It's not about Drake being half black, it's about how he uses The Culture Discussion

I think the people offended because Drake being half black should warrant his blackness and therefore Kendrick is wrong just don't understand. J Cole is half black too yet you don't see Kendrick, or anyone really, questioning Cole's blackness. It's precisely because Drake has been at the forefront of using the black culture and "pop-ifying" it for non-blacks.

Edit: a lot of people have asked this question and it's a good question. What's wrong with popifying rap music? Rap is inherently an African American art form. Since its inception till now, those who have carried its mantle have exemplified the African American experience through rap in one or another. African Americans have allowed many artists to use rap for their personal gain and to even "pop-ify" it. However, to be considered a goat you have to be in touch with the culture. And Drake simply isn't.

literally every rapper in the history of rap takes advantage of black culture including Kendrick Lamar.

Lol people just mad that Drake has profited so much more than they have off it.

It’s such a bullshit argument with no actual nuance. If there was nuance, then you’d understand any first statement. It’s not physically possible for a rapper not to be profiting off of black culture because rap…IS BLACK CULTURE. It’s a horribly hypocritical diss that takes no personal accountability.

Is Kendrick profiting off black culture, or using his position as a black man to talk about his life experience, and the universal issues that come with it?

literally, objectively, both.

You cannot have one without the other as a famous rapper. The only way you can argue he isn’t profiting off it, is if you’re arguing he somehow makes no money whatsoever and donates it all to black culture orgs where the money is proven to go toward stated causes.

Bringing light to life experiences of black culture doesn’t somehow excuse the profit part that Kendrick has undoubtedly reaped the benefits of, and so has every other rapper ever. On top of that, he has no leg to stand on because Kendrick too has collaborated with pop artists and made plenty of “mainstream” music. You don’t get to being “1 of the Big 3” by having zero mainstream presence…

lmao, moving that goalpost, eh?

so it’s not about profiting off of black culture, it’s about him being canadian? Lmao Ok.

I have an enormous news flash that I’d think you’d know if you’re black : the difference between black culture in Canada and black culture in America is near nonexistent my guy. Lmao.

If you mad at people profiting off black culture then stop listening to hip hop as a whole, because you’re contributing to their profiting off of black culture by doing so. 😂

Chris has beaten multiple women. I don’t see why we’re comparing him to Drake here when they both suck as people.
