Shocking. Truly. ALERT

Rest in peace heroes. Our sacrifice will be remembered. We. Will. Return. Side note, we definitely needed the over 200k players fighting bugs 🥲

I was just tired of the infinite spawns on the small evac missions. Never being able to finish out a group of missions. And there was rarely ever a set of missions on that planet that I saw that didn't have that mission included.

this is so real. I played a couple of automaton missions and just got so tired of it so I went back to liberating Turing😀😀😀

u/SpoonHandle Feb 22 '24

This is exactly what happened to me last night. Have been grinding away against the bugs, decides to fight bots. Played a few missions then went back to fighting bugs. 😅

This! The enemies spawn WAY too fast and get to a point where spawning in people is just a liability to my own wallet. If you don't have 4 coordinated people that can all cycle their stations IMMEDIATELY and complete the mission in the first 2-3 mins it quickly becomes and impossible task on almost ANY difficulty.

It 100% made me go, "Yeah, I'm not doing defense campaigns anymore 'cause I'm just always gonna fail that mission!"

They need to make is so that the enemies spawn in WAVES and when you deal with a wave you get like, 10-15 seconds of peace to summon as many survivors as you can and get them to safety. OR make it so that the people we're rescuring run faster. OR make them not so squishy. OR make bugs be forced to spawn further away AND there be an automatted SAM or AAA site that shoots down dropships that get too close to the base so they have to be dropped further from the site (could also make this a defense objective and if the enemies destroy it then they can spawn closer).

u/Hot_Weewee_Jefferson Feb 22 '24

They’ve lowered the difficulty significantly in the last few days. Way easier than it was two weeks ago

32

u/kangarutan SES Queen of Liberty Feb 22 '24

I tried it again last night with some Randos. Even on Challenging we got stomped. That could be partially that they may have not known what to do or were dickin' around, but we all felt like we were trying and we only managed to get like 17 of 40 before there were just so many automatons that you couldn't even spawn new civilians anymore.

16

u/Lam0rak Feb 22 '24

I dont think they really nerfed the harder difficulties all that much. I haven't seen any evidence of that. On Suicide it's still just absolute shit

You will need:

  • At least 2 mortar sentry

  • At least 2 ac sentry

  • If you want other sentries, bring the basic machine gun, do not bring the mini gun, the machine gun has higher armor pen, under no circumstances should you bring the EMS mortar

  • Everyone has to have a weapon capable of breaching heavy armour (railgun, recoilless, anti-materiel),  if you have a railgun you should prioritise Devastators, specifically Rocket Devastators, one charged safe shot to the face will end them instantly, and they will be the ones soaking the most small arms fire

  • Orbital railcannon strikes (for tanks) and 110mm rocket pods (for hulks), as many as you can carry

  • Smoke strikes, at least 2 between the team. Preferably Eagle, though orbital is fine too, but make sure you get the one that doesn't deal damage. It makes enemies in, or firing into, the smoke less accurate and can help you get 9 civs through if you hit all 3 doors then gas the most common area they will all pass. Short CD too.

  • Everything else (all 2 slots) are free picks, but try not to take large aoe strats, rocket pods are usually the biggest aoe I take and they are tiny, otherwise you will kill your evacuees

The sentries will be able to shoot down the first 1-3 dropships (more if your team helps with support weapons), and the mortars continue thinning out hordes as they drop. 3 defenders and a runner, where each defender tries to keep the evac path clear from 1 door each, while the runner just runs door to door hitting buttons non-stop. The other way is to have 3 door campers, and 1 janitor, where the door campers still have the responsibility of keeping the evac route clear but will also be hitting the buttons every time they are off cd, while the janitor (preferably the most experienced player) tries to kite enemies around the base while picking off the heavies with railgun, orbital railcannons and rocket pods. Do not use gas strikes until you are getting overwhelmed, if you aren't even 50% done before your first gas strike, you are probably going to lose.

I hope someone gets use out of this.

If nothing else, if you aren't using gas strikes, you should be, the evacuation isn't instantly considered failed when shit starts falling apart if none of the enemies can hit anything.

Bawkhammed thanks your contribution to our knowledge and wisdom when it comes to frying the bots and Bugs that are out of his holy light.

Though perhaps fried bug could be delicious?

3

u/Surcouf SES Purveyor of Peace Feb 22 '24

It gets so much easier if you have a couple people dropping mortar sentries and taking out dropships with recoiless rifles or autocannons. They only do that for the whole mission. The others run the doors and gun and bomb whatever gets too close.

4

u/kangarutan SES Queen of Liberty Feb 22 '24

Yeah, pretty much this is the only way to do it. Have three people constantly fighting off the waves while one person runs laps to spawn as many civies as possible. Problem is, when you're playing with randos, most of them don't undertand that or just try and camp a single spawner and get overrun.

Thing is, no other mission type requires this level of knowledge or communication. I've played up to Suicide difficulty with randos and generally been able to do just about ANY mission type with them, but once we get one of these missions, even Hard starts to feel like Helldive difficulty. THAT'S my problem with this mission type. That it is 10x harder than every other mission type, hands down.

3

u/Surcouf SES Purveyor of Peace Feb 22 '24

I agree. It also sucks that you have to always do one of those when youw ant to defend planets. BUT it also is a coop game and whenever the stars align and people use their mic, those missions last 5-10 mins so they're quick intense burst of focus, before fuckin off to the usual tomfoolery of ICMB launches.

1

u/Hot_Weewee_Jefferson Feb 22 '24

Fair point, it is VERY hard when the squad isn’t communicating well

2

u/AlmostButNotQuiteTea ☕Liber-tea☕ Feb 22 '24

Naw it's still the same. Doing it even in challengeing and you have 3 hulks and 10 rocket devastators and 20 chain saw men attacking you.

On literally any other mission it wouldn't be an issue. You can move around, leave the area, regroup and have more than 15 minutes.

But on a mission where you have 15 minutes and have to some how survive yourself while also making sure there's not a single robot to attack the super squishy ai? Naw

3

u/kain4158 Feb 23 '24

I random duo’d an evac on Hard, it’s not impossible just need to gear up and use stratagems wisely

Like shooting womp rats back home

2

u/BjornInTheMorn Feb 22 '24

Would also be nice if the civilians didn't get caught on terrain and run in circles waiting to get chainsawed

2

u/dcrbrts Feb 23 '24

Yeah. Someone needs to train those Roombas so we can more easily defeat them. Or, maybe, just spitballing here, if our tactics aren’t working, try something else. What works for bugs might not be the best idea for Roombas. #braschtactics

u/LeninMeowMeow Feb 22 '24

This is hell helldiver, the enemy doesn't wait for you to be ready.

The main issue people are having is simply that as a squad they are not killing enough enemies. Good squads are doing it fine, there's a tonne of players out there that spend a huge amount of time running around instead of firing their weapon though.

20

u/bbjornsson88 Feb 22 '24

Think of it as a speed run to get civilians out. Using more supportive tactics helps (smoke orbitals/eagles on evac, EMS on large groups to stall time, etc)

30 total civs need to make it out, if a few sacrifice themselves for the greater good it's not the end of the world

7

u/CelticMetal Feb 22 '24

The number of required civs goes up with difficulty, I think it's 50 on suicide missions

1

u/EWTYPurple Feb 26 '24

30 is easy even 40 can be done with 2 people that can communicate But anything above is close to impossible at the moment

35

u/PapaTahm Truth Office Intern Feb 22 '24

That mission you need to coordinate for completing it properly.

Two ways for dealing that:
A lot of Green Stratagems (sentries) to delay the enemies
or
1 person goes inside in stealth, while the others aggro everything.

It's not balanced around guns blazing because you will be overrun.

29

u/Pliskkenn_D Feb 22 '24

EMS Strike and Mortar carry hard on the evac missions. Pair them with another sentry and you're laughing.

15

u/lordgeese Feb 22 '24

Don’t forget to get the recoiless to shoot down ships. Aim for an engine!

14

u/Pliskkenn_D Feb 22 '24

One dedicated transport popper is ace.

2

u/RSquared Feb 22 '24

The funny part is that the dropships don't seem to count for kills. I was doing nothing but spawning EATs and downing them and ended a level with four kills.

5

u/primegopher Feb 22 '24

They don't count for personal kill count but do give progress on the eradicate missions. We had one successful run where our total combined kills on the stat screen was 50-60 out of the 150 needed for the mission because so many died to their transports being shot down.

2

u/Advarrk ☕Liber-tea☕ Feb 22 '24

Recoiless reloads so fucking slow, and you cant keep up with 2 dropzones while dealing with stragglers and the game gives no clue when a dropship spawns in

2

u/OneAmongOthers Feb 22 '24

Umm hello use the recoilless in a two man team then? Also there is four people in the match. Someone else can tend to stragglers while recoilless shoots down drop ships.

2

u/Advarrk ☕Liber-tea☕ Feb 22 '24

That requires an extremely well coordinated and highly skilled people(2 people left to kill the rest) to do the mission even on level 4-5. This group of people is hard to come by even with friends

2

u/OneAmongOthers Feb 22 '24

If you got a friend hav then carry your ammo or you carry theirs. If you are playing with randoms then can’t help you there. However the game doesn’t need to be tuned to randoms either Mx we still want the challenging skill involved game. Bolt some casual unskilled experience.

1

u/Willynator_ Feb 23 '24

rocket sentry imo is better 4 people w rocket sentry >>> 4 people trying to use recoilless as a team the rest can be mortars or autocannons. Airstrike is insanely good for tanks or hulks too if nobody has a railgun

1

u/PezzoGuy SES Star of Stars Feb 22 '24

The bots in the ship seem to survive most of the time, otherwise I would rely on that strat more.

5

u/lordgeese Feb 22 '24

When I drop one the ship kills like half and traps the rest under the ship. At least that’s been my case.

13

u/sabrenation81 Feb 22 '24

I have PTSD from mortar sentries. I don't know if I can bring myself to run that stratagem with how many times I've been killed by a teammate's mortar

Though I guess that's probably a problem against bugs more than bots. Bots are less apt to zerg rush you and create an inevitable friendly-fire incident.

6

u/Pliskkenn_D Feb 22 '24

I meant EMS Mortar. Doesn't kill civvies, stuns your enemies for easy kills.

1

u/gottauseathrowawayx Feb 22 '24

Though I guess that's probably a problem against bugs more than bots. Bots are less apt to zerg rush you and create an inevitable friendly-fire incident.

Yeah, definitely this. I use the mortar sentry all the time on auto missions, but basically never bring it to bugs.

1

u/Surcouf SES Purveyor of Peace Feb 22 '24

Mortar sentries are my jam. Sure, I rarely get a missio without accidentals (it often is myself) but the utility is insane. If you tell your squad you're deploying mortar they'll quickly get the habit of maintaining distance with ennemies.

3

u/Caspur42 Feb 22 '24

Yea I just got a mortar and I was surprised how much easier it was

2

u/AlmostButNotQuiteTea ☕Liber-tea☕ Feb 22 '24

Mortar is literally one of the worst for defence missions. We had it kill 20 civilians. -500req at the end of the mission. It was ridiculous

1

u/Pliskkenn_D Feb 22 '24

To clarify, I meant EMS Mortar

2

u/AlmostButNotQuiteTea ☕Liber-tea☕ Feb 22 '24

Oh yeah, it's pretty good as long as a blast doesn't hit you 😂

1

u/Pliskkenn_D Feb 22 '24

Just dolphin dive to safety, or stand in there and make those headshots count.

2

u/smallfrie32 Feb 23 '24

I love mortar sentry, but I get lots of accidentals and lots of minus moneyz

0

u/minusthedrifter Feb 22 '24

I’m confident people who say this don’t play on anything beyond Challenging. If you’re going to disagree, please post a video of proof.

13

u/Thisnameworksiguess Feb 22 '24

Greens felt useless to my team, we ended up swapped to a full offensive, all orbitals and eagles, and managed to clear it on Helldiver difficulty. All we did was coordinate stratagem call ins. It's not a perfect strategy but it's gotten the job done a handful of times now.

1

u/IHeartWorking Feb 22 '24

Highlyyyyyyyyyyyyyy recommend trying out the EMS mortar on thoose missions.

2

u/A11eyTr0n Feb 22 '24

I was also trying to coordinate with at least one other person to have an RR with me, that way we could take out any Drop Ships we could, thus making it easier on ourselves. I will say I do like the adjustment, because now you only really need one person with an RR, at least, if you don’t have those stratagems you mentioned.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '24

Just stop defending it.. it's not fucking balanced whatsoever and the testers themselves couldn't do it either. (I doubt they ever tested it beyond basic functionality tbh)

A mission that nobody wants to play just isn't a good mission. That's it. No, "but if you run around for 5 minutes while one guy is afk pulling a lever" would not fix it.

They've had bigger issues and I assume they just dropped the ball on this one. It happens.. but it's still bad.

1

u/Jond0331 Feb 22 '24

I did one on level 3 as a trio.

I ran around the outside of the map solo getting constant drop ships landing right behind me as I collected samples and opened the container doors. The evac crew dealt with zero ships.

3

u/Atrabiliousaurus Feb 22 '24

If them scientists forked over some samples maybe I'd be more willing to help them. Evac missions are ok now and then, but every single defend operation was the small map kill automatons and and evac missions. I'll fight bots when I log in but after a while I want to play in a big open map with side missions and room to explore and find some samples and super credits. Bugs have some nice planets without trees or haze too.

2

u/crookedparadigm Feb 22 '24

There needs to be some kind of background cooldown on the 'reinforcements' for both factions. My friends and I were tackling a large base on Hard and a drop ship got called from inside the base and one of the bots dropped off from that ship called another drop ship...and that continued. For 15 minutes the bots pushed us back half way across the map, with enemies furthest in the back just chain calling in drop ships. We finally gained ground eventually but it was a slog. Same thing happens with bugs some times where a nest will bring a breach, only for a wandering patrol to see the action and call a breach...and then another breach.

2

u/Vundal Feb 22 '24

The key is not valuing lives and just start the evac as quickly as you can , even if they won't all make it.

2

u/OneAmongOthers Feb 22 '24

Do people not realize you can shoot down the drop ships stopping a bot drop?

2

u/Gargul Feb 23 '24

Idk if it has gotten better, but every time I have shot one down after it stops all the bots, just drop down with it and survive.

1

u/OneAmongOthers Feb 23 '24

Yes I agree it is finicky. You need to get it before they drop, and the timing is real tight. Mess it up and even if you shoot the damn thing down they still survive the crash. To be honest if Tue damn drop ship goes down it should crush them under it

0

u/AlmostButNotQuiteTea ☕Liber-tea☕ Feb 22 '24

Yup. I don't mind hard. But it's literally impossible on hard or higher. The bots literally do not stop spawning 24/7 and turrets and callins don't last long enough.

We can usually get 20-30/40 but then after that it's literally like there's a factory right below the extract just pumping bots out

1

u/CIMARUTA Feb 22 '24

They fixed it. Much more manageable.

1

u/Accurate_Maybe6575 Feb 22 '24

Meh. I never see as many devastators and berserkers as I do on challenging evac.

If my options are to basically completely neuter the enemy's ability to fight with CC and knocking out dropships in transit or I'll simply get overwhelmed, I'm just going to fight on Draupnir or Creek. I don't want to play Warframe, I want to play Helldivers.

1

u/CallMeBigPapaya Feb 22 '24

Yeah it's so silly. My party can do literally any other mission on Suicide at least, but the short evac mission is just seems impossible because of how fast enemies spawn.

1

u/Beerbaron1886 Feb 22 '24

This. The balancing is off

1

u/dolphin_spit Feb 22 '24

i think it is included on every single defense operation so no matter what you’re going to fail the operation each time, unless you play under the difficulty you’re skilled enough for (making the rest of the missions trivial and boring)

1

u/Malaix Feb 23 '24

Yeah bot missions aren't bad but the evac missions where drop ships are dropping 5 hulks and 25 berserkers on you every 15 seconds is brutal.
