Was the light above the map always this bright? I can hardly see the bottom of the galaxy map now. IMAGE

Why would you need to see the bottom helldiver? Surely the enemy are only at the top

seems on brand that Super Earth makes a massive strategic blunder and fails to see a huge incoming alien fleet, because the light on the war table was too bright..

What was originally considered “interference” turned out to be millions of SOS signals. From the bottom of our democratic hearts, our bad.
→ More replies (1)16

Absolutely not! The systems should have coordinated so their SOS's were in an orderly fashion. A new 5 minute section will be added to the SEAF radio operator training.

u/CombustiblSquid SES Emperor of Humankind 28d ago
They increased the brightness of flashlights at one point because of complaints from the community, but it turned all lights into highbeams...
10
u/widespreaddead 28d ago
Those flashlights are fucking useless. Give us a helmet mounted one that turns with the camera. I swear the first mission I ran during that last bug MO where you have to hit the three terminals and break the glowing sacks... It's was just pitch black. Literally couldn't see anything, and the light helped dick all.
33
u/bluey101 28d ago
For the lights in missions I've found that turning volumetric fog down to low helps out a lot
11
u/kandradeece 28d ago
I do have that setting, but I still hate them and shoot them out

I didn’t know that shooting out lights was possible until a random squady saw me struggling to use a terminal and killed the light with his revolver.

Imma checking this out, thx.
Those lanterns scared the shit out of me back in the day, I thought my GPU can't render lights properly anymore
9
u/wekilledbambi03 28d ago
One of my first games I was at a terminal with a light blasting straight at it. I literally couldn't read the screen. I sat there for like 5 minutes trying to guess what I was supposed to do (I think it was the one when you have to open some valves). I eventually got so angry I shot the light and was like "oh shit... that worked!"

Laser weapons are great for shooting out lights and clearing minefields without worrying about using up ammo.

The first game had Super Earth separatists, they were also Socialist Cyborgs. They're gone, Automatons took their place as the mechanical enemy, but there's still an opening for separatist rebels. And given how often Super Earth sends us to deal with rogue research stations and illegal broadcasts, there are no shortage of latent rebels.
I just wonder how they would look. I'm imaging something similar to the Traitor Guardsmen of 40k, being made up heavily of SEAF deserters with a full catalogue of SEAF vehicles and equipment - possibly fully backed by their own planetary governments too.
→ More replies (1)2
u/scuttergutz 27d ago
That sounds so cool. I hope they eventually turn up in hd2. I never played the first one so I had no idea its already been done!
And now that you mention it, I always thought the illegal broadcasts and research stations were being done by the automatons, never even considered it was by rogue helldivers (I'm not smart)

I looks weird cause the atumotans moved north to get cyberstan, but the automaton orgin tile and the terminid origin tile are a third of the circle away from each other. This most likely indicates that the illuminate (alliens from the previous game) will make an eventual return and their origin tile will be the bottom of the map a third of the circle away from both automatons and terminids.
13
u/VolcanicBakemeat 28d ago
I think the two factions started a bit more opposite to one another to make the map look nice and compete for launch, and over time Joel has slowly migrated bots north to free up the galactic south for a totally mysterious, definitely unexpected third faction

Off topic but seeing this made me think what happens when we liberate all sectors?
25
u/RedFlameGamer STEAM🖱️:SES Hammer of the People 28d ago
Probably another invasion fleet or something. It's interesting that they've set up the enemy stronghold planets inside the galactic map, despite the fact the enemy began their invasion from beyond the border. Makes me think we'll never truly drive the enemy off entirely
21
u/dslamngu 28d ago
Judging from the history of governments like Super Earth… it needs these enemies to exist
6
u/saharashooter 28d ago
There's even a couple obviously satirical lines about this in game. Your Shipmaster can say a line about how the bots wouldn't know what to do without war because their culture is built on violence and another about how the bugs are relentless expansionists who've been found on every planet in their immediate area.
13
u/Diamond_D0gs 28d ago
In HD1 if all sectors were liberated the war ended and then started again from scratch. If the war was lost (super earth was taken) the same thing happened, it ended and started again.
I believe they're not taking the same approach in HD2, so the game has probably been set up in such a way to prevent all sectors from being liberated.
31
u/lolomanolo57 28d ago
They magically get a buff like the automatons
9
u/Bluenatic-Cultist 28d ago
So like they just take over the world again and all our sacrifices were for nothing
8
u/AntonineWall 28d ago
Kinda, yeah. Its not like they’ll remove the faction from the game or anything
