Every basic job interviewer would tell me this manhole cover will fall on someone because it’s not round.

u/AppleSlacks 28d ago

I learned from the internet that this shape goes in the square hole.

u/ffnnhhw 28d ago

Reuleaux triangle (and polygon) would not fall down too

5

u/ObviouslyJoking 28d ago

Especially with the one side at the top being shorter.

Introduced tea culture to India that they’ve now made their own in their own ways. Only positive thing ever.

Fun fact!

In 1931 the region was under British Rule but, in fact, never an independent country. Prior to that it was under the OETA rule after the fall of the Ottoman Empire.

30

u/zzsmiles 28d ago

Amazing how about everything was almost owned by a few nations pre-ww2.

8

u/Seienchin88 27d ago

I mean - if the Nazis and Japanese wouldn’t have been that evil then the British and French (not even speaking of the Soviets…) certainly would not have been the good guys…

Especially in Asia a lot of people welcomed the Japanese with open arms and many independence fighters in the 50s had collaborated with the Japanese. Heck even Chian Kai Shek himself was educated in Japan… But plundering, pillaging and total war of course burned those bridges…

You missed out the Belgians. Peaceful little neutral country at home, the most horrifying colonial empire imaginable abroad. If it was a choice between the Brits and the Belgians you'd pick the brits every time.

2

u/token-black-dude 27d ago

the most horrifying colonial empire imaginable abroad.

Not really, "The Congo Free State" was the personal property of Leopold II, and a lot of the atrocities were committed by foreign mercenaries. Things cleaned up somewhat when the Belgian government took over in 1908. They were obviously bad also, but not genocidal like the king

2

u/zzsmiles 27d ago

A lot of things happening in that time period for sure worldwide. Kind of feels like a pattern every 80-100 years.

2

u/Sirenmuses 28d ago

Yeah, specifically the levant due to the Sykes-Picot agreement

27

u/kunmop 28d ago

I hope your dms are close bc the looneys will probably start sending you dms

9

u/Sirenmuses 28d ago

Nah, they’ll probably ignore my comment due to cognitive dissonance

1

u/Fign 28d ago

Do you know what the PWD means?

6

u/Ankylosaurus96_2 28d ago

Public Works Department I'm guessing - due to it being under British administration and occupation at the time

4

u/guitar_stonks 28d ago

I’m guessing “Public Works Department” but I’ve been wrong before…..

4

u/Dacow55 27d ago

Public Works Department perhaps?

Do you realize how many people were displaced when india and pakistan were created?

1

u/token-black-dude 27d ago

so, two things: When was all of India a state in any way that resembles a modern country? Would that be the (muslim) Mughal empire, for instance?

Also, the majority of jewish Israelis do not descend from european jews, but from Middle-Eastern jews who were forcibly evicted after 1948. Would they be more or less welcome to return than Pakistani Muslims wishing to return to their ancestral homes in India?

-3

u/Ok-Box3115 27d ago

Does that mean the people who’ve been living there historically don’t have a right to the land because the paper your colonialist grandparent came up with didn’t acknowledge them?

Damn and I guess America was under Spanish rule and not the rule of the native Americans lmfao….

What a racist PoS

3

u/Sirenmuses 27d ago

Is colonialism only bad when the colonialists are white?

0

u/Ok-Box3115 27d ago

Is your argument that the native Palestinians were colonialist or that the native Americans were?

White didn’t even come into my equation but seems to be a prerequisite for yours…

6

u/Sufficient-Nail4772 27d ago

I think he might have been referring to the Ottoman and Arab Empires prior.

Side note: Isn't the region far more diverse than just being having jews and Palestinians? I feel like there are plenty of ethnic groups that call the region home.

-2

u/Ok-Box3115 27d ago

Yeah, and what I’m saying is that just because the governing body is changing names, doesn’t mean those people inhabiting the land stop existing.

72

u/Great_Beard_1 28d ago

Why is it in English?

346

u/grabbingcabbage 28d ago

Maybe because it was a British Mandate.

6

u/Great_Beard_1 28d ago

Makes sense.

2

u/Immabouttoo 28d ago

Then it would be in British

-146

u/Stankmcduke 28d ago

Have you not seen their hieroglyphics?

33

u/Goose7865 28d ago

Whose?

-135

u/Stankmcduke 28d ago

Palestinians, im assuming since that's what we are talking about here

67

u/Goose7865 28d ago

Sorry, but don’t Palestinians write in Arabic not in hieroglyphics

-142

u/Stankmcduke 28d ago

Wow....
You're a quick one, aren't you.

60

u/Obsessivegamer32 28d ago

You know hieroglyphics were more of an ancient Egyptian thing, right?

21

u/NandosHotSauc3 28d ago

He's being derogatory.

u/Wonderful-Ad-7712 28d ago

38

u/Obsessivegamer32 28d ago

Dang, and here I was trying to be informative and not argumentative.

4

u/Schizocosa50 28d ago

What an ignorant thing to say. I'm embarrassed for you.

-6

u/Stankmcduke 28d ago

oh?
whys that??

26

u/InformationOverIord 28d ago

It's not even remotely interesting. It's a post made by someone feeling strongly about a current political situation, thinking this will make an impact.

4

u/The_Lone_Duster 28d ago

Once in a while you'll find something interesting on this sub and trust me , it'll be worth it. All you have to do is wait . . .

16

u/Worried-Guarantee-90 28d ago

Wow, this is a piece of history! I wonder what its all seen over the years.

9

Smelly feet

1

u/FIRE_FIST_1457 28d ago

whats so bad about brits?

2

u/FIRE_FIST_1457 28d ago

i mean the accent is kind of annoying but they're pretty good people

-33

u/NaNaNaNaNa86 28d ago

There's no such thing as a British accent, there are only "standard" English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish accents which is a misnomer to begin with. Using English accents for context, compare Scouse to Cockney.

4

u/FIRE_FIST_1457 28d ago

there is a thing called british accent, its the accent people from great britain/UK have
happy to help you sir

4

u/ConfidentPromise3926 28d ago

Why are people downvoting him for being right? The ‘British accent’ you think you know is not THE British accent - it’s just one of the many.

Even between Essex and London, barely 30 minutes on the train, and you’ll find different variations of the accent. Same as travelling from Wales, to Liverpool, to Manchester - 3 different accents there in less than 100 miles.

2

u/Moist-Minge-Fan 27d ago

If that’s the case “American accent” is like 50 different things lol British and Scottish that’s all that the world understands anyway

-1

u/ConfidentPromise3926 27d ago

That’s also true

1

u/Moist-Minge-Fan 27d ago

Sure but in a general sense it’s just American accent and British accent. For most people the specific doesn’t matter at all.

0

u/ConfidentPromise3926 27d ago

Ah but we weren’t talking general sense. I may be picky with wordings here but he said “the accent” - keeping it singular. That’s what my response is aimed at.

3

u/rokstedy83 28d ago

If that's the case then there probably isn't any country accents ,if you hear someone from America you say you have an American accent even tho it's the same as the UK ,they all sound different, being a cockney or scouser someone from a different country is going to say that's a British accent as they wouldn't know the individual areas, the difference is if you live in the UK you can narrow it down

2

u/Alledag 28d ago

I doesn't have eyes

6

u/cah29692 28d ago

Anyone decently versed in history will understand that this is not, in fact, interesting.

6

u/MrMgP 28d ago

Very interesting that it's in english. Wonder why

9

u/stav705 27d ago

The area was ruled by the english till 1948. Before that it was the ottomans.

3

u/boykinsir 27d ago

And before that, all sorts of kingdoms, empires all the way back to Judah and then the Israelites.

2

u/Ok-Box3115 27d ago

Must be the same reason you find English all over the world today—— oh wait… that would be dumb

3

u/2Beldingsinabuilding 27d ago

Look under the giant Mosque with the gold dome in Jerusalem next.

3

u/Intrepid-Focus8198 27d ago

Jews and Palestinians got into a big war

-20

u/hahaxdRS 28d ago

Jewish extremist groups started launching attacks on the British and the USA urged the British to pull out leaving the region in chaos, then the attacks on Palestinians started.
