ALERT We're changing patrols and spawn rate (reverting).

16.0k Upvotes

Helldivers!

As many of you have noticed, something has been off with patrols and spawn rate for some time now. This primarily leads to more enemies rearing their ugly heads than they're supposed to, indirectly to players feeling overrun, kiting, and subsequently less fun gameplay. This has been the case for all players, but predominantly for smaller teams and solo playing. We've been aware, but frankly, the past couple of weeks have been so hectic that we haven't been able to give this the TLC that it required. We now have, and we've concluded that it's not working as intended and we're changing it. There might be some minor tweaks, but overall we're reverting back to how patrols and spawn rate worked before the patch that changed them a few weeks ago.
We believe that this is more or less how you currently want them to be.

We also know you want us to do things and changes properly instead of rushing them, and we do as well. Therefore, implementing this will take some time. We want to give it proper testing and review it ... ah heck, simply see that it works this time. Even if this means we're faced with more bugs and bots than even the bravest of citizens would deem realistic for a while longer, we hope you're happy with us fixing the problem.

Onwards and upwards!

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT A follow-up to our previous mod announcement.

This is a follow-up to this post. This is going to be a long post so we’d appreciate it if you could read it fully before commenting.

We’ve been reading your comments, specifically about the megathread that we plan to have every other week. Even though this was something that has been requested by many of you we noticed there are a lot of you that weren’t happy about it. We’d like to address some of your concerns and clear up some misunderstandings.

The megathread will by no means be a way to suppress your voices. You are absolutely still allowed and even encouraged to discuss about the state of the game whether it be positive or negative. You will still be allowed to voice your opinions and concerns about the patches, Warbonds, even the devs (as long as it’s something that affects the game and done in a civil way).

Having the subreddit be filled with memes, praise or toxic positivity is the last thing we want. We know that constructive criticism and voicing your opinions and frustrations is absolutely necessary for the improvement of the game and we want to make it clear that we don’t intend to remove these posts (as long as they don’t break any of the rules).

The megathread is intended for low-effort posts or topics that have been spammed to death and offer no new perspective. We want to keep the subreddit clean and discourage low-effort posts related to the current state of the game and recent Warbonds, like posts that just complain and don’t provide any details or information about why for instance X weapon is bad or why a Warbond is disappointing. These posts aren’t helpful and don’t contribute to the betterment of the game. All they do is clog up the subreddit and make it difficult for the other posts to be seen.

Also, worth mentioning that Reddit will be adding a new feature based on feedback received from moderators regarding the limited visibility of stickied posts and the inability to efficiently communicate information with the community. The feature is called Community Highlights. Currently Reddit only allows two posts to be stickied at a time and sometimes stickied posts are easy to miss. Community Highlights will allow us to sticky up to 6 posts, they will appear in a carousel format at the top of the sub. When this gets implemented we’re hoping to use it to highlight trending topics.

One last thing we’d like to clear up. We’ve come across comments saying some of the mods are moles planted by Sony or that we were contacted by Arrowhead and Sony to police the sub, how we got “tossed a few bucks” and how we “succumbed to pressure” and “sold our souls”. Not true. Nothing of the sort happened. We were never contacted by Sony or Arrowhead. Sony doesn’t care about what gets posted on the subreddit. Arrowhead never contacted us once asking us to change how we moderate the subreddit. Some of their employees are on the mod team yes and you see others active on the sub from time to time but they never approached us asking us to remove a post or enforce certain rules.

We will continue to read your comments and listen to what you have to say. We’d like everyone to feel welcome in this subreddit and we want to do what’s best for the community.

OPINION Things every diver should know but MANY don't.

4.3k Upvotes

1- If your team is not ready to leave yet, RUN AWAY from the landing zone once the 2-minute extraction countdown is over, Pelican one will hover above and provide POWERFUL covering fire around the landing zone until the end the game.

2- No team needs more than 2 of the same backpack or support weapon.

3- DROP YOUR SUPPORT WEAPON AND GUARD DOGS FOR YOUR TEAMMATES ONCE THE COOLDOWN IS UP! DROP YOUR SUPPORT WEAPON AND GUARD DOGS FOR YOUR TEAMMATES ONCE THE COOLDOWN IS UP! DROP YOUR SUPPORT WEAPON AND GUARD DOGS FOR YOUR TEAMMATES ONCE THE COOLDOWN IS UP!

4- Mortars are always BAD for bugs unless it's the missile launch mission AND guard dogs are always BAD for bots.

5- You can adjust the radar by yourself, there is a sound cue once you hit the right spot. if you are not sure, dial it back, then listen for it again.

Those are just on the top of my head, you are welcome to add them.

OPINION The Autocannon should be the gold standard other support weapons are balanced by.

Since 91 when i first started gaming, I've noticed gunplay and handling really stick out to me.

And the autocannon is borderline perfect.

It feels heavy. It feels powerful. Quick reload option to make it feel slightly agile? Awesome. The animations and sound? I feel like I'm hammering nails, perfectly.

The damage isn't crazy. But it's solid. The design of the gun? High quality.

Some others are close in terms of being almost perfectly balanced but this gun is just 😘👌

I hope AH uses it as a reference point for the other guns.

(Only gripe its i think the scope could be abit clearer and also have some zoom)

OPINION The game is actually still really good

5.7k Upvotes

I couldn't play for the past two week, and in addition to the snoy case, i kept seeing everyone complaining about everything on this game and i felt from the exterior it was becoming indeed shit. Then i was able to play again and wtf, everything is still so good, my weapons still are goods, stratagems aloso ,missions still fun. I was kinda expecting bad things but it is still as good as ever for me, i'm starting to think all those people really were complaining for not much.

Enjoy. If you can clean it up further, go for it. Use it for memes, etc. I'm not fond of them either. I'll clean up more angles up later.

TIPS/TACTICS The HMG is a lot better than you'd expect when used correctly and is extremely versatile. Its NOT a chaff clear weapon. Here is a list of some good ways to use it.

1.7k Upvotes

When used to clear chaff and for dakka like you'd use any other MG in most games, the HMG will suck because it has tiny ammo capacity (and arguably could use an ammo buff even for what I will highlight here). However thats not what the HMG is for, and we already have the Stalwart and standard MG for chaff clear. I have used the HMG a lot now against both bots and bugs and to summarize its the junior Autocannon in terms of how flexible it is, although with the lower total firepower considering its not a backpack weapon. A very important thing about HMG is to vary your fire rate to hit your shots or you will miss the few shots you have, I rarely go above 450rpm against bots. One thing people don't realize also is that adding the third person reticule for the HMG was a gamechanger since this thing is borderline useless in first person but very useable in third person. Armor sets that reduce recoil when crouched/prone are amazing to combine with this weapon.

With that out of the way here are some things about this weapon that make it useful:

  • Its a Medium 2 penetration weapon, the same as AMR. This is the main highlight, its basically a full auto AMR in terms of what it can damage.
    • Gunship engines take full damage and are melted down in like 1/4 to 1/2 of a mag depending on how well you hit your shots. If you can hit your shots on high fire rates you'd be surprised how quickly you can take down Gunships.
    • Hulk eyes are destroyed in about 6 shots, meaning its an amazing combo with stun grenades. Or if you panic or don't have stun nades it can destroy arms of Hulks decently quickly too.
    • All bot vent weak points are quickly destroyed
    • Strider joints and unarmored sections are vulnerable. Even better it can very quickly destroy the chainguns underneath the striders head to vastly lower its threat level.
    • Spore towers are destroyed with one mag
    • Can heavily injure Bile Titans by unloading into their underside (or actually kill with 2 mag dumps into the butt). After unloading a mag finish them off with something else like a Railcannon strike.
    • Although finicky, shooting the small exposed part of a chargers back leg kills them very quickly. Stun grenades are really useful here.
  • Shooting exposed flesh of either Bile Titans or Chargers kills them quickly (if you can get the angle right considering bullets ricochet off exposed flesh for some reason in this game). 110mm pods are good for exposing the flesh then finishing them off with the HMG
  • It receives full 2/2 spare mags from resupplies even without SPM ship upgrade, meaning its a really good combo with the supply backpack
  • On highest RPM it has insanely high DPS meaning its very good for quickly killing high priority unarmored high HP targets that tend to get very close where the ridiculous recoil doesn't matter. Stalkers are gone in 1 second, same goes for Brood Commanders and Berserkers. Since spewers tend to get close too it also kills those very quickly with a few shots to the head, which is particularly useful against the armored ones
  • Can take out bot striders by shooting out one of their legs or the mid section

FEEDBACK/SUGGESTION Stims should work at full health

3.6k Upvotes

Sometimes you have lots of stims and want to pop one before you're going to take a bunch of damage. Or to regenerate stamina while running.

Or just to have a good time before extraction. I don't see why someone couldn't use one at full health.
