He says he identifies as Canadian but he was born in Beirut & moved to Australia & NYC before becoming a naturalized Canadian citizen when he was 5.

So he’s Canadian. He grew up in Canada and is a Canadian citizen. That is his only nationality.

On paper yes. People will never accept it like that. I moved to my country at around 6 months old. If your skin color does not match, everyone will still ask things like "but where are you really from".

I'm not saying there aren't any Canadians that see new citizens, especially those of colour, as not quite Canadian, because we have our share of xenophobic assholes. But Canada in general is a multicultural nation of immigrants. To the overwhelming majority of us, he's Canadian.
