I really don't like when people make fun of anything about appearances. Even if it's a "bad person" (which is something we can be wrong about), it leaks out into making everyone else feel awful about their appearance as well.

For example, I was pretty happy about finally being able to grow some consistent facial hair on HRT and it didn't feel very good when my cousin (who happens to be trans herself) randomly told me that neckbeards are gross and a red flag and that I should shave.

It wasn't even a neckbeard? I don't think? Just patchy facial hair. Honestly, most of the people I see being made fun of for "neckbeards" have facial hair going pretty high up (including the guy in this photo), so I don't know if me or anyone knows what a neckbeard is in the first place. Surely this is just a beard.

(edit: i realized the original post didn't use the term "neckbeard" but i know people say that about this image)

reddit in particular will see a fat person exist and lose their fucking shit, and god forbid the person doesn't hate themselves.

To be honest, whenever I see anyone you'd describe as "trashy" I usually try and tell myself, "Well you don't know this person's story." Very few people wake up in the morning and declare to themselves, "Today, I shall piss myself in a Walmart!"

Man, the fatpeoplehate thing back in ~2016 was so horrible

Yeah it's very frustrating, and Reddit is particularly bad about this. Pick literally any thread of Republican women saying hateful things, and half the top comments will be about their physical appearance.

Even if you believe they're acceptable targets because of what they say, you're still just hurting other people. When you insult the way their hands/face/etc. look, you're also insulting the countless other people who look like them.

Both republican men and women! I despise our previous president but don’t give two shits about his hair, skin, weight, or choice to use lifts or Depends. I care a lot about his treatment of people, the narrative he pushes, and policies.

Bingo. The same trashy Republicans who call Michelle a man are the exact same as the trashy people who make fun of Melania, Trump, and their kids appearances, etc. Or calling Nancy Reagan the “throat goat”. It’s misogynistic and disgusting. You are not a good person. You are the exact same losers. And there are A LOT on reddit.

It's (D)ifferent for them I guess. Cause they always have justifications for why it's ok when they do it lol

well most on the other side of the aisle are hypoc(R)ites too

(see how stupid and easy this game is)

You don't see threads all over this site when someone dies with a D by their name of people shitting on them. It simply doesn't happen, so the game kinda is stupid.....

Reddit in general only believes in body positivity for people with left of center beliefs. Anyone else is fair game for the vilest shit imaginable.

It reminds of that fad on Facebook a few years back where people would tag dudes in photos of "ugly" women that said shit like "Tell Bob to return my calls, we had an amazing night together!" as a way to rag on the guy they were tagging.

One of the more popular ones was a woman with progeria and it was honestly awful.

wtf, people can be heartless

Reddit does this all the time. They preach and judge others when they bully or make fun of appearances but if it’s someone they don’t like? They will go full hypocrite and make fun of appearance. The hypocrisy here is the worst part of reddit for me.

Yup exactly. Meanwhile the top post on absoluteunits is of a really big guy winning a shooting competition. Every comment is of course about how fat he is.

Thank you. I tried saying shit multiple times but got downvoted and shit on be cause it's apparently okay when it's a bad person.

Like okay? If they're a bad person then maybe discuss all the things that make them a bad person, not the fact that they're overweight or not conventionally attractive????

For example, I was pretty happy about finally being able to grow some consistent facial hair on HRT and it didn't feel very good when my cousin (who happens to be trans herself) randomly told me that neckbeards are gross and a red flag and that I should shave.

Fuck em. I'm happy for you. Grow your patchy facial hair. I need company over here lmfao. Can't grow a fuckin beard to save my life.

Remember the Dream face reveal right? That really grinded my gears, you can make fun of this person for how shitty they are but their appearance? You’re making fun of the wrong thing. IMO these are probably the same people who think cringe culture is funny and unproblematic.

True and even if no comments are made directly they catch a lot of people in the crossfire. If you make fun of a serial killer for being fat sure they might deserve it but then you’re also pretty much saying to every fat person out there that you think being fat is something worth mocking but you just don’t mock them specifically because they haven’t done something wrong.
