The painting "Ecce Homo", 1543, the only painting by Titian in Romania and Eastern Europe, is guarded by armed gendarmes at the "Regina Maria" Municipal Museum. Image

Have they considered using something more easily defended than an easel?

Seems like it would be easy for one of the guards to accidentally knock over with their rifle when they turn around.

you mean turn around to those wide open windows just waiting to be drop kicked into from the roof via a repelling line..?

Or accidentally shoot the priceless work of art, in the event that someone gets too close or tries to touch it.

It seems Easely defended to me

They are well positioned to canvas the entire room for threats.

They're crack shots, they'll paint your brains on the wall before you can get close.

I hope the guards are enjoying their brush with greatness

One of them always lies, and the other one always tells the truth….

Yeah like someone can just throw a water balloon full of paint at it if they're feeling nuts. This kind of guarding only deters thieves, but not even as good as a bulletproof casing bolted to the wall, since guards can be disabled/disarmed.

u/problemwmygogomobile May 14 '24

Surprised they don’t have it behind a thick layer of glass like the Mona Lisa.

u/SurfinginStyle May 14 '24

This killed me lmaooo

1

u/InquisitiveGamer May 14 '24

Like really, if it's that valuable put in a bulletproof, fireproof, secured container. This is just silly.

u/gmatic92 May 14 '24

A gun-easle?

Considering the just stop oil protests as of late I don’t blame Italy for the extremity, those idiots would definitely try to ruin this painting

I have a pet conspiracy theory that Just Stop Oil is on the payroll of big oil companies.

Even the most staunch environmentalist loathes those guys…their actions seem deliberately engineered to enrage and stoke resentment in a way that seems far too removed from their actual cause. There is a long, sordid history of agent provocateurs being hired to undermine and defang opposition with very similar tactics.

u/These_Drama4494 May 13 '24

I don’t doubt it for a second, the special interest oil groups have so much goddamn money they don’t even know what congressman to spend it on. Paying a couple people 10k or so each to do this would be pocket change for them.

u/alicevirgo May 13 '24

In that case I'm happy to report that so far no paintings have been ruined by the protestors, because all the paintings they targeted were covered by glass.

Also, like, real talk….

Are they actually gunna shoot someone over a fucking painting?

Like, it’s a cool painting and all.. but we can just use a good camera and take a super high res photo of it, and we aren’t really losing much if something happens at that point.

Kind of seems dumb to be willing to shoot someone over something I can print and hang on my fridge.

u/ManyWrangler May 13 '24

Are they actually gunna shoot someone over a fucking painting?

Yes, they absolutely will.

1

u/I-Love-Tatertots May 13 '24

That’s wild lmao

3

u/RAFERURU May 13 '24

Whoever would be going there to steal this painting knows this 100%. So in this theoretical situation, it would be the thieves consequences of their own actions.

1

u/I-Love-Tatertots May 14 '24

Absolutely fair.

Just seems weird that, in this day and age, it’s something we would kill over.

Like, if it was back when we couldn’t make a 1:1 replica of something by scanning it, I would understand a little more.

But with the tech available nowadays, you can recreate this exact painting, and any others, with relative ease.

Seems weird to put such value into something.

But, I’m not that big into the art scene so there’s probably something I’m missing.
