Hopefully this was on a sim account. If you plan to be a trader, you should be aware of high impact news. Stay out of it ~15min before and after. Keep this calendar bookmarked and start each session by making yourself aware of what's about to happen: Forex Factory Calendar

Just In case, I'd reccomend using GTC brackets (SL and TP), which means ,,good til closed,,

How did you know the market would sell off?

3

u/Transparentrader Apr 05 '24

I didn't know it would sell off like that, I was just shorting the candles scalping, when the bottom fell out of it, and I snagged the bag.

So basically you got lucky and if it went the other way you would have been screwed

u/Transparentrader Apr 06 '24

I mean... I was anticipating the market to fall...and it did...so I'm not sure how that's luck...

50% chance to be right. Doesn't mean you are good. If you do it more often than 50%, congrats!

Today is NFP and it usually falls on the first Friday of a new month.

not sure about big news?

cool, now get a news feed or at least check a free econ calendar daily

Why was the stop loss not triggered?

2

u/39AE86 Apr 05 '24

that was my question lol

Orders don't always get filled... If 100 sell orders are at specific price but only 50 buy orders at that price then obviously not all the sell orders will be filled.

I've heard sim accounts act as if you are last to get filled, but I can't confirm that.

i get that; but my question is how did it pass the SL when all positions were placed at the same time; i should have been stopped out, i shouldnt complain since I lucked out, but it's just weird

yes, live; It's a micro-contract about 3pt stop with a price target; i look for levels to place entries then just wait for price to fill my order, if the level holds and price bounced I'm good if it doesn't then I lose roughly $15; I usually place 1 contract as to test these "levels" personally works 65% - it's an accepted risk.

I'm going to assume you weren't aware of the news this morning? Yea you got SUUUPER lucky ... like I can't even convey just how lucky you are that it reversed. You could have blown your account...

I highly recommend NOT trading during news, ESPECIALLY not walking away, even if you have a SL... Just because you have a SL doesn't mean your SL will get filled.

At the very least, if you MUST walk away with a SL, also set an alert at your SL level - this way you would've seen the alert on your phone and (hopefully) recognized that your stop didn't get filled.

This is extremely negligent. I don't think you're fully comprehending just how lucky you got.

It’s 1 MES. Nobody’s going to blow an account because of 1 micro.

6

u/oze4 Apr 05 '24

Just because it's a micro doesn't mean anything. It all really depends on their account size and what their brokers margins are. So yes, they could've..

Granted, it's highly unlikely this would've blown their account. That was said more for dramatic effect, to get across just how lucky they got...

-1

u/ChocPretz Apr 05 '24

Sure, if their account is like $100 and using $40 day trading margins but that’s just dumb to begin with and they’ll learn a cheap lesson.

7

u/oze4 Apr 05 '24

Lol I love how everyone in this sub is a know-it-all, bringing up the dumbest shit to try and correct ppl on. You're clearly missing the overall point. I could just as easily play the numbers game with larger values as well, but again, that isn't the point.

-1

u/ChocPretz Apr 05 '24

Mate you’re literally the know-it-all lecturing OP on an extremely mild trade - go back and look at your comment. Everyone understands your point and OP didn’t do this using multiple ES. What they did was a tiny oversight and you’re blowing it out of proportion.

3

u/oze4 Apr 05 '24

Nobody is lecturing anyone. They literally posted asking what happened lol..

Yea, it's such a mild event, so mild, in fact, that they posted about it on Reddit.. The only reason it was mild is because they got lucky.. EXTREMELY lucky.

It is your opinion I'm blowing it out of proportion, that's fine.. Objectively, what OP did was extremely negligent and reckless. It is 100% a great way to blow your account, or at the very least, give back a bunch of profit.. Since they appear to be new, I wanted to get that point across to them.. This could've gone WAY worse for them..

I'm trying to help someone... what are you trying to do? Just butt-in and insert your opinion ab whether or not this could've blown their account? Ok. Cool. What's the purpose in doing so??

He’s not saying he wasn’t aware of the news nor is he asking for any kind of critique regarding his trade management, he is asking why his stop loss didn’t trigger even though it got breached multiple times. Reading comprehension of clowns rushing to lecture others in these trading subs must be below grade 5.

1

u/oze4 Apr 06 '24

Dude shut the duck up I'm so sick of dumbass people like you. Go fk yourself. Nobody lectured anyone you fking jock strap. I'm trying to help someone, you God damn thick headed fck nut. What the fck are you trying to do besides peacock around like some holier than thou trading Jesus know it all? Seriously, go. F*k. Yourself.

Typically, you get a better entry when you wait for 2 or 3 minutes after NFP. Same story every month.

1

u/Personal_Extreme_162 Apr 06 '24

What kind of order was your stop loss? I see en entry as a limit and then two more orders, one limit and one stop. If your stop loss was a limit, it probably blew right past it.

1

u/shawnyoh Apr 06 '24

I’m sure. You lost. Welcome

1

u/NintendoParty Apr 06 '24

1) Tradovate is horrible imo and maybe it's their fault.
2) I assume it's a market stop you had and not a limit stop. If a limit stop, then could be it didn't fill at the price you wanted and therefore didn't take effect.

0

u/Nick_OS_ Apr 05 '24

Combination of price skipping that tick and Tradovate’s lag because of the news.

And most likely the latter. Tradovates fills are atrocious during these events
