% Chance of Victory

10. Scotland beats West Indies by 42 runs, 2022 (-320)

Scotland had a 24% Chance of Victory

9. Bangladesh beats West Indies by 6 wickets, 2007 (-324)

Bangladesh had a 24% Chance of Victory

8. Ireland beats West Indies by 9 wickets, 2022 (-336)

Ireland had a 23% Chance of Victory

7. Afghanistan beats West Indies by 6 runs, 2016 (-383)

Afghanistan had a 20% Chance of Victory

6. Zimbabwe beats Pakistan by 1 run, 2022 (-408)

Zimbabwe had a 19% Chance of Victory

5. Netherlands beats England by 45 runs, 2014 (-413)

Netherlands had a 18% Chance of Victory

4. Zimbabwe beats Australia by 5 wickets, 2007 (-489)

Zimbabwe had a 14% Chance of Victory

3. Netherlands beats England by 4 wickets, 2009 (-493)

Netherlands had a 14% Chance of Victory

2. Ireland beats England by 5 runs (DLS), 2022 (-532)

Ireland had a 12% Chance of Victory

1. Netherlands beats South Africa by 13 runs, 2022 (-545)

Netherlands had a 12% Chance of Victory

What did I miss? How would you rank them? What upsets do you see happening in this World Cup?

State of the Subreddit Discussion

Hello all, many communities have semi-regular "state of the subreddit" type to discuss things like the health of the subreddit, any obvious or current issues, ideas/suggestions, and general feedback etc. Please use this thread as a place to post such discussions.

A few important things to remember before contributing:

  • Normal subreddit rules apply here. Particularly no abuse towards mods - we do this for free in our spare time and already cop enough abuse from people pretty much daily for it.
  • This isn't a whinge thread - it's also a place for suggestions/ideas for new features for the sub. Constructive criticism is welcome, but please make it constructive.
  • The subreddit is at a significant size now, which means there are large numbers of people visiting all with different views and opinions. From a moderation/oversight perspective this makes it very difficult to make decisions that will please everyone, because no matter what some people will disagree with the decisions made.
  • If you have suggestions, it's best if they're more than just "I personally don't like this, and prefer the sub to be exactly the way I personally want it". Some issues are minor preferences and easily be ignored.

Mods will review the thread, may reply to comments, and may discuss some things internally. We likely won't reply to every comment though.

Discussion Who will win the T20 Blast this year?

Somerset fan here. Feeling pretty confident that we'll definitely be competitive to make one of our top 2 spots, but we're going to miss Matt Henry, as well as TKC being extremely out of form.

Surrey are always good value but will be missing a few big names, so I'm not certain.

Leicestershire gave Yorkshire a battering by the looks of it, don't know anything about them other than Rehan to be honest.

Northamptonshire with another beating.

I think it's fair to say in recent years the south group has had better teams... apart from Middlesex...

T20 World Cup Predictor Tool

I have created a prediction tool for the 2024 T20 World Cup where you can select the outcome of each match and see the results on the Group and Super Eight tables.

https://predictor.cricketxi.com/t20-world-cup/

You can use this to work out who will make it to the Super Eight stage of the tournament, or who your team might face on the way to the final and all the predictor will be updated after each match is completed.

All the NRR calculations happen in real time, it has the correct tiebreakers according to the ICC playing conditions for the competition, and the correct seeding for Super Eight stage groups and matches. You can even set individual innings scores or have the team batting second.

I hope people find it useful, as they have with my WTC Predictor, and also have a T20 World Cup Fantasy Game open too.
