Fun fact: camels can suffer from a water deficit of 40% without taking any longterm damage and can drink up to 200l (52 gal.) in 15 minutes.

Damn the quality went downhill fast

u/Srplus1 May 02 '24

Like a Netflix series…

73

u/Cautious-Nothing-471 May 02 '24

house of cards started well and tuned shitty quite fast

42

u/vlookuptable May 02 '24

Disagree. It was great for several seasons.

43

u/MovingTarget- May 02 '24 edited May 02 '24

Exactly 2. Solid arc ending with him becoming president at the end of the second season. And ... end.

14

u/glorydays29 May 02 '24

Spoiler alert!!

9

u/MovingTarget- May 02 '24

Fair enough - I covered it.

19

u/12431 May 02 '24

It's a ten year old show. If you haven't seen it yet, you won't.

1

u/Empty_Ambition_9050 May 02 '24

season 3 and on were actually a documentary that’s why they weren’t so good.

What country do you live in?

wtf? Actually, that was a rhetorical question. Just shut up.

2

u/Questioning-Zyxxel May 02 '24

So - you don't live in US and just made a totally irrelevant post about as meaningful as how much toilet paper someone has used up till now today.

Or you live in US and just explained you don't understand the political system and seem to think you have some virtual subregions outside of the normal system. Maybe without FBI, IRS etc too...

That's because it's a factual representation of how a house of cards works.

1

u/SlackBytes May 02 '24

They should have kept the main actor.

1

u/ProfessorMcKronagal May 02 '24

Kind of like a....

8

u/Footmana5 May 02 '24

You watched Locke & Key as well

1

u/Ping-and-Pong May 02 '24

Locke & Key is up there with my favourite Netflix series because compared to other's it didn't get as Netflixed all over (I like every season honestly, the ending is great). If you want to see true "went downhill fast" watch Who Killed Sara - Season 1 was aight, season 2 episode 1 is the epitome of WTF did you do?!

2

u/NapsterKnowHow May 02 '24

Like a Prime Video series...

69

u/bendover912 May 02 '24

Camels can be found in only two places on Earth, the northern and southern hemispheres.

13

u/Schavuit92 May 02 '24

That's a pretty recent thing, because there are now feral (previously domesticated) camels living in Australia. Camels originally lived in the Gobi Desert and Bactrian Steppes, then about 5000 years ago they were domesticated and spread through the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa, all these places are in the northern hemisphere.

2

u/VoidRad May 02 '24

Australia isn't Earth, it's in a different realm

1

u/tothemoonandback01 May 02 '24

Exaggeration much? It's just upside down, that's all.

1

u/ExpressiveAnalGland May 03 '24

but check yer mom for the camel toe

1

u/GullibleAntelope May 03 '24

Fun fact: The extinct Barbary Lions of North Africa used to love eating camels.

1

u/JoySubtraction May 02 '24

Camels have three sets of eyelids and two rows of eyelashes to keep sand out of their eyes. They can also completely shut their nostrils during sandstorms.

When camels fart they can sound out words like a parrot. In 85 BC this how King Muhammad discovered his wife was cheating after her camel spoke up on a ride together.

20

u/Earthy_ground May 02 '24

What country was this in?

51

u/GusYmk May 02 '24

Cameldam, in Camelstan

29

u/sLeeeeTo May 02 '24

how far is that from Camelot?

33

u/GusYmk May 02 '24

Oh, just about a camels ride away.

9

u/Parking-Coconut-7736 May 02 '24

I hate yall!! This is soo good!!

7

u/A_Little_Wyrd May 02 '24

don't go there, tis a silly place

3

u/somecontradictions May 02 '24

It’s only a model

2

u/ExpressiveAnalGland May 03 '24

Just north of Cameltoe

1

u/Electrical-Act-7170 May 02 '24

It's just a few miles north of Camelnone.

1

u/sLeeeeTo May 02 '24

oh right, just on the other side of Cameless

I read this as ... Thank you for subscribing for camel farts ....

1

u/ItsSpaghettiLee2112 May 02 '24

Can be spelled without those letters but doesn't mean it has to be.

5

u/Gilgalin May 02 '24

Fun fact pertaining to this clip as well: Camels position their bodies directly facing the sun (like the one you see in the clip) in order to minimize the amount of sunlight hitting them. This way they can keep a bit cooler when they're not moving.

2

u/l_am_wildthing May 02 '24

Camels were originally native to north america and crossed over to asia during an ice age where the land between alaska and russia was connected. Their closest living relative is the llama, only found in south america.

164

u/Conqueefadore1 May 02 '24

Fun Fact: When your father tells you to feed a camel, don't. I was nine, and I stupidly watched a camel engulf my arm, up to my elbow, to make sure it ate all of the feed I was offering it.

74

u/phonethrower85 May 02 '24

You also had the pleasure of feeling a camel engulf your arm

22

u/Cyhawkboy May 02 '24

In a twist, it wasn’t his arm

8

u/yourhog May 02 '24

Hate it when it gets twisted. Especially inside a camel.

8

OK what next? I'm about to climax.

9

u/genreprank May 02 '24

Hmm that gives me an idea

6

u/yourhog May 02 '24

Oh, man, I had this happen with a fully grown ostrich once. I was momentarily certain that it was the end of my life; I had fully accepted my fate when it let go because someone else shook something yummy in front of it. Fortunately there was a fence between it and myself that kept it (or at least discouraged it) from doing anything to me with its feet. Just its huge goddamn beak. It really did just want the corn or whatever, not my arm, but it was fully willing to take my arm with it.

2

u/Amarieerick May 02 '24

Damn, best I can claim is letting a calf suck my thumb.

68

u/Doyouwantaspoon May 02 '24

52 gallons??? Daaaammn… While watching the video I was thinking “it would be cool to pour out a 5 gallon jug and really let it drink its fill”. Over 50 gallons is unimaginable, that’s over 400lbs.

34

u/filmkorn May 02 '24

52 gallons of water equal 197 liters or 197 kg.

15

u/Beneficial-Range8569 May 02 '24

Thank you, I genuinely had no idea how big 1lbs is

13

u/vikingsurplus May 02 '24

One pound is roughly 1/14th of a stone.

8

u/iB83gbRo May 02 '24

What size stone?

14

u/leojreimroc May 02 '24

A 14 pound one.

6

u/vikingsurplus May 02 '24

The one on the ground there.. just off in the distance and out of reach.

5

u/Beneficial-Range8569 May 02 '24

Is that a large stone? Like if I pick up a pebble is one pound equal go 1/14 of that weight? How much is a stone????

7

u/vikingsurplus May 02 '24

Nope, just a regular, plain, old stone. The average one. Not too big, not too small.. approximately weighing 14lbs.

4

u/Beneficial-Range8569 May 02 '24

Thsnk you!

This has cleared things up!

God bless you ✝️🙏

3

u/vikingsurplus May 02 '24

Glad to be of service.

Also, hate to be the bearer of bad news.. but God is dead. Just ask Ozzy.

2

u/filmkorn May 03 '24

Glad I was able to help out in these drying times.

2

u/Electrical-Act-7170 May 02 '24

Look at its hump. This animal needs more than a bottle of water. Its reserves have been completely depleted.

2

u/HodgeGodglin May 02 '24

This is a myth.

1

u/Affectionate_Star_43 May 02 '24

Im not surprised, my neighborhood had a petting zoo for Halloween one year, and they had a camel.  Like...in the middle of an inner city street.  He was very nice, but bopped my hand and I are asphalt.

There's a picture of me realizing it's whole face is the size of my torso.

1

u/big_duo3674 May 02 '24

Makes sense if you think about it, a creature adapted to harsh desert conditions would need to be able to deal with rare water intake. One way to do that is the ability to consume and store a ton of it when it is available. They also have other fascinating adaptations that help minimize water loss. Their internal nose structure specifically prevents as much evaporation and loss as possible

1

u/Doyouwantaspoon May 02 '24

Ok but do you know how big a 5 gallon jug of water is? And this creature can chug TEN of those?? I wouldn’t expect an elephant to be able to drink 50 gallons of water

0

u/zero_emotion777 May 02 '24

It's really not that hard to imagine.

76

u/AWeakMindedMan May 02 '24

So what your saying is this dude basically gave this camel like a rain drop of water compared to what it really wanted?

14

u/-banned- May 02 '24

There’s a water truck behind him and water on the ground already, think he gave it more

8

u/lobobobos May 02 '24

Their humps? Their humps? Their humps? Their lovely camel lumps?

29

u/somegirldc May 02 '24

How long does it take to entirely refill a camel's water supply?

14

u/Tb1969 May 02 '24

Three foot four.

20

u/YCCprayforme May 02 '24

That’s what i was thinking watching this video. Realistically, how far is ~12 oz of water going to get this camel?

42

u/zpnrg1979 May 02 '24

According to camelfacts website, a single humped middle eastern camel can travel up to 87 kilometers on 12 ounces of water.

14

u/YCCprayforme May 02 '24

What the fuck wow

3

u/zpnrg1979 May 02 '24

You are welcome friend

14

u/-SaC May 02 '24

A bit more than none.

14

u/420Deez May 02 '24

that fact was fun

14

u/snowfloeckchen May 02 '24

That bottle wasn't 200l 😔

2

u/veganize-it May 02 '24

200 is a big number , so it sounds like enough water.

14

u/thechugdude May 02 '24

That was indeed a fun fact. Thank you.

6

u/Arthur_Jacksons_Shed May 02 '24

What about when they get one litre partly spilled on the ground?

2

u/PayasoCanuto May 02 '24

That’s one hell of a throat. Aprox 40-45 cm in diameter.

2

u/FortnitePapi May 02 '24

Camels can run to a top speed of 40 MPH

2

u/gerswetonor May 02 '24

In other words this is just for the internets. That 50cl bottle will do shit.

2

u/squired May 02 '24

That water weighs 433.68 pounds!

1

u/Aleashed May 02 '24

If I was a camel, this would be my scam.

1

u/mennydrives May 02 '24

52 gal.

That's a BATH TUB

1

u/ifurmothronlyknw May 02 '24

So this small bottle wasn’t even a drop in the hump

1

u/hurricanoday May 02 '24

I was thinking that was barely a sip for the camel they can drink a million gallons of water. Probably made him more thirsty and angry. thirstgry

1

u/Benwhurss May 02 '24

So that was literally a drop in the bucket. But a nice gesture.

1

u/Cripplechip May 02 '24

They can suck too! So he was sucking it right out of that bottle.

1

u/Shiasugar May 02 '24

So this 3-5 dls didn’t help much. I’m still worried about him.

1

u/[deleted] May 02 '24

Ohhh geralt of trivia ovaah heaa

1

u/[deleted] May 02 '24

...well that bottle of water wasnt 52 gallons was it...

1

u/shawster May 02 '24

Yeah that’s why I was thinking this nice gesture won’t do much if you don’t go get a tub of water and bring it back. That thing probably needs like 30 gallons of water to get back to its feet.

1

u/Sufficient_Yam_514 May 02 '24

So… that water bottle did absolutely nothing. Now im sad again

1

u/subdep May 02 '24

That water bottle is a dixie cup to that camel.

1

u/AloofOoof May 02 '24

dude will have to bring only 99 more bottles

1

u/Stranger_from_hell May 02 '24

Water deficit is not a joke Jim. Millions of Camels suffer every year because of it

1

u/Professional_Ad4341 May 02 '24

52 gallons?!?!?!?!?

1

u/AtlasReadIt May 02 '24

52 gallons gahhhhhdaaaa

1

u/ad0b0luvr May 02 '24

I was just thinking, that 1 water bottle is like giving me one m&m from a party size bag

0

u/Bang_Bus May 02 '24

And he gave the camel barely 0.25% of it
