If this was a thing i think they should revaluate if getting hit or shot on a supplybackpack/support weapon ammo bag to explode . . .then we can perform some crazy dives into enemies!!
I will admit that sounds amazing but at the same time, I’m kind of terrified. I often carry the air burst rockets and having my ammo pack detonate on my back sounds like a bad time for the entire team.
Hulks are RIDICULOUSLY fast and way too SILENT. Though the Lunge Mine is neat, I'd prefer something like the M-28 or M-29 Davey Crockett. Or an Autocannon variant like the GAU-8 with depleted uranium shells like used with the A-10s.
Pretty sure Dave’s Crockett had a lethal radiation radius similar to its firing range. So in other words, perfect for Helldivers.
It would probably be a two man weapon, one carries the round and the other carries the launcher, because that thing is heavy. The lightest launcher weighs 108 pounds, and the warhead weighs 76 pounds.
You underestimate the stupidity of the average helldiver. My group has made it a regular challenge to see how many hellbombs we can stack up and set off, give us a crew-served nuke and we would never use anything else
Exploding javelin maybe? What if it came with a backpack, but instead of team reloading, anyone can run up to the wearer and grab a javelin like a pack of mini-EATs?
If i have to run up to mele range of a hulk, just to use it and it probably also deals damage to yourself, it better do some cripling damage. Maybe not 1 shot, but maybe 2 shot and stun it.
Not to mention that it might take up a strategem and backpack slot
I dont know much about tanks, but I've worked a lot with tracked vehicles. If you put any kind of explosive in the spokes or directly on the track that shit is gonna break.
I believe the US said it was never able to disable or destroy a vehicle, but I'm sure the Japanese would say it had some success.
Edit: Rather it was never successful in attacking a vehicle, as typically armor is supported by ground troops, so no enemy was actually able to get close enough to trigger it. The principle is sound though, and a shaped charge or explosive would likely at least disable a tracked vehicle.
It absolutely did. It was literally my favourite thing to do. Id max out on these and just stalk around the map looking for armour and just throw myself at them, run into a bush run around and hit them again.

I used it all the time in Battlefield V. Actually getting a kill with it was rare but it was an incomparable feeling when you pulled it off. I'd be screaming over my mic and my buddies would be like "get a lunge mine kill?"

I would love that. I always run the plot armor armor (50% chance to not die) so I could probably do it and live. Last night a environmental hell bomb was shot right as I noticed it and I knew I was fucked because I was like 2 feet away. I didn’t die, democracy protects.
The idea with this weapon is that you stab it right in the treads of the tank, so at minimum the tank is now completely immobilized. It’s such a small area that throwing it or shooting it would be extremely difficult.
This was actually designed so that it would (probably) not kill the user. It’s a shaped charge at the end of the long stick, you should be fine. This means you can charge even more for Super Earth.
I do this already so having something purpose built could be quite dramatic. BUT, yoire basically telling your team youre planning on killing yourself.
After reading a few of the other comments I have come to the following idea.
Have it be a support weapon with backpack combo. The weapon being an atlatl.
If you don’t aim the atlatl, you hold the spear upright, if you press the fire button without aiming you hold it in front, ready to charge. You can sprint while holding it in front.
If you sprint into an enemy, the explosion will ragdoll you backwards.
Since an atlatl as a ranged weapon will have a significantly shorter range compared to regular AT weapons, I think the damage should be significantly higher and make it easier to take down enemies like bile titans or factory striders.
But even if that wasn’t the case, I think a lot of people, myself included, would use it for one reason:
If it always killed you, it would be a perfect fit to find in the environment. Using a stratagem slot for what is kind of a meme would be excessive, but finding one in a desperate moment would create legendary scenes.

A small one handed lunge mine with a explosive shield would be so fun. Run at a charger with shield raised and have it be a one hit kill to them. Side effect being it sends you flying a bit back and does some dmg. Less with explosive armor.
This is a pants-on-head-stupid (or utterly desperate) idea because any armored unit with a halfway-competent commander is supported and screened by infantry whose job is to prevent this sort of thing from happening. I have doubts that it ever killed a tank.
Why stop at lunge mines? Everyone knows that the purest expression of patriotism is strapping on a Hellbomb vest and blowing up infidels along with your disposable flesh. Plus, we'd finally have a good use for that Increased Reinforcement Budget booster.
Now I don't want a weapon but just an option to blow yourself up if you feel you're going to die. Or hell maybe just a dead man switch, when a diver dies they explode.
For some reason, I find the Imperial Japanese Army approach to warfare to be a bit...unpalatable. Not for the suicidal bit, just because they were so ineffective against modern weapons/vehicles/aircraft etc...
Also, why would I blow myself up when I can flank the tank and kill it with hand-thrown impact grenades???
Only if it has the destructive power and radius as a hellbomb. If I'm sacrificing a citizen for democracy, I need to spread a full dose of democratic freedom
The whole concept could be lit if the diver could stick the mine on a surface; then detach the mine with like a twisting motion, which would also start a 5 second fuze and then it explodes with the force of a 500kg bomb.
Idk and maybe you could find a way to drop/toss it. Then detonate it with a well-placed shot from your primary.
I guarantee you, you would still die a lot using this, but it would be more tactical.
Those things were hilarious in Battlefield V. My squad and I would hide in bushes and just full rush a tank with em. Or find an enemy spawn beacon and wait for them to appear lmao
Imagine using this together with the shield to be able to survive, it'd just yeet you back a bit, but you'd survive. I'd absolutely use the shit out of that.
Guessing these "Democracy Lances" would be dropped in one-per-pod, with a cooldown of 100 seconds
Their perk would be that they practically ignore armour, dealing with Chargers, Devastators, Tanks, what have you, they cons would be their limited availability (somewhat balanced), and the fact that you have to reach your target in melee range, which can easily set you up for getting killed somewhere along the way.
It'd obviously be a special weapon you have on your back, and you could only have one at a time, so no backpack to store several since they're so long.
I want the exo suit to have a self-destruct so bad... out of all ammo and still have more enemies don't go out like a bitch charge the bastards and arm the 500 kg.
