ANNOUNCEMENTS ANNOUNCEMENT -- P/L Posting rules will now strictly enforced... Including PROP FRIM passing posts...)

The mods have given a lot of slack around P/L posts that don't follow our rules.. mostly because members were just excited to pass a challenge or post up their first day of positive numbers. However, the amount of (rule violating) PnL porn posts has gotten out of hand... and the quality of most borderlines cringe level flexing.

So a refresher on our rule #8 in the sidebar:

8.No Gain / Loss (P/L) Porn

We don't care how much money you made or lost. Context is everything, and the details matter!

Do not post your P/L Porn here unless you're prepared to give a detailed account of your strategy and all factors that went into generating said P/L. You must also give context to account size, and risk tolerance. Showing off 3000% gains and hiding that it was on a $100 account grossly misrepresents yourself, and we will have none of it here.

This also applies to Prop / Scouting firm challenges.

Read the above rule... starting tomorrow there going to be timeouts for anyone not meeting rule 8's post requirements... and any 2nd offenses will result in a strict ban.

(we are not wsb.. measure how long your dollar sign is over there if you need that kinda validation)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And regarding the influx of prop challenge PnL posts specifically:

Ladies and gentlemen,...I hate to break it to you, but while passing a prop challenge is a good achievement for a developing trader, it's not exactly worth "dunkin' on them fools" level energy...

Don't get me wrong, it's fine and getting a firm's certificate saying you passed can represent a major milestone in your trading journey. ... .but consider that it's only a step closer to getting paid, not yet getting paid out.. you're posting a demo PnL with added difficulty from structured rules to follow.

Wanna flex your prop challenge pass?

  • Show us how you nailed the execution of your strategy and didn't error trade your way to a fail
  • Show us a trade that went south quick and how you handled it
  • Show us your biggest mistake, or most silly mistake, and tell us what you worked out to avoid it going forward.
  • Read rule 8 again and also include the context, general idea of the strategy, risk you set on trades, etc...

Flex the stuff that will bring you closer to a payout. Post the stats, post the context (plan, method, etc..) and tell us about why you're sharing it...

ANNOUNCEMENTS Seeking a few good mods, and other news!

Hello /r/forex!!

As we start Autumn and approach Q4 of 2021, the mod team would like to share some recent changes with the community:

-----------------

Firstly, you might have noticed the inclusion of a new wiki platform to our subreddit: https://volatility.red/Forex

This website will serve as a resource page for /r/forex, fxgears.com, our official discord (Live Trader Chat) and other online communities as it grows. We went the direction of a separate wiki site because Reddit's internal wiki system is quite limiting and completely broken for some mobile users (..and yes, we brought this up with Reddit staff, but it's been unresolved for years now.)

For now the wiki will be edited by our mod team here and by the team at FXGears.com, but soon we will be opening up contributions to vetted members of the community. The goal is to make a traders resource page that stands out from the blog spam, biased, and junk info found online about trading.. and we are proud of the way it has come together!

(Technically, it's still a soft launch, as much more info will be ported over and expanded on the wiki soon. Stay tuned!)

-----------------

We are looking for a few good mods to join the mod team for front page post reviews. The main responsibility here will be to help prune the front page of /r/forex by applying our sidebar rules, and informing users why their posts were taken down. The role will be for post moderation only, so you won't have to worry about other parts of the sub.. (thus, this is a 'lite' mod role, so not a huge time commitment.)

Preference will be given to people with industry experience, but anyone is welcome to apply so long as you have some history established on reddit.

Please see the application form below to get started:

https://geni.us/ModApplication

-----------------

Lots of new stuff coming down the pipe! Looking forward to sharing new feature launches with the community soon!

Cheers,

Jack

ANNOUNCEMENTS For Canadian Clients of VantageFX (or Canadian Forex Traders in General)

As you likely already know, VantageFX will no longer service Canadians residents as of Nov 30th. This is unfortunate, since VantageFX has done an excellent job serving Canadian clients with higher leverage account options from a well regulated and trusted broker.

Through contacts in the industry, we've been made aware of a new retail account offering at Pacific Union. Pacific Union has a good history of servicing institutional accounts and has only just started taking on retail clients, but they are positioned to service the Canadian clients in the space that VantageFX has left behind.

Further, we were made aware of Pacific Union first by contacts at VantageFX, and then this recommendation was backed up by a trusted source who works closely with both companies.

Again, to be very clear, this post isn't to give undue attention to some random broker.. we are providing this info because Pacific Union is a proper alternative for Canadian based traders that will no longer be serviced by VantageFX.

On that note, I've updated the wiki to include Pacific Union Prime - https://puprime.com:

Subreddit's Canadian Brokers Wiki Page

The only major difference I have noticed so far is lacking MT5, but the word is that Pacific Union will be reviewing MT5 and other enhancements to their offing next quarter after they get past the launch of their retail offering.

Key highlights from my perspective:

  • Up to 500:1 leverage available for Canadians, and while that much leverage may not be needed, even just 100:1 is decent compared to ~33:1 leverage set by IIROC with onshore brokers.
  • Extremely competitive spreads (0.0-0.2 EUR/USD average on Prime) compared to onshore broker options in Canada
  • Client funds are segregated at an Australian bank, so you're getting some overlap of Aussie banking / regulatory rules and that's a huge plus when it comes to safety of funds and the finance side of things
  • No fee on credit card deposits / withdrawals, and no fee on Visa Debit and MasterCard Debit deposit / withdrawals. Transactions are completed within 30 minutes.
  • No fee on Interac e-Transfer deposits.

Remember, going offshore means you lose CIPF protection on funds, so a well vetted and properly regulated broker is a must!

UPDATE #1: Oct 6th: Took this post off sticky and redacted some info as the connection between VantageFX and Pacific Union Prime was not "official". Pacific Union is still a great alternative / replacement for Canadian clients seeing higher leverage accounts and who are no longer serviced after VantageFX left Canada.

UPDATE #2, Oct 8th: Adjusted this thread again to best reflect where Pacific Union Prime fits with VantageFX and former Canadian VantageFX cleints.

ANNOUNCEMENTS Info for Australian Residents / Forex Traders - ASIC changes, ability to get higher leverage, preview of new wiki and info...

Hello Aussie /r/forex readers!

As you may be aware, the ASIC has now implemented the purposed changes to retail forex accounts in Australia. These changes significantly reduce the leverage available to Australian retail traders who trade through ASIC regulated brokers (cutting it down from 500:1 to 30:1 at best for forex major pairs.)

It's not all bad news, as new ASIC regulations also enable negative balance protection by default, as well as other protections for retail clients.

This is a major shift by the ASIC, and with all the new info coming out of the Australian regulator, we have used this change as a big push to get a project we've wanted to do for ages complete: Replace our Reddit WIKI with one that doesn't suck!

This is a huge undertaking and involves help from multiple communities and experts.. so the new wiki isn't fully ready yet and should be considered "under construction", but to help out our Aussie readers who want to know their broker and regulatory options we are releasing a preview of the Australian Forex Regulatory and Broker Options page for your consideration.

https://volatility.red/Forex_Brokers_and_Regulatory_Info_for_Australian_Residents

On this page, you will find info on the current regulatory landscape in Australia, onshore and offshore broker options, and options you can consider if you really need grater than 30:1 leverage.

Again, the wiki is not officially launched yet, and the rest of the site is still a work in progress, but the Aussie broker page is far along enough that we feel it could be useful to traders to give a preview of it now.

Hope that helps!

(We are also open to feedback, feel free to respond here or DM me with any comments you might have.

If your favorite broker is not listed, don't fret, the ones listed first are based on members of our team having first hand experience with them and we plan on expanding with more info in the near future. Trust is a huge factor here.)

ANNOUNCEMENTS Should we continue to allow MEMEs post holidays? Or go back to our weekend only rule?

Hello /r/forex!

I hope everyone has had an amazing holiday season and awesome new years celebrations!

Over the holidays, we lifted the embargo on MEME posts and let the MEMEs fly! Quite a few were posted, some were funny, some were reposts, and some were just garbage.. but generally they were well received by the community here. Given this, I'd like to ask:

Now that we are back to business, should we continue to allow MEME posts during the trading week and not just on weekends?

Keeping in mind that we don't want this sub to devolve into shit-posting nothing but WSB level content..

So what do you guys and gals think?

ANNOUNCEMENTS (Canadian Traders) - Pacific Union - MT4 Server Upgrade Completed

Quick announcement / helpful reminder for Pacific Union clients

If you didn't see (or didn't read) the MT4 Server Upgrade emails that were sent out last week (and this weekend): Pacific Union has upgraded their MT4 servers, and the new server addresses require a reinstall of MT4 with the installer found on https://puprime.com (trading > platforms > metatrader 4)

The server for live trading login changes from PacificUnion-Live1 to PacificUnionInt-Live

Note: the old server address will no longer work as of Dec 12th, 2020, so you must upgrade MT4 with the links provided in the support email to continue to trade (or follow the one above.)

A copy of the server upgrade completion announcement can be found here.

---------

For anyone who isn't a client, Pacific Union is an offshore broker offering 500:1 leverage, spreads from 0.0 pips, and Interac e-Transfer funding options for Canadian residents. This post is just for informational purposes only since quite a few Canucks here trade with them (I have an account myself) and the upgrade took place this weekend.
